iPhone 5 Pre-Orders to Reportedly Start on Friday the 14th

That’s right folks, it’s almost iPhone 5 time! After months (years?) of speculation, rumor and more, tomorrow Apple will officially unveil the next generation of its famous iPhone lineup.

We’re still not sure if it will actually be called iPhone 5 (our guess is it will just be ‘iPhone’, much like the latest iPad dropped its number) but still, exciting times are upon us. One bummer though regarding tomorrow’s announcement, it’s reported that although the new hotness will be unveiled in all its glory tomorrow, you won’t actually be able to pre-order it until Friday the 14th.

The reason for the wait? Nobody really knows (except Apple, of course) but we can speculate that Apple wants to keep building anticipation for the device and also give partners and its retail stores a few extra days to get ready for the big ordering frenzy that’s sure to come.

A couple more days really isn’t all that bad, is it? After all, you’ve waited this long. So, who’s gonna pre-order as soon as they can?

Get Your First Look at Spielberg’s ‘Abraham Lincoln’ with a Teaser Teaser

This is what its come to folks. Now, instead of trailers and teasers we have sneak peeks at teasers and trailers. Of course, as we are wont to do, we bring you what we can.

In this case it’s a preview of the first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film Abraham Lincoln. As you most likely know, the film stars Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robert Todd Lincoln.

In addition, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, Jared Harris, John Hawkes, Sally Field and David Strathairn also star. It was written by Tony Kushner, based on the novel Push by Safire. No, not really. That’s a little joke.

It’s actually based on the book book Team Of Rivals by Doris Kerns Goodwin. The actual trailer is set to drop on September 13. The film is set to open on November 9.

For now, check out what we’ve got after the break.

Monday Picks: ‘The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension’

This week’s Monday Pick is the 1984 multi genre classic The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. Director/screenwriter W.D. Richter (Dracula (1979), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), Big Trouble in Little China) created one of the weirdest and most beloved cult classics of the 1980s.

Peter Weller (Robocop) stars as the multi talented neurosurgeon, physicist, rock musician and comic book hero Buckaroo Banzai who battles aliens know as Red Lectroids from the Planet 10 who plot to take over the Earth. Buckaroo Banzai’s character was influenced by the 1930s pulp novels of Doc Savage, much like Lucas and Spielberg’s Indiana Jones that was influenced after the literary adventure character of Allan Quatermain.

Buckaroo Banzai has always been a favorite of mine since I first saw it in theaters in the summer of 1984. It’s a very interesting/hard film to describe to anyone who has never scene it. The premise is beyond absurd but that’s what makes the film so lovable. Banzai and his team of do-gooders known as The Hong Kong Cavaliers (a version of Doc Savage’s Fabulous Five) battle the evil Red Lectroids under the command of Lord John Whorfin (yes an alien leader named John) played to psychotic perfection by John Lithgow, who is actually an Italian physicist known as Dr. Emilio Lizardo. Yeah, it’s a little confusing but when you watch the film it all comes together.

Let The G4 Farewell Tour Officially Commence

When G4 originally began airing in 2002 it was amazing and way ahead of its time. For lack of a better descriptor the original line was basically the gaming community on the internet transformed into a TV station. There were Top 10 lists, reviews, live interactive chat shows, machinama using MMOs, cheats, and video game cut scenes, just because.

Almost all of those original shows were low-budget, and clearly made by a talented and fun crew of people who just wanted to give the video game community the pop culture voice it deserved. Unfortunately all good things had to come to an end, and as soon as G4 merged with Tech TV, both fantastic channels were lost forever, and the current shell of a channel called G4 was born.

Even with the turn away from great gaming television the channel managed to strike the cord for another, much more lucrative market, boys age 13-34. Of course there was still gaming programming, but the focus of the channel moved more towards a generic broad audience appeal, and it never really grew.

Now the other foot is about to drop, and the borrowed time G4 earned by airing Ninja Warrior, Cops and Cheaters reruns has run out. According to Variety, the new head honchos are eyeing an upgrade:

The NBCUniversal-owned cabler is undergoing a rebranding, according to sources, that could involve a name change and take G4 in a direction reminiscent of GQ, the magazine for the “modern male” whose interests span beyond the dorm room or messy bachelor pad. The guy-centric net is mulling a more sophisticated look while remaining true to its tech and vid game roots. Brand refresh aims to bow in early 2013.

A New, Shorter Trailer For The Stunning Looking ‘Cloud Atlas’ Might Be Better For A Mass Audience

A little while ago we showed you a long form debut trailer for the film Cloud Atlas, directed by the Wachowski’s and Tom Tykwer. The film looks stunning and has an incredibly talented cast, but the story looks to be rather complex and even in over five minutes of trailer time many were left confused.

Thankfully the theatrical trailer has finally made its way to the internet, which attempts to sell a more wide audience on a story that has layers on top of layers on top of layers. The new trailer has been essentially cut in half from the previous internet clip, but it still manages to shove in a few new stellar shots to intrigue those who already caught the first preview.

Of course losing two and a half minutes of time means certain elements will be lost on the general public. Few people will probably be able to tell the basic narrative structure, which the long form preview only just barely was able to convey. Also potentially under sold in this version is just how many good actors are in this movie, I mean Hugh Grant and Hugo Weaving are barely even in the trailer at all.

Still, it is smart to get a more digestible version of the trailer out there, and you can check it out after the jump.

SDCC12 Flashback: Interview with WWE Diva Layla

As you may have noticed over the past few days we have posted up some interviews from San Diego Comic-Con. We apologize for the delay but we had some video and editing issues that we had to work through and now they’re ready. Hope you enjoy!

Originally starting out in the WWE Diva Search, Layla worked her way through a stint as a member of Extreme Expose on ECW all the way to the Diva Championship. In the process, she became a part of one of the strongest pairings of WWE Divas in recent memory as one half of LayCool with Michelle McCool. This year, Layla made her Comic-Con debut at the Mattel booth. In our interview, Layla speaks to us about her progress with WWE in her six-year run with the company as well as her thoughts on Comic-Con being the pop culture event of the year. And even though we said we won’t hold her to it, we asked her who she cosplay as next year if she comes back to Comic Con next year.

Check out the full interview with Layla from SDCC after the break.

And Now For Something Completely Different… A Trailer For The Animated Film ‘A Liar’s Autobiography’

Like for many people who are alive on this earth, the Pythons exist in a place of great regard here at The Flickcast. Their films, TV shows and live performances are the stuff of comedy legend, and even after the team broke up all of the troupe have gone on to do great things. Well all except that lazy bum Graham Chapman.

Finally, it seems, Chapman has decided to dust himself off and get his act together, starring in an animated version of his autobiographical-ish autobiography, A Liar’s Autobiography. Which brings together most of the Python’s to provide voices for the colorful people who probably littered Graham’s life.

Eric Idle, who apparently also has a fear of zombies, does not seem to play a part in this forthcoming animated opus. However, he wrote the afterward for the novelization of this movie back in 1991, so he gets a pass.

You can take a good long look at the trailer for the film that dares to combine fourteen animation studios and up to five Pythons, the number changes depending on how you count the deceased, after the jump.
