Game Review: ‘Transformers: Fall of Cybertron’ for XBox 360

Two years ago, gamers were greeted with the first true Transformers game. It wasn’t tied into a movie or one of the relaunched tv series. Transformers: War for Cybertron brought players into a third person shooter that is treated as actual G1 Transformers cartoon continuity. Transformers: War for Cybertron captured what nostalgic fans of the series loved about the original 1980’s toy line and show by giving a backstory to the tale that people had already become familiar with. Now, after being interrupted by a Michael Bay movie tie-in, the team over at High Moon Studios is able to continue their piece of the Transformers saga with Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.

Gameplay

As mentioned, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a third person shooter. Maybe it is the Activision pedigree or the experience that High Moon Studios has had with the franchise but the shooting is much tighter than it felt in the previous Transformers: War for Cybertron, which was already fairly good. There are subtle assists when taking aim but the control scheme, damage system and hit boxes around enemies all feel reasonable.

Check Out This International Trailer For ‘Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters’

This is going to be one of those films that either finds it’s very specific audience, or will go down as the less remembered  cinematic soul mate of The Brothers Grimm, either way this film has an up hill battle to wage this January.

A new international trailer as hit, and unfortunately it still looks like a head scratching decision for just about everyone involved. For those who have remained blissfully unaware of this impending film, here is its unflinchingly lengthy synopsis:

Catching up with Hansel (Renner) and Gretel (Arterton) 15 years after the traumatic incident involving a gingerbread house, the siblings have evolved into vengeful bounty hunters dedicated to exterminating witches. Over the years, the siblings became expert hunters, famous for their proficiency at tracking and taking down their prey. Although still recovering from their ordeal, their work is relatively easy as for an unknown reason harmful spells and curses do not work well against them.

The Mayor of Augsburg recruits them to rid the town and nearby forests of an evil sorceress (Janssen) who is planning to sacrifice many local children at the witches’ gathering during the upcoming ‘Blood Moon’ night in two days time. To make things worse, the duo also has to deal with the brutal Sheriff Berringer (Stormare) who has taken power in Augsburg and conducts a very indiscriminate witch-hunt of his own.

You can see the new trailer after the jump.

Is There A Director’s Cut Of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Being Assembled For Blu-Ray?

You can say a great many things about The Dark Knight Rises, but brisk is not one of them. The film is long, and while it might not feel like nearly three hours long, it does feel well over two. Which is noticeable when the last third of this long film somehow felt rushed and bloated all at the same time.

Which is why the rumor coming out of Nuke The Fridge holds a tiny shred of merit. The movie feels like it does have scenes, or at least extensions of scenes on the cutting room floor:

Sources have informed Nuke the Fridge that not only is a Director’s Cut being developed by Warner Bros. for “The Dark Knight Rises,” but it’s going to include Bane’s origin plus a bit more screentime for Ra’s Al Ghul (Liam Neeson) which were omitted from the current theatrical cut of the movie.

Generally, director Christopher Nolan does not believe in director’s cuts, and he allegedly also has final cut on his films these days, so our first reaction to this talk was complete dismissal. Then, as you think back on the flawed final Bat-film, it kind of actually makes sense. Especially if the sources are to be believed and the major additions are Bane’s back story and more Ra’s.

Right now the smart thing to do would be to file this under B for ‘believe it when we see it’, but keep tuned to The Flickcast for any future confirmations or denials about a Dark Knight Rises director’s cut.

SDCC 2012 Flashback: Interview with WWE’s Brodus Clay

Hey everyone, we have a few videos coming up over the next few days headed back to San Diego Comic Con with some interviews of various WWE Superstars. We apologize for the delay but we had some video and editing issues that we had to work through on them. Hope you enjoy!

One of the biggest character reinventions of the past year came from Brodus Clay. Originally just a monster who came to the aid of Alberto Del Rio during Del Rio’s war with Edge in 2012, Clay returned to the WWE programming in January of this year as the Funkasaurus Brodus Clay. Wearing a track suit and matching fedora, Brodus danced his way to the ring alongside his two Funkadactyls. Brodus talked to the Flickcast about being a long time comic fan. He also talked about the two sides of himself that come out in the ring during competition.

Check out the full interview with the Funkasaurus Brodus Clay from SDCC below and stay tuned for more from the Flickcast.

SDCC12 Flashback: Interview with WWE’s Zack Ryder

Hey everyone, we have some videos coming up over the next few days that take us back to San Diego Comic-Con for interviews with various WWE Superstars. We apologize for the delay but we had some editing issues that we had to work through. Hope you enjoy!

In addition to movies and comics, action figures have a huge presence at Comic-Con. It is only fitting that WWE would choose to send the Internet Champion Zack Ryder to Comic Con to represent the company at the Mattel booth. On Zack Ryder’s now famous YouTube show as well as his interview on Colt Cabana’s Art of Wrestling Podcast, it has become public knowledge that Ryder is an action figure fanatic.

We got to talk to Ryder about his love of figures as well as his hopes for WrestleMania 29, set in his own backyard in New Jersey. Zack even gives us some insight into his thoughts on the Jersey Shore.

Check out the full interview with Long Island Iced Z Zack Ryder from SDCC below and stay tuned for more from The Flickcast.

By The Power Of Deductive Reasoning We Can Say We Think The iPhone 5 Will Be Announced Next Week

That huge and oh so subtle image above is an invitation Apple has recently sent out to press the world over. Apple is having an event on the 12th of September and we wonder what on earth they could possibly be unveiling. Besides of course from the rumored iPod Touch Maxi, or iPad Mini, which ever you prefer.

Usually there is a little bit of a guessing game when ever an expected major Apple product is near, but this is clear. Some one over at the Apple marketing department must have gone on an all day DaVinci Code and National Treasure bender to come up with this brain buster.

Mockery aside, finally getting real news about the iPhone 5 will be welcome. We have been speculating about this mythic beast of mass commercialism for a long time now, and it will be nice to put some of the crazier speculation to rest for a little while.

For those unfamiliar with Apple’s general release strategy, you can expect the iPhone 5 to hit stores within a month or so of the announcement. So if you have visions of being a first adopter to this technology of the gods than you might want to go stake out a spot in front of your local Apple store right now.

Jim Carrey Is Ready To ‘Kick-Ass’ Too

One of the major highlights of the original Kick-Ass was the spot on performance by Nicolas Cage. His presence and manic energy brought something to the table the helped tie the film together. Unfortunately, spoiler warning, Nic Cage’s Big Daddy had to die and now the sequel needs to find some one to replace the hole he left.

Nic Cage is one mighty hole to fill, sure there are bigger and better actors, but so few can fill a void left by Cage at his finest. Well the casting gods have worked their magic and found someone who might just be up for the task, Jim Carrey. Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar recently took to his website to share his thoughts on the news:

…the energy Jim’s going to bring to Colonel Stars has me buzzing as much as Nic Cage with Big Daddy. You have to remember that Big Daddy’s role before Cage came on was a much more straightforward bad-ass. It was Nic who gave him that Adam West delivery and brought this incredible warmth to the character, especially with regard to Mindy.

Kick-Ass was a favorite for a lot of us here at The Flickcast, so this casting has caused a great deal of excitement. Which the film needs more of because even though they are bringing almost everyone else back for the film, director Matthew Vaughn will not be back. He will be to busy shooting X-Men: Days of Future Past, a statement that in and of itself also causes great excitement ’round these parts.
