First Images and Poster For ‘X-Men: First Class’ Revealed

We held off on releasing the group image of the cast from the upcoming X-Men: First Class last week, as we weren’t too sure of it’s authenticity. As it turns out, we were right. The image from last week, showing off everyone from January Jones as Emma Frost to James McAvoy as Professor Xavier, was a complete hoax by a fan. Which is good, considering that it looked pretty awful.

Now, probably in retaliation to last week’s bogus image, Fox has released three brand new images and a poster for the upcoming film, all totally legitimate.

In the images you can check out after the jump, we get a first look at both McAvoy as Professor X playing chess with Michael Fassbender’s Erik Lehnsherr aka Magneto. Also we’ve got a very 60’s looking January Jones and Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw and the very first image of the titular Class.

Check out all of these new images after the jump, along with the brand new poster, and expect to see the first trailer for the film soon, as its currently in it’s post-production phase.

The film is set to hit theaters on June 3rd.

Anne Hathaway Is Catwoman, Tom Hardy Confirmed as Bane in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

Somehow with all the news that comes out every day we missed this interesting bit of casting. Okay, the truth is we were a bit hungover after one of Managing Editor Matt Raub’s trivia parties last night and we just forgot to put this up. Sorry folks, you deserve better.

Anyway, what news am I talking about? Why it’s the news that Anne Hathaway has been confirmed as Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) in the upcoming Batman Threequel The Dark Knight Rises. Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. have announced that the Oscar-nominated actress is joining the film and according to the report they could not be happier about it.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story,” Nolan said in an official statement.

But wait, there’s more. Nolan also revealed that longtime cast member Tom Hardy will be playing the role of Bane: “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

So basically Nolan is both thrilled and delighted. That’s a good way to start a project as massive as this one undoubtedly is. I think I’m thrilled and delighted as well. Hardy is awesome and will make a great Bane. Anne Hathaway should do well as Catwoman too and should have no trouble sexing things up for the Caped Crusader.

What about you guys? Do you like these casting choices or who would you have preferred to see as Catwoman and Bane?

Fox Contending To Release The 23rd James Bond Film

We know it was good news for both Bond fans and fans of the spy genre in general when it was announced that MGM was going through with the 23rd James Bond film. Now it looks like things could be getting better, as 20th Century Fox is looking into distributing the film.

From THR:

The new MGM management team of Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum has been talking informally to Paramount, where Barber and Birnbaum have a long-standing relationship. But last Friday, they also listened to a pitch from top Fox executives, who argue that their studio would do the best job exploiting Bond, as well as other future MGM films. They also believe they could wring the most out of the MGM library.

Fox has had a longstanding deal to distribute MGM movies on DVD and its films overseas, though that pact is set to expire in September.

The main contenders look to be Paramount and Fox, but that doesn’t mean that Sony, the studio that released the last two Bond films to theaters, is out of the fight. We’ll find out soon enough where MGM decides to land.

Playboy Magazine Coming to Apple’s iPad In March

You can’t always believe what you read on Twitter. I know, shocking, right? However, when news comes directly from the verified account of none other than Playboy Magazine founder and publisher Hugh Hefner, we take notice.

So, what did Mr. Hefner have to say? Well, in a recent couple of messages the man himself revealed that his magazine which got millions of young men through adolescence would be coming soon to Apple’s iPad. And as if that wasn’t enough, according to Hef, the magazine will be completely uncensored. Nice.

This development is very convenient for those out there who like their tech and their naked women to be closely tied together. It’s also a good deal for Hefner who is able to get his magazine into the hands of potentially millions more subscribers.

No word yet on potential pricing or subscription models available but we can hope it will be in line with current print edition — or even cheaper.

Update: It seems Hef wasn’t talking about a new iPad App Playboy App as some had suggested. Instead, he was referring to a web based subscription service available on the iPad. That’s the version that will be uncensored. I guess you really can’t believe what you read on Twitter.

Akuma and Taskmaster Confirmed for ‘Marvel vs. Capcom 3’

February 15th can’t get here fast enough. We know we have our preorders locked down for Marvel vs. Capcom 3: The Fate of Two Worlds already but the announcements of more characters just further wets our appetites. Now confirmed to be a part of the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 family are the returning Akuma and the newcomer the Taskmaster.

Not surprising, Akuma makes his return to Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The Street Fighter legend has proven himself a formidable foe for Ken and Ryu in games past and it only makes sense that he’d be coming back after the series’ long hiatus. Check out some images and video below of Akuma’s return to HD glory.

A new wildcard thrown into the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 mix comes in the form of Taskmaster. Largely regarded as a joke until recently, Taskmaster has been given a new life at Marvel. After being handpicked by Norman Osborn to lead his version of the Initiative, Taskmaster went on to receive his own miniseries which has been building him as a character to the Marvel world.

Check out some great screens and videos of the two new characters after the jump.

Could This Be The Future Of Glasses-Free 3D?

Now that CES is behind us, we’re expecting to see tons of new inventions or ideas that didn’t make the cut at the world’s largest technology expo. Plenty of things didn’t make it on the show floor, and it’s almost unfortunate that this new doohickey falls in that category.

3D is one of the biggest leading movements in technology for the foreseeable future, and in that world, one of the big advancements is removing those big bulky glasses from the 3D equation all together.

That’s where Francois Vogel and Jonathan Post come in. They’ve got a brand new device they’re testing out that plays with eyelids much like 3D and RealD glasses do with the lenses.

Of course, there’s no way of knowing if these gadgets have a place in the world of consumer technology, but they definitely freak all of us out. Check out the demonstration after the jump.
