Shane Black In Talks To Direct ‘Iron Man 3′

There have been plenty of pats on the back to Favreau from the fan community since footage of Cowboys and Aliens has been surfacing, but one little fact has managed to slip through the cracks: what are the plans for Iron Man 3 now that he’s moved off of the franchise?

Well, THR seems to have a solid lead on an answer, as Lethal Weapon writer Shane Black has been having some meetings as of late with the suits at Marvel.

The writer/director has powwowed with Marvel execs about his take on the third installment in the blockbuster franchise. As of now he is being considered for the directing job, but the assumption is that if he gets the gig, he would also write a draft.

Insiders said that Black’s involvement is far from a sure thing, and that other filmmakers were being looked at.

Josh Hartnett Is A Samurai & Other Weird Stuff In The Trailer For ‘Bunraku’

Being a fan of film, you get tired of seeing the same Hollywood tricks and stories retold over and over. There are only so many Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller canned comedies that one can take before becoming jaded. Then a film like Bunraku comes along to shake everything up.

Said to be the stylistic cousin of Sin City, this Russian-made, Romanian-shot, American-cast film sounds about as crazy as the synopsis can write it.

In a world where firearms have been outlawed, and hand-to-hand combat and swordplay have made a comeback, two drifters; a cowboy (Josh Hartnett), and a sword-less samurai (Gackt) wander into a town ruled by warlord Nicola (Ron Perlman) and his chief henchman Killer No. 2 (Kevin McKidd). Both have a score to settle, and are aided by a bartender (Woody Harrelson) with ties to Nicola’s lover (Demi Moore).

It’s films like these, or 2009’s Shoot ‘Em Up that give independent filmmakers hope. If they have a compelling enough script, they can literally get anyone to star in their crazy film. Don’t believe us? Check out the trailer after the jump and judge for yourself.

No word on a release date just yet, but you can expect this film to pick up a considerable amount of momentum next month at South by SouthWest.

Get Your First Look at ‘Captain America and The Falcon’

As with other comics, Marvel has provided us with a first look at the upcoming book Captain America and The Falcon #1. This book reminds me of the previous pairing of these two heroes from when I was a kid. In fact, I’ll bet I still have that comic somewhere.

Anyway, turning to the near future instead, this new comic comes from creators Rob Williams and Rebekah A. Isaacs, with art by Greg Tocchini, and “kicks off a series of five one-shots celebrating the 70 years of the Sentinel of Liberty, Captain America’s erstwhile partner Sam Wilson, must confront his past to save a boy’s future.”

In the book, Captain America and Falcon “take on an evil far below the spires of Avengers Tower – the very streets Falcon fought to escape.” This one promises lots of fun and all the Cap adventure you can handle. Plus, some great nostalgia as well for those of us who remember.

Check out some preview pages for this new comic after the jump. Look for Captain America and The Falcon to hit store shelves in March.

‘X-Men: First Class’ Trailer Debuting Today on Facebook

Were you as upset as the rest of us when we sat through all of the commercials on Super Bowl Sunday and didn’t get a single glimpse at Fox’s upcoming X-Men: First Class? Well good news! If you have Facebook, then Fox is making it up to you!

Starting later today, 20th Century Fox is rewarding anyone who like their X-Men Movies fan page over at Facebook.com/XMenMovies by giving them the first exclusive look at X-Men: First Class. That’s right, all you have to do is like them. Sounds simple, right?

For those of you who aren’t caught up to speed on the film itself, here’s a tidbit.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events.  Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time.

Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon.  In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

X-Men: First Class is set to hit theaters on June 3rd.

In Marvel vs. Capcom 2, a new evil was created called Abyss. Now, one of the most powerful forces in the galaxy takes aim at earth and it is up to the Marvel and Capcom heroes and villains to take him down.

Take a peek below at Galactus in action. It is going to be very interesting to see what kind of tactics it is going to take down a being of near limitless power like Galactus. Make sure to stay tuned to the Flickcast for our review of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: The Fate of Two Worlds next week!

Nathan Fillion Voices Hal Jordan In ‘Green Lantern: Emerald Knights’

Despite staying busy as the star of ABC’s Castle, we’re learning that Nathan Fillion will also be starring as Hal Jordan in an animated tie-in to this summer’s live-action DC Comic adaptation, Green Lantern. Set to release June 7, 2011 from Warner Bros Animation, the animated flick will star some amazing voice talent including Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), Jason Isaacs (‘Harry Potter’), Kelly Hu (Hawaii Five-0, The Vampire Diaries), rocker/actor/spoken-word artist Henry Rollins and last-but-not-least, ex-wrestler “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.

TV Guide is serving up an exclusive first-look of Fillion (pictured above) as he takes to the microphone in his unmistakable ‘Green Lantern’ tee-shirt. Fillion spoke briefly with TV Guide about his fanboy glee over being chosen to voice an iconic comic character like The Green Lantern:

I was always reading the comic books, I was always a spectator,”Fillion told TV Guide. “Now I feel like I own a little piece of Green Lantern.

Warner Bros Animation is planning to release ‘Green Lantern: Emerald Knights’ a mere 10 days before the release of the feature film starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. With Fillion and Reynolds both alumni of ABC’s ‘Two Guys and a Girl,’ there seems to be nothing but respect between the two actors.

He’s a great guy, a gem, deserves all the success that he’s getting,” says Fillion, “so it’s neat to have a little piece and share it with someone you know.

As a huge fan of Nathan Fillion, I’m eagerly awaiting the June 7th release date of ‘Emerald Knights.’ And wow, summer 2011 is shaping up to be an amazing season for comic book-based flicks. With ‘Thor’ releasing in May, ‘Green Lantern’ in June, and ‘Captain America’ in July, it’s going to be an outstanding time to be a fanboy.

So what are you looking forward to this summer? Be sure to let us know in the comments section.
