What You Missed: ‘Community’ and ‘The Cape’ at Comic-Con

Even though Comic-Con was over a week ago that doesn’t stop us from having a bunch of content we just couldn’t fit in during our normal coverage of the event. So, expect to see Comic-Con related videos, photos, interviews, etc for quite some time still.

Continuing that trend, we’ve got some cool video for you from the Con right here. One is from Community, a show we really love and the other is from The Cape, a show that looks like something we will most likely love — at least from what we’ve seen of the show so far.

In these videos you can see the Community cast, including Joel McHale, Chevy Chase and Alison Brie, share their glowing impressions of the passionate and devoted fans they met at Comic-Con. Plus, listen close for a few hints on what’s coming next season. Plus, the cast of The Cape, including Vinnie Jones, Martin Klebba and Summer Glau,  gives a great preview of the series.

War Movie Mondays: ‘Red Dawn’

Red Dawn is the ultimate “what if” Cold War movie. Set some time in the mid alternate 1980’s, Red Dawn depicts a world which has fast been assimilated into the sphere of Soviet influence. After NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) which was established by western powers after World War II to halt the advance of the Soviet Union rapidly dissolves, the United States is alone and left vulnerable to the threat of communist invasion.

Acclaimed director John Milius (The Wind & the Lion, Farewell to the King, Flight of the Intruder, Rough Riders), and future director/screenwriter Kevin Reynolds helm this 1984 cult classic.

Patrick Swayze (Jed Eckert), Charlie Sheen (Matt Eckert), C. Thomas Howell (Robert Morris), Lea Thompson (Erica Mason), Jennifer Grey (Toni Mason), Powers Boothe (Lt. Col. Andrew Tanner USAF), Harry Dean Stanton (Tom Eckert), Ron O’ Neal (Col. Ernesto Bella), and screen great Ben Johnson (George Mason) round out the cast.

The fictional town of Calumet, Colorado serves as the backdrop for the World War III invasion of the U.S. On a typical September morning as students are listening to their teacher’s lecture on the Mongol conquests of Asia, his attention is drawn to the sight of Soviet paratroops landing on the high school varsity football field. As violence erupts as the enemy quickly gains control of the town for more troops to be dropped in, six teenagers (Swayze, Sheen, Howell, Brad Savage (Danny), Darren Dalton (Daryl), and Doug Toby (Aardvark) flee to the mountains in order to avoid capture.

Two More Superstar DJs Coming to ‘DJ Hero 2′

When you talk about DJ Hero 2,  it’s hard not to start thinking about DJs as celebrities. Whether or not their name is thrown about your household, much of the world likely knows more of their work than some fly by night pop act that will be off the radio within two months. One such example of this is Tiësto.

Joining the ranks of Deadmau5 will be a man who could safely be considered the hottest DJ in the world at this time. Tiësto has literally performed in front of billions when he provided the music during the opening ceremonies of the Athens Olympics. He has collaborated with Muse, Justin Timberlake, Jónsi from Sigur Rós, Flo Rida, Sean Kingston and Three 6 Mafia and headlined the massive music festivals like the Coachella and Bonnaroo.

Check out the video after the jump, where Tiësto talks about what it means for him to be a part of the DJ Hero 2 world and how being a DJ isn’t just about hitting the play button.

First Trailer For ‘Catfish’ Will Throw You For A Loop

There are plenty of genre films flooding Hollywood today. What was once a niche market has now become quite a popular section of the box office on a week-to-week basis. With remakes, reboots, and sequels taking over, it’s nice to see a truly original film sneak by and surprise us all.

Catfish first popped up during the Sundance Film Festival, surprising nearly everyone in attendance, and confusing the rest. At that time, the film was declared “ready to blow away the public” but now we’re finally getting our first trailer for the film.

We don’t want to give too much away, but the title doesn’t have a whole lot to do with the film itself, so we’ll let the synopsis do the heavy lifting.

In late 2007, filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost sensed a story unfolding as they began to film the life of Ariel’s brother, Nev. They had no idea that their project would lead to the most exhilarating and unsettling months of their lives. A reality thriller that is a shocking product of our times, Catfish is a riveting story of love, deception and grace within a labyrinth of online intrigue.

Interest piqued? Well, check out the trailer after the jump, and make sure to sit through the first half so that you get to the good stuff. Catfish hits theaters on September 17th.

Check Out the ‘Piranha 3D’ Footage That Was ‘Too Hot’ For Comic-Con

Yes, that’s right folks. The Piranha 3D footage considered too hot, too graphic, too gross for Comic-Con has shown up online — as these things often do. In case you didn’t know, Director Alexandre Aja was forced to rent a theater away from the Con in San Diego in order to share the footage with fans. I got a chance to see this footage and I can say from experience that it is, indeed, pretty graphic.

Not sure about the exact reasons for it not being able to be shown within the halls of Comic-Con, but I guess it makes a certain sense, especially if their was a chance children could be in the room. You don’t want your children watching any of this, believe me.

Or, my cynical self says it could just be a marketing stunt by the filmmakers. If it is, it’s a pretty good one. After all, we are talking about the film right now, aren’t we?

Anyway, enough talk, take a look at the footage after the jump. The complete Piranha 3D experience hits theaters on August 20th.

Exclusive: Erica Durance Talks Lois Lane, Future of ‘Smallville’

Last week we brought you an exclusive interview with Tom Welling, the star of Warner Bros’ hit DC property, Smallville. In it, he discussed the possibility of continuing on after the final season of the show to play Superman in a feature-length film.

Of course, no Superman would be complete without his Lois Lane. Erica Durance has portrayed the character on Smallville since late 2004 when the show took a drastic turn from “teen drama” to “epic comic franchise.” Since then, she’s won the hearts of fans, and even helped erase the memory of Teri Hatcher and that whole other era of Superman.

When we spoke with Welling, one of the big questions to be asked was about the possibility of moving on to a Superman film. Tom seemed to be game, but is waiting it out for the right opportunity. We got to ask Erica the same question, who would be our obvious choice to play the fast-talking reporter in a silver screen adaptation.

Check out what she had to say after the jump, and keep it here for more interviews with the cast of Smallville leading up to the final season this Fall.
