It’s rare that we ever come across a film that crosses two very different genres so seamlessly as the Finnish film Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale. Based on the series of shorts in which a Finnish shipping company explains the best and worst ways in dealing with renegade Santa Clauses, this story tells the tale of how that fictional company came to be.
Marketed as a horror, yet played as a Joe Dante-esque holiday adventure, Exports is able to both scare the crap out of you with hundreds of naked old men, as it is able to make you smile at the ridiculousness of hundreds of naked old men running through the snow.
If you’ve got the stomach for a film in subtitles, we recommend watching this one in its original tongue. Skip the dubs so you don’t get lost in some of the performances that make this playful horror film as fun as it is.
Some may consider the film to be a bit of a slow build for what is surely an epic and explosive ending, but if you relate with the two curious boys or any of the members of the search party then you will be along for every minute of the action here.

We don’t feature enough Indie films around here so to remedy that, I’ve got one for you today that looks especially interesting. It’s called Bellflower and before you snicker and turn away because of the title, you really should watch the trailer.
Here’s some info about the film from the official synopsis:
Best friends Woodrow and Aiden spend all of their free time building Mad Max-inspired flamethrowers and muscle cars in preparation for a global apocalypse. But when Woodrow meets a charismatic young woman and falls hard in love, he and Aiden quickly integrate into a new group of friends, setting off on a journey of love and hate, betrayal, infidelity and extreme violence more devastating and fiery than any of their apocalyptic fantasies.
Written and directed by Evan Glodell, the film features Jessie Wiseman, Tyler Dawson, Rebekah Brandes, Vincent Grashaw and Evan Glodell. It opens in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, August 5th.
Check out the trailer to this very interesting film after the jump. You won’t be sorry you did.

Halloween is officially over for 2010, and if you’ve walked into a department store or supermarket since Sunday, you know that Christmas is just around the corner. Just because the jolliest of holidays is on it’s way, that doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy a good old fashioned scary movie.
Introducing Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale. We don’t want to diminish it’s amazing premise by rehashing it, so here’s the official plot:
It’s the eve of Christmas in northern Finland and an “archeological” dig has just unearthed the real Santa Claus. But this particular Santa isn’t the one you want coming to town. When all the local children begin mysteriously disappearing, young Pietari and his father Rauno, a reindeer hunter by trade, capture the mythological being and attempt to sell Santa to the misguided leader of the multinational corporation sponsoring the dig.
Santa’s elves, however, will stop at nothing to free their fearless leader from captivity. What ensues is a wildly humorous nightmare – a fantastically bizarre polemic on modern day morality.
It’s all of your favorite holiday classics like Black Christmas and Ernest Saves Christmas all in one Finnish bundle! If the synopsis didn’t sell you on the film, the tagline in trailer most certainly will.
He sees you when you’re sleeping. He knows when you’re awake. He knows if you’ve been bad or good. And he doesn’t give a F***.
Check out the trailer after the jump and head over to the official page for the official US release dates.
