‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ Still King – $1,000,000,000 in 15 Days

So, it’s official. Call of Duty: Black Ops II can boast earning more money in just 15 days than some countries can as their GNP for a full year. Call of Duty: Black Ops II has also reached this epic milestone of $1 Billion in sales in a shorter time than any other entertainment property. The fastest grossing video game of all time, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 did it in 16 days. Avatar, the fastest grossing film of all time and highest grossing film of all time, took 17 days.

“The release of Call of Duty® has been one of the most significant entertainment events of each of the last six years,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “Since Call of Duty was launched, cumulative franchise revenues from players around the world are greater than current worldwide box office receipts to date for the top-10 grossing films of 2012 combined. Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Star Wars,’ the two most successful movie franchises of all time.”

Casper Van Dien to Play Johnny Cage in ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy’s Second Season

Way back in June of 2011, a high quality fan film called Mortal Kombat: Rebirth made its way to the internet. Many speculated at first that it was a viral campaign to help with the relaunched Mortal Kombat game franchise but everyone found out it was just a group of people with tons of love for Mortal Kombat. The film would end up getting picked up by Machinima.com and get turned into its own webseries called Mortal Kombat: Legacy and feature characters like Sonya, Jax, Kitana, Mileen and the robots, Cyrax and Sektor.

Yesterday, Warner Bros. Digital announced that Mortal Kombat Legacy would be getting a second season set to premiere its first clip on February 17th, 2013 at the Streamy Awards. On top of that, they have announced that the role of Johnny Cage will be taken on by Casper Van Dien. Casper is most famous for the role of Johnny Rico in the Starship Trooper’s franchise and looks very similar to Johnny Cage already.

Now, I’m not going to come on here and pretend I know what every geek in your life is going to want. But if they are anything like me, there is at least something on here that they do want.

Reedus & Rooker Coming to ‘The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct’

It’s the announcement that pretty much everyone knew was coming. With a second game based on The Walking Dead (this time off of the hit AMC TV series) due out in 2013 and being based on the characters of Daryl and Merle Dixon, it’d be downright silly of Activision to put out this game without the duo of Normal Reedus and Michael Rooker lending their likenesses and voices to The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. Activision knows this as their PR has stated that “Their addition is central to developer Terminal Reality’s commitment to delivering an engrossing, original experience that stays authentic to the characters, tone and storyline of the series.” Rooker actually recently lent his vocal talents to a little game called Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

In the game, players assume the role of the mysterious, crossbow-wielding survivor Daryl Dixon. This first-person survival title takes place within the universe of “The Walking Dead” and before the events of the AMC show, following Daryl and his brother Merle on a gruesome journey to reach the supposed safety of Atlanta as the world around them ends. Reedus and Rooker will bring life to their characters’ desperate, unforgiving struggle against limited resources, the nightmarish walkers and, perhaps, their fellow survivors…

Christmas Picks: ‘Lethal Weapon’

This week’s Christmas pick is the 1987 buddy cop classic Lethal Weapon. The film stars Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, and Gary Busey.

Being the first film in the successful movie franchise, Lethal Weapon is not just a classic action film, but it’s also a Christmas film as well. The film centers around two L.A.P.D. detectives who are reluctantly partnered together in order to solve a murder that was disguised as a suicide.

Roger Murtaugh (Glover) is an aging officer who has just celebrated his fiftieth birthday and is looking forward to an early retirement. Martin Riggs (Gibson) is a burnt out, borderline psychotic officer who is grieving over the recent death of his wife.

After an undercover drug bust in which Riggs’ life was in jeopardy, Riggs’ superiors have him transferred to homicide where he is partnered with Murtaugh who is aware of Riggs’ illustrious reputation. Both men see this new partnership as an inconvenience and are less than thrilled to work with one another.

Take a First Look at ‘Stan Lee’s Academy of Heroes’

Real life costumed heroes. It sounds like something that could never actually happen. People running around in tights, boots and masks and trying to make the world a better place just seems so fantastic that it couldn’t become a reality. But recently, there has been a trend of people doing just that. Though they don’t have super powers, these people go out trying to do what they can to make a difference in the world. And who better to guide these fledgling heroes than the man who helped create some of the world’s most iconic fictional heroes, Stan Lee.

Starting next Thursday on Stan Lee’s World of Heroes YouTube network, Stan Lee will be launching his newest project Stan Lee’s Academy of Heroes (say what you will about the man but he sure knows how to brand himself). Stan will take a group of these real life hero wannabes and help train them to become the heroes they envision themselves to be. These aren’t cosplayers. These are people going out and actually doing things to try and help those around them. Along with guest trainers like David Hasselhoff, Stan and his team will help heroes work with their strengths and overcome their weaknesses in order to find one worthy of joining Stan Lee’s World of Heroes.
