New ‘Battlestar Galactica’ Series On the Way

Yes, you read that headline correctly. Syfy is preparing a new Battlestar Galactica series, currently entitled Blood and Chrome, that will follow the exploits of William Adama during the Cylon War.

However, before you start to get too excited the series won’t actually be a full blown TV show airing on Syfy. Instead, it will be a web series with about 10 episodes, each around 9 minutes long. Not that I have anything against web series, in fact I kinda love them. I was just hoping for a new network show with a big budget and lots of awesome Cylon heads exploding and big space battles.

Oh well, here’s more on the show from Syfy:

According to Mark Stern, Syfy’s executive vice president of original programming and the co-head of original content for Universal Cable Productions, “Battlestar Galactica” and “Caprica” co-executive producer Michael Taylor will write the the script for the new venture.

“Blood & Chrome” is “about a young man’s initiation into war: both the realities of war as fought by soldiers on the ground (and in Battlestars and Vipers), and the somewhat less real version portrayed in the media,” according to Taylor.

“Blood & Chrome” would consist of nine or 10 episodes of nine or 10 minutes each, and it would make use of cutting-edge digital technology and special effects to depict the Cylon War. If it is greenlit to production, it will be filmed using green screens and virtual sets, not unlike Syfy’s “Sanctuary” or James Cameron’s “Avatar.” Before “Battlestar Galactica” ended, high-tech scans were made of all the show’s sets, so that the special-effects team will be able to re-create them (possibly even in 3D).

But wait, there’s more:

SDCC10: Josh Gates Discusses ‘Destination Truth’

As you Flickcast readers know, I’m a huge fan of SyFy’s Destination Truth. I’ve urged you to watch it. Are you? If not, why? You know I have impeccable taste and that I never steer you wrong.

Perhaps this final bit of evidence will convince you. I had the opportunity to talk to Mr. Gates at Comic-Con this year. Just being around him is an adventure. Do you know how many White Shirts (the preferred color of security this year) I had to dodge just to get into the SyFy press room? Do you know how many times my phone went out as I was trying to find them? Do you know how dehydrated and shaky I was? Yeah. You have no idea. This was hardcore. Press badges mean nothing in the wilderness of Comic-Con.

All humor aside (and I’m quite ill as I’m writing this, so it’s probably not as funny as I think it is), it was fantastic to talk to Gates. He talked about the dangers of filming Destination Truth, the things he still can’t explain, and just how they do laundry in far-flung locations. After the jump, watch the delight that is Josh Gates, and be sure to check out the exotic delight that is Destination Truth when it returns to SyFy on September 9th.

New ‘Thor’ Game Gets a Trailer

Video games and comic pretty much go hand in hand these days. Whenever a movie based on a comic book character or franchise is on the way, expect a video game to soon follow. Marvel’s upcoming Thor film is no exception and will have a game based on it released soon after the movie.

Here’s all the info, and the first trailer, on the game from our pals at Marvel:

“Whosoever holds this hammer…if he be worthy…”

On the heels of San Diego’s Comic-Con last week, SEGA has made available the teaser trailer for the recently announced title, Thor: The Video Game, that was displayed at the convention.

Coming next year to the Xbox 360, PlayStation3, PSP system, Wii and Nintendo DS, this 3rd person action adventure boasts an original storyline exclusive to the videogame, for which Matt Fraction, lead Thor comic book author, served as story consultant.

Fans of this character will also get their first glimpse of Thor’s legendary hammer, Mjölnir, in this teaser trailer. Check it out after the jump and let us know what you think of it.

SDCC10: Bruce Campbell and Tim Matheson Chat About The Upcoming Season of ‘Burn Notice’

USA’s Burn Notice has been sizzling the small screen all summer long, so The Flickcast braved the waves of fans at the San Diego Comic-Con to talk with its covert operatives.  We were right alongside geek god Bruce Campbell and the sprightly Tim Matheson to discuss living in the scorching heat of Miami. Although one plays the angel and the other the devil on Michael Weston’s shoulder, they have one thing in common: they both enjoy a cool Mojito at the end of a long shoot day.

With their plethora of credits both on and off screen, they are the quintessential “Jack of All Trades.” Campbell, of course, has been acting, directing, producing, and hamming it up in many a geeky film like Evil Dead. Matheson is no stranger to being behind the camera and directing an episode or two of many a USA show including White Collar, Psych, Covert Affairs, and of course his own killer schemes in Burn Notice. I guess being dead frees up your spare time. But, sorrow no more as it’s confirmed Larry Sizemore was (gasp) not really dead and will be returning next season.

Following the jump hear what these two spies have to say about surviving and thriving in the world of Jason Bourne meets Miami Vice and maybe even learn a thing or two.
