First Trailer For Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘TWIXT’ Hits The Web

Everyone may have had their sites set of things they knew about like Amazing Spider-Man and Game of Thrones this year at San Diego Comic-Con, but one film that managed to turn tons of heads (that managed to get into the panel) was Francis Ford Coppola’s newest vampire/witchcraft based film, TWIXT.

Starring Val Kilmer and Elle Fanning, the film takes the world of Vampires and Witches that modern audiences know all too well and gives it an old spin. Here’s the premise.

A writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V. He’s unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. Ultimately he is led to the truth of the story, surprised to find that the ending has more to do with his own life than he could ever have anticipated.

If Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang taught us anything, it’s that Val Kilmer as a failed anything is much more entertaining and believable than a successful Val Kilmer.m The only unfortunate part of the trailer is the pacing, and how the visuals tend to linger, which would be impressive if they were shots and visual aesthetics that we haven’t seen countless times before.

Judge for yourself and take a look at the trailer after the jump. TWIXT hits theaters later this year.

Laurence Fishburne Cast in ‘Superman: Man of Steel’….As Perry White?

As a journalist, it becomes daunting to constantly report on a film with a “WTF?” attitude, but that’s exactly the reaction we have every time we get casting news about Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman reboot/sequel, titled Man Of Steel.

With the exception of Michael Shannon and the lead Henry Cavill, every other piece of casting news has been quite questionable for a film like Superman. Between Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane as Martha Kent, how much weirder could this film get? How about Matrix star Laurence Fishburne as Daily Planet Editor-in-Chief Perry White? That’s right. EW has the scoop.

The casting resolves the question of what Laurence would be up to following his departure this May from CBS’ long-running CSI after just over two seasons. (Ted Danson will take Fishburne’s place on the show this fall.)

White has traditionally been a hard-charging, old fashioned newspaperman, who relies on his ace reporters, Clark and Lois, to get the big scoop. Jackie Cooper played White in the Christopher Reeve-era Superman films, and Frank Langella took on the role in director Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns in 2006.

Exclusive: ‘X-Men: Destiny’ Hands On & Developer Interview

Recently, we got the chance to get hands on with X-Men: Destiny for the first time. In our demo we got to check out the first level of the game where we had the opportunity to choose between the game’s three possible protagonists Aimi, Grant and Adrian. When a massive Purifier attack hits downtown San Francisco, the player must also decide on the spot which of the three power sets they would like to equip their character with.

The early level surprisingly has a lot of conversation within it as players meet members of both the X-Men and Brotherhood who are both fighting against the Purifiers. Because of the noise in the Activision event, we couldn’t really hear the dialogue at the time but the gist we got was that both sides were already actively beginning to recruit this new mutant to their side.

X-Men: Destiny plays much like a standard 3D street brawler with the added bonus of mutant powers. There are your basic light, heavy, special and grab attacks along with blocking and dodging mechanics as expected. The gameplay itself was fun but the story possibilities are definitely the most intriguing part for us.

Exclusive Interview: Mark Hamill On ‘Batman: Arkham City’, Playing Joker in ‘The Killing Joke’

For just over 20 years, former Skywaker Mark Hamill has made more of a name for himself in the comic book world than he ever did in the first three Star Wars films by becoming the definitive voice of The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series.

From TAS to Justice League, Birds of Prey, and just about any other animated incarnation of The Joker there has ever been, Hamill has literally been the only man to be best known as the voice of The Joker, past Nicholson and Ledger.

Now, Hamill returns for one last (hopefully not) appearance as the Clown Prince of Crime in the sequel to the successful video game Batman: Arkham Asylum. This time, Batman is on the prowl in the whole city, and Hamill’s Joker is ready to take him on. Again.

We also got to talk with Hamill about the possibility of voicing his favorite Joker storyline, which is Alan Moore’s “The Killing Joke”.

Check out exactly what Hamill had to say about the role and his history with the character after the jump, and be sure to grab Batman: Arkham City in stores on October 18th.

“The chance for the world to join a new Spider-Man as he discovers what that means in this modern world is one of the most challenging and crazy fun opportunities I’ve had as a writer,” explained Brian Bendis. “The Ultimate Comics Universe according to Miles is completely unique. I can’t wait to write every issue and I can’t wait for people to start reading them.”

Apple Updates Apple TV, Adds Purchase Support and More

It seems Apple has realized people may actually want to purchase content and watch it on their Apple TV devices instead of just stream content from a very limited set of suppliers. To facilitate this, the company issued an update to the Apple TV late yesterday that will allow users to stream purchased high-definition TV shows directly from iTunes.

Specifically, the update makes the following changes:

• iTunes TV Shows: Purchase your favorite TV shows directly from the iTunes Store and watch the shows you already own, commercial-free, in HD.

• Vimeo: Browse and play videos from Vimeo, access your video inbox, and mark videos you want to watch later.

You may recall that when the second generation Apple TV first launched it only allowed users to rent movies and shows and there was not an option to purchase titles for permanent ownership. Now, that’s changed — at least for TV programs.

For users in the U.S., Apple has also rolled out preliminary iCloud support with this update, allowing users to re-download some purchased television shows, though movie support is not yet available. We expect full iCloud support sometime in the next few months.

SDCC11 Interview: Cast and Crew of ‘Black Dynamite’ Give the Scoop on the First Season

When they first seated the cast and crew of the new Adult Swim animated comedy Black Dynamite at my table, I don’t think they realized we were there for the roundtable discussion.  Spending the first 5 minutes of the interview talking about YouTube videos and their co-star J.B. Smooth spitting all over the recording mic, I honestly was just enjoying seeing them hang out.  Eventually, they realized I was there for the interview and we got down to business.

Among those at the table were executive producer Carl Jones, best known for producing The Boondocks on Adult Swim, co-executive producer Brian Ash, and cast members Kym Whitley and Michael Jai White, who you can check out  in Matt Raub’s video interview later.

Quick background:  the Black Dynamite animated series is actually a spin off of a 2009 blaxploitation spoof.  Starring a lot of the same cast including Michael Jai White and Byron Minns, the film premiered at Sundance that year.  Director Scott Sanders shot the movie on Super 16 film as a direct homage/satire of the cult genre from the 70s.  Here is where I would give a quick plot recap, but I will never word it better than the description found on the official website:

“When ‘The Man’ murders his brother, pumps heroin into local orphanages, and floods the ghetto with adulterated malt liquor, Black Dynamite is the one hero willing to fight all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honkey House.”
