HBO Renews ‘Boardwalk Empire’ After One Episode

With the ratings for Sunday’s premiere of the Martin Scorsese Terrance Winter show Boardwalk Empire showing it to be a big hit, HBO has already reacted to the news and is giving the show another season after airing only that first episode. HBO made the decision “following resounding critical approval and high viewer numbers.”

The series starring Steve Buscemi and Michael Pitt had 4.8 million viewers to become the cable network’s biggest debut since Deadwood in 2004. According to reports, the renewal decision was a combination of factors including the terrific premiere ratings, positive reviews and also the substantial upfront cost of making the series, which the network would like to see spread across as many episodes as possible.

As an immediete fan of the show after watching the first episode and knowing it only gets better from here, I’m pretty happy about the news. Besides, who wouldn’t want more Scorsese? I know I do.

Want more details on HBO’s decision? Check out the full press release after the jump. Boardwalk Empire airs Sunday nights at 9/8C on HBO.

Exclusive: Charlie Day Talks About Being Kicked Out Of The Gang On ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’

Yesterday, we brought you an exclusive chat with Kaitlin Olson, one of the stars of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which is currently in its sixth season on FX. She informed us of a crucial plotline in the coming season, as Sweet Dee is actually getting pregnant on the show. Now, Charlie Day is dropping another bomb on us.

In an interview, Day announced that he will be kicked out of the gang this season, leaving us one man short of a “Philly Gang” for at least one episode. As most who have seen this season’s premiere know, episodes this season will actually string together, rather than the single-serving episodes that we’ve been accustomed to.

Check out our full interview with Charlie after the jump, and be sure to catch more interviews with the cast of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia all week long. Catch a new episode of the show every Thursday night on FX.

Marvel Superhero Theme Park Being Considered by Euro Disney

It’s been a while since Disney acquired Marvel, and if you’ve been wondering what sort of superhero goodness the company may bring, consider for a moment a Marvel theme park brought to life by the amazing Disney Imagineers. That’s precisely what Euro Disney is considering as they ink a brand-new 20-year agreement with the French government, the owners of the undeveloped land surrounding the park in Paris.

This recent deal would allow Euro Disney not only more time to develop to develop the land in Marne-la-Vallée, just outside of Paris, by extending the deadline from 2017 to 2030, it would offer the resort a way out of the economic downturn that has impinged on attendance in recent quarters. President of Euro Disney Philippe Gas, and the operator of Disneyland Paris, has gone on record to say that the idea for a ‘superheroes park’ is a long-term vision that could come as late as 2020, but if work on the Disney Studios park is completed, it could be even sooner.

You may recall that the original agreement with the French Government required that Disney would only be allowed to purchase additional plots of land once previous plots had been fully developed. As one of France’s first public-private development partnerships, the expanded agreement brings Euro Disney’s available land up to 2,230 hectares, plenty of room for a Spider-Man ride that hurtles park visitors from web to web in a life-size recreation of NYC. A fan-boy can dream, right?

Shakespeare Gets Animated In This ‘Gnomeo and Juliet’ Trailer

Pixar and Dreamworks may monopolize the film animation market, but relatively small effects company Starz Animation is looking to creep up with their latest film, Gnomeo and Juliet. The film is even getting a Disney bump by being distributed through their Touchstone subsidiary. Starz is best known for producing 9 and Space Chimps, unfortunately

The name leaves little to the imagination in terms of plot, but just in case you need it spelled out, the official synopsis should help.

The greatest love story ever told, starring…garden gnomes? In “Gnomeo & Juliet,” Shakespeare’s revered tale gets a comical, off-the-wall makeover. Directed by Kelly Asbury (co-director of “Shrek 2”) and showcasing both classic and original songs by Elton John, the film features the voices of James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as Gnomeo and Juliet, who have as many obstacles to overcome as their quasi namesakes when they are caught up in a feud between neighbors. But with plastic pink flamingos and thrilling lawnmower races in the mix, can this young couple find a happy ending?

Produced in the US with a mainly British cast and music by Elton John, what could possibly go wrong? Check out the full trailer after the jump, and be sure to catch the family-friendly laughs of Gnomeo and Juliet on February 11th.

Check Out This New Trailer for ‘Red Hill’

In the new movie Red Hill starring True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten (aka Jason Stackhouse) he plays young police officer Shane Cooper who relocates to the small country town of Red Hill with his pregnant wife Alice to start a family. And if that’s where the story ended, we probably wouldn’t be talking about it today.

Instead, when news of a prison break sends the local law enforcement officers into a panic, Shane’s first day on duty rapidly turns into a nightmare. Enter Jimmy Conway, a convicted murderer serving life behind bars, who has returned to the isolated outpost seeking revenge.Isn’t that the way it always is. Those darn convicted murders.

Now caught in the middle of what will become a terrifying and bloody confrontation, Shane will be forced to take the law into his own hands if he is to survive. I’ll bet he probably does but still, looking forward to this movie anyway. It sounds pretty good.

Plus ladies, I believe Kwanten takes his shirt off at least once during the film. So see, its not just a movie for guys. Check out the trailer after the jump.

Red Hill will play Chicago International Film Festival, the Mill Valley Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, and the Philadelphia Film Festival before its November 5th release.

The Expendables vs. The Essentials

As summer dies down with explosive fire power and spiritual journeys to other lands, I recall the glorious action fest that was The Expendables. In turns out Julia Roberts has nothing on protein packed men with a mission on their minds. My female counterparts have voiced their love of meaty men in droves and unexpectedly taken away business from Julia’s love fest. Nearly 40 percent of The Expendables‘ audience was women. X-Men Origins: Wolverine‘s audience raked them in as nearly 50 percent of the audience was female. It seems women have tired of the boys akin to Michael Cera and instead jones for something with a little more muscle. Stallone should have learned the key to Hugh Jackman’s success to driving women in throngs- taking off his shirt.

I hear Hugh gave up his lead in Avon Man to start his insane work-out to become the ferocious mutant once again. If you take months upon months to beef up like these 80‘s action legends did, you’d think they’d want to show it off. Plus, wasn’t it super hot in Louisiana and Brazil where The Expendables shot? It was like 100 degrees with 100 percent humidity. Stallone couldn’t have been the only one who was feeling the heat.  Take off those shirts and up your female movie-going audience to 51 percent.

New Trailer for Ron Howard’s ‘The Dilemma’ Hits the Web

To be honest, we don’t know a lot about director Ron Howard’s latest film The Dilemma. Sure, it stars Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, Jennifer Connelly and Winona Ryder and looks to be pretty funny, but you just never know.

Fortunately, to help decide if this one’s worth a look we’ve got a brand new trailer for the film to share with you (and us) today. In it, Vaughn’s character discovers that his best friend (James) doesn’t really have the perfect marriage after all when he sees the man’s wife with someone else. Yes, that someone else is tanned and tattooed Channing Tatum. But hey, what are you gonna do?

Actually, that’s the question that plagues Vaughn in the film: What is he going to do? Does he tell his friend or let it go? Quite a dilemma. See what I did there?

The Dilemma is scheduled to hit theaters in January 2011. Check out the trailer after the jump.
