This week on The Flickcast Chris and Matt are ready with an all-new episode. Topics discussed on this one include the new Thor trailer, the Golden Globe Award nominations, Jon Favreau not doing Iron Man 3, the Video Game Awards, new movie trailers and who should direct Iron Man 3 not that Favreau has stepped down.

Also, the boys made some new picks this week so you’ll know what to watch, play or buy for the holidays. The picks include Matt’s choice of the video game Enslaved and Chris’ pick of the Christmas horror film Santa’s Slay, featuring the wrestler Goldgerg as evil Santa. Facebook for Android Updated, Now Features Push and Chat Notifications

Late yesterday, everyone’s favorite social media website Facebook announced an update for their Android version of the Facebook app. This update brings the application to version 1.5, for those of you who keep track of that sort of thing.

Some of the main features of this update include support for Facebook chat (In both background and foreground) as well as the much requested Push notifications. Unfortunately, Push notifications will only work on devices running Android 2.2 or higher.

The update also includes the requisite other “bug fixes” which are, let’s face it, nice to have. Sadly, still no photo tagging in this update. But I guess you can’t have everything. . . yet.

As usual, the update is available in the Android Market. If you do update, let us know your experiences, good or bad, in the comments. Now to start updating our Android phones here at the office.

Film Review: ‘Rabbit Hole’

Rabbit Hole is a gut churning look at the aftermath one couple is left with after losing their four-year old son.  Stark, raw, and devastating, the movie delivers a voyeuristic look into the life of Becca and Howie, who are struggling day to day eight months after the death of their son.

You always hear how common it is for couples to split up after the death of a child, and it is easy to understand why.  This movie shows us the dissolution of Becca and Howie’s marriage in a unflinching, yet nuanced way.

Becca (Nicole Kidman) and Howie (Aaron Eckhart) handle their grief in drastically different ways.  Howie openly weeps while watching home videos of his son every night, while Becca takes a more pragmatic approach to her grief.

Howie prefers to leave every trace of their son intact-the fingerprints on doorknobs, the bedroom left precisely as it was before his death.  Becca wants to move out of the house that harbors far too many painful memories for her to bear.

He sees these things as memories that keep his son alive, she is haunted by those very same memories. Where is the middle ground?  No one is really wrong here.

It’s A Shark! It’s An Octopus! No, It’s ‘Sharktopus’ On Blu-Ray & DVD!

Just when you thought Christmas was coming to an end in a few weeks, it looks like a few elves over at Anchor Bay have a surprise in store for us on March 15, as the SyFy Channel original hit film Sharktopus is getting an official release on Blu-ray and DVD.

That’s right, you get to relive those classic moments of the Sharktopus destroying landmarks, devouring sea-bound travelers, and running amok all over again in glorious 72op. From the producing team of Roger and Julie Corman, the film is the cherry on top of Corman’s ice cream Sunday of a B-movie career, becoming the highest rated SyFy original film in the channel’s history with over 2.5 million viewers back in September.

For those of you who missed it, here’s the official synopsis.

An eight-tentacled nightmare hybrid of shark and octopus, “S-11” was created by genetic scientist Nathan Sands (Eric Roberts) as the U.S. Navy’s next super-weapon. But when its control implants are damaged during a training experiment off the Mexican coast, the beast escapes to Puerto Vallarta to sample the local fare — bikini babes, jet-skiers, and spring-breakers.

Jon Favreau Officially Steps Down From Directing ‘Iron Man 3’

While many people consider Jon Favreau to Marvel much like Chris Nolan is to Warner Bros and DC Entertainment, not everyone knows that there were plenty of problems between Favreau and the studio when they wanted him to return for Iron Man 2.

Of course, Favreau finished the film, and made a mint doing so (as did the studio) but it looks like the tension may be happening again between the director and his films’ home. MTV News got first hint at there being a problem with with Marvel and the Swingers director when Favreau expressed concerns about future Marvel properties.

“In theory, Iron Man 3 is going to be a sequel or continuation of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and Avengers. That whole world … I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.”

It was later tweeted out by Favreau that he’s officially going to work on Magical Kingdom for Disney and step down as the director of Iron Man 3. The irony here being that Disney owns Marvel, so it’s basically like leaving one room of a big house to go into another.

So this begs the question: who will take over for Favreau? With Marvel wanting Iron Man 3 to continue the Avengers storyline, could this mean that Avengers director and fanboy extraordinaire Joss Whedon will take on the challenge?

Marvel has yet to release a statement, but you can believe they have a shortlist ready for just the press release.

Get Amped Up With The First Trailer For ‘Fast Five’

We all remember the scoffs Universal got when news hit that they were doing a fourth sequel to the Fast and the Furious franchise, but when the film opened to an astounding $70 million in the first weekend, the only people laughing were at the studio. So why wouldn’t they continue that trend with another film?

So here it is, the fifth film in the series, titled simply Fast Five. Worry not, fans won’t get another Tokyo Drift, as Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, and a bunch of the originals are all returning. Here’s the breakdown of the film.

Since Brian (Walker) and Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) broke Dom out of custody, they’ve blown across many borders to elude authorities. Now backed into a corner in Rio de Janeiro, they must pull one last job in order to gain their freedom. As they assemble their elite team of top racers, the unlikely allies know their only shot of getting out for good means confronting the corrupt businessman who wants them dead. But he’s not the only one on their tail. Hard-nosed federal agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson) never misses his target. When he is assigned to track down Dom (Diesel) and Brian, he and his strike team launch an all-out assault to capture them. But as his men tear through Brazil, Hobbs learns he can’t separate the good guys from the bad. Now, he must rely on his instincts to corner his prey…before someone else runs them down first.

The flick is set to hit on April 29th, and you can check out the full trailer after the jump.
