SDCC 2012: Activision Rumored to Reveal ‘Hit Monkey’ as Next Marvel Gaming Property

There have been rumblings all week leading up to the Marvel Games panel taking place this Saturday at San Diego Comic Con. Activision has stated they will reveal a new Marvel game from the team at High Moon Studios, the same team currently working on Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. The team at Beenox has held the reigns strong for the Spider-Man franchise and there hasn’t been any word on a new X-Men game since X-Men Destiny. Could it have been a post movie release tie-in to the Avengers franchise that THQ had abandoned?

The rumor going around the interwebs right now is a pretty shocking one as it is a character that not many people are even familiar with. Created in 2010 by Daniel Way, Hit Monkey has found his way into crossing paths with some of Marvel’s most iconic characters such as Spider-Man and Deadpool. Supposedly, earlier in the week a website was preemptively published http://hitmonkeygame.com/ which contained a teaser image for the game. The site has since been pulled down.

Despite the character’s lack of mainstream popularity, Hit Monkey actually offers players a lot of gaming opportunities in line with what Activision has successfully published. While the FPS genre is still Activision’s bread and butter, the team at High Moon Studios has had success with the third person gameplay of Transformers. Considering the high acrobatics of Hit Monkey on top of the gunplay, this certainly seems like a reasonable possibility.

SDCC12: ‘Firefly’ Getting Reunion TV Special, Filming at Comic-Con

Hey, nobody would be happier than we would if Firefly came back to TV. Or, if they did another movie sequel or prequel to Serenity. Sadly, even though Josss Whedon is a huge success with Avengers, we don’t think either of those is a real possibility.

However, that isn’t stopping Science Channel, which runs the original Firefly series pretty much every day, from doing a new TV special about the show. That’s right, to celebrate the cult-classic’s 10th anniversary, the channel is shooting said one-hour special, called Browncoats Unite, at the the Firefly cast reunion at Comic-Con this week.

“Firefly is a landmark work of science fiction and a favorite with our viewers,” said Debbie Myers, general manager and executive vp of Science. “Ever since it premiered on Science, fans have asked us to do something special to mark its 10-year anniversary. With this signature celebration, punctuated by Browncoats Unite, we will connect the minds behind this classic franchise with its legions of passionate fans.”

Joss Whedon and Nathan Fillion are expected to appear on Friday’s panel. In addition, Alan Tudyk, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher and writer Tim Minear are also expected. Browncoats Unite will air on Science, along with an all-day marathon of Firefly episodes, on Sunday, Nov. 11.

SDCC12: Activision Announces Full Comic-Con Slate of Events

Say what you will about Comic-Con becoming more commercial and getting away from its comic book roots, but other types of entertainment are going to be there this year (as they were in years past) and they don’t look to be going anywhere. It’s just a fact everyone needs to get used to.

One of the things Comic-Con attendees need to get used to is the presence of video game companies at the event. To be perfectly honest, we love video games and have no problem with them being at Comic-Con — especially if they come from our friends at Activision.

The company has announced a whole slew of events taking place during the Con and we’ve got all the info for you right here. So, to get you ready for all the action, read on for the official press release. And yes, we realize they don’t specifically mention Call of Duty: Black Ops II below but we love the game, so we put up the pic. Deal with it.

Latest ‘Total Recall’ Clip with Colin Farrell Makes Us More Interested In the Movie

The more we see of the Total Recall reboot the more it’s starting to look pretty decent. And let’s face it, even though the orignal Arnold version was fun and has become somewhat of a cult classic, it isn’t exactly a great movie.

We love it for its campy acting, over-the-top violence and, let’s face it, for the chick with the three boobs. This new one looks to take things a bit more seriously and make it all a bit darker. We don’t have a problem with that.

There’s a new clip from the movie out today featuring star Colin Farrell. We’ve got it for you after the break. Before that, in case you’re not familiar with the new movie’s story, here’s how it goes:

For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen, the leader of the free world Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter to find the head of the underground resistance and stop Cohaagen.

Look for Total Recall to hit theaters on August 3rd.

Google Updates Google+ App, Includes Full iPad Support

Even though some may have decided Google+ is a vast waseland with nothing to offer, I disagree. In fact, I often find more interesting discussion on G+ than I do on Facebook or Twitter.

Not to say that my friends on Facebook or Twitter don’t have anything interesting to say, they do and often. It’s just that Google+ users tend to go more in depth on subjects and I’ve particularly liked the level of interaction you can have with people there.

But up until now, one thing has been missing: Google+ on the iPad. Fortunately, that’s a problem no more as Google has today released an updated version of the G+ app for iOS which includes full iPad support. It’s pretty much the same as what you get on Android and looks great when combined with the iPad’s retina display.

The Google+ update is available via the iTunes App Store now. Go get it.

Game Review: ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ for XBox 360

After Batman: Arkham City last year (which was up for Game of the Year here on the Flickcast) set the bar so high for super hero video games, it took a special kind of hero to get us pumped for the next big thing in super hero gaming. And while the movie-tie in (another stigma this game was forced to overcome) doesn’t set new bars for comic book games, it does bring back some of the best things in Spider-Man gaming of the past ten years to give players the Spider-Man experience they have grown to love and crave.

Gameplay

How many times can you swing through a digital New York as everyone’s favorite webslinger before it starts to get old? Last time we checked The Amazing Spider-Man was the fifth time a full virtual Manhattan was available to players to traverse over the course of a Spider-Man game and yet somehow Beenox has managed to find a way to not only keep it engaging but also has added elements to make it even more exciting. In The Amazing SpiderMan, there is an element of speed in the way that Spider-Man travels from one location to the other both in the visual design choices and in the addition of the “Web Rush” feature.
