Nic Cage Is At It Again In the New Trailer for ‘Stolen’

Nic Cage! Boom! He wants to find some rockets! Now that we have your attention (although that last bit was from a different movie, sorry) we’ve got a trailer for Cage’s upcoming movie Stolen to share with you today.

In Stolen, Cage re-teams with Con-Air director Simon West for this “fast paced action thriller set during Mardi Gras in New Orleans.” In the film Cage plays Will Montgomery, “a master thief who after being double-crossed in a heist gone awry is sent to prison for 8 years. Upon his release he’s ready to leave his criminal past behind and try to rebuild a relationship with his estranged daughter Allison.”

“The FBI and his old cohorts believe that he hid the loot from the last heist 8 years ago, $10 Million in Bonds. To get his hands on it, his old partner VINCENT kidnaps Allison and demands the entire $ 10 Million as ransom. Montgomery only has one day to get the $10 Million ransom. He must trust his instincts and his old partner in crime, the beautiful, sexy and smart RILEY, to do one more, clever heist to get his daughter back alive before it’s too late.”

The Seventh Season of ‘Doctor Who’ Set To Launch In September

Say what you will about American TV structure vs. our brethren across the pond, but when it comes to the big time shows you usually know what and when you are getting them. One of the biggest shows on BBC is, of course, Doctor Who and up until now we have only had a vague sense of when it was returning.

It was announced that the seventh season premiere will air on Saturday September 1st. As of now this is only official for the BBC broadcast, but starting last year the show aired day and date with BBC America, and there is no indication that will change now. The seventh season begins with a five episode run before it fractures around Christmas, allowing the second half to play out in 2013.

In addition to the air date, BBC also released the official synopsis for the first three episodes:

Episode 1: Asylum of the Daleks

“Kidnapped by his oldest foe, the Doctor is forced on an impossible mission – to a place even the Daleks are too terrified to enter… the Asylum. A planetary prison confining the most terrifying and insane of their kind, the Doctor and the Ponds must find an escape route. But with Amy and Rory’s relationship in meltdown, and an army of mad Daleks closing in, it is up to the Doctor to save their lives, as well as the Ponds’ marriage.”

You can check out the other two after the jump.

Kickstarter Watch: ‘Planetary Annihilation’

One of the great things about Kickstarter is that varied levels game design that come forth from its plethora of projects. While some games are simple iOS titles that can be funded for less than a year’s tuition at a prestigious university, others are incredibly ambitious projects that a publisher might not yet have the faith in backing yet. A perfect example of that is Planetary Annihilation.

When you look at the Kickstarter trailer below for Planetary Annihilation, you’ll see this isn’t like just any other RTS. From the team that brought Total Annihilation and Monday Night Combat, Uber Entertainment Inc realized that the RTS genre isn’t one that publishers were flocking towards but knew that there are still hardcore fans who want more than just the few big budget titles that are currently on shelves.

One thing that stood out to them was that even though a lot of futuristic RTS games took place in space, they were scaled down battles with a focus on a few small units of characters. Planetary Annihilation will have players traveling through planets, on to moons, into asteroid belts and even destroying planets

New Teaser for Season 2 of Showtime’s ‘Homeland’ Arrives

When we first heard about Showtime’s drama Homeland we have to admit we were a tiny bit skeptical. The truth is we had a bit of a hard time imagining Claire Danes as a CIA analyst gone rogue.

Fortunately, after watching the first few minutes of the first episode, we realized how wrong we were. She kills it, as do the rest of the cast, writers and everyone involved in this excellent show. Soon, the award-winning Homeland will be back for a second season and Showtime has released a new teaser for that season to help get you excited for it.

In it we see the return of our favorite cast members: Claire Danes is back in action, this time both as a blonde and a brunette, joined by Damian Lewis and Mandy Patinkin. Looks awesome and we cant’t wait.

Homeland season 2 premieres September 30th on Showtime. Click through for the video.

Movie Review: ‘2 Days in New York’

Reprising her role as Marion from 2007’s 2 Days in Paris, Julie Delpy directs, stars in, writes, edits, and possibly caters this sequel. Marion’s an artist living in New York with her partner Mingus (Chris Rock) and their two children from previous relationships.

Marion’s family, specifically her father Jeannot (played by Delpy’s actual father Albert), her sister Rose (Alexia Landeau), and Rose’s uninvited and unwelcome boyfriend Manu (Alexandre Nahon) come to visit for what quickly devolves into an endless weekend, made unbearable for Marion thanks to their numerous quirks.

Jeannot, for example, wanders about the big city like a child, keying cars, mistaking a massage for…something else, and getting held up at customs for attempting to smuggle 30 pounds of sausage. Rose cannot open her mouth without making a snide comment to or criticism of her sister, and Manu is simply the kind of person with no qualms about inviting a drug-dealer to Marion’s apartment for a quick score of weed.

Against the screwball antics of her family is the backdrop of Marion’s upcoming art show, where she plans to auction off her soul to the highest bidder. It’s casually referred to throughout the film but drives the final act, and I mention it here mainly because the joke of her soul not fetching much and the person buying it were my favorites.

‘Game of Thrones’ Brings In Caesar To Play The King Beyond The Wall

Rome was an incredible show on HBO. It was big, it was bloody and it was epic. In a lot of ways it was a spiritual forebearer of Game of Thrones, which is currently the best thing ever. So there is a nice symmetry in the most recent casting addition to Thrones season 3.

Entertainment Weekly was able to score the exclusive news that veteran character actor Ciarán Hinds has signed on to one of the big new roles for the upcoming season:

The Rome actor has been cast as Wildling leader Mance Rayder, the King Beyond the Wall. Rayder has united the disparate clans of the Far North behind a single mission: To attack The Wall. He’s been frequently referenced (though unseen) in the HBO hit fantasy drama’s first two seasons.

Ciarán Hinds has some serious gravitas, so the show might regain some of the heft that has been missing since the dear departing of the one and only Sean Bean.

Not content to just bring in Caesar to the world of Westeros, Brutus from Rome has previously been cast in a prominent role in the next season as well.  Et tu Brute indeed!

Keep your eyes peeled to The Flickcast for any more updates that spill from the upcoming filming of the new season of Game of Thrones.

Why Spider-Man is the Heart of Marvel Comics

Look at the stack of comics in your room, the long boxes you have in storage or the trades sitting on your bookshelf. Think hard before you answer. Who is the one character you have felt the most genuine emotional connection to since the first time you picked up an issue off the spinner rack all those years ago?

Now we know this isn’t going to apply to everyone. Some readers may have shared a similar tragedy or suffered a similar injustice to a particular character. But, for the most part, a character that has shared more moments with the reader than any other is Spider-Man. But why is that?

For older readers, Peter Parker is one of the most identifiable because we have grown up with him. Whether you started reading Spider-Man in high school days, his Empire State University days, or his young adulthood, writers have given us the chance to see a character grow and mature as he comes of age. Thor has always been an ageless god.

Captain America has always been the guy who was from World War II who just hasn’t physically aged. But not Peter Parker. Peter had to balance a social and scholastic life in addition to being a hero. He had to worry about finding a job and paying rent. He didn’t get to just sit back in a mansion with the Avengers in the early part of his career.
