Brand New ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2’ Teaser Arrives

If you’re a tween girl you probably already know today is Edward Cullen’s pretend 111th birthday. In honor of that Summit has released a new teaser trailer for the upcoming The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. That’s a mouthful. Can’t wait until we don’t have to write that anymore.

Anyway, in it we see more of the story that features the final battle between our ragtag band of vampires and werewolves and the Volturi as well as Jacob getting interested in Edward and Bella’s daughter. Which, to be honest, is kinda weird. Well, we think so at least. But then again, we’re not thirteen anymore.

Even with all that the actual movie doesn’t (dare we say it?) look all that bad. Check out the teaser after the break and judge for yourself. Look for the final (for now) cinematic installment of the Twilight Saga to hit theaters on November 16.

A Very Effective New Trailer For ‘V/H/S’ Hits The Web

Found footage films are a mixed bag. Sometimes they can be compelling, but most of the time they are one note gimmicks stretched to the length of a feature film. The recent explosion of found footage films has been for the most part rather underwhelming. Only the recent Chronicle, and maybe the first Paranormal Activity, had a compelling angle and worthwhile story.

Later this year V/H/S looks to bring a novel new twist to the sub-genre and the new trailer sells the concept well. For those of you just hearing about this indie horror film for the first time, here is the synopsis:

When a group of petty criminals is hired by a mysterious party to retrieve a rare piece of found footage from a rundown house in the middle of nowhere, they soon realize that the job isn’t going to be as easy as they thought. In the living room, a lifeless body holds court before a hub of old television sets, surrounded by stacks upon stacks of VHS tapes. As they search for the right one, they are treated to a seemingly endless number of horrifying videos, each stranger than the last.

One great way of avoiding the ‘single gimmick stretched to thin’ pitfall is to divide up your movie, and the structure of V/H/S even manages to do that in an interesting way.

The film hits VOD in August and theaters in October, and be sure to check out the trailer after the jump.

What Would ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Look Like Today?

This is a question posed by the guys over at Blumasters.  The team there didn’t look to reinvent the wheel by introducing new gameplay mechanics but instead took the base premise of the original Super Mario Bros. and just updated the visuals of it. Every now and then, a fan made film or tech demo comes along that recaptures the magic and intrigue of the original title it was based on and this is one of them.

In this modern take of Super Mario Bros., there are updated sound effects and visual that reflect the state of gaming today. Sound effects are as realistic as possible while the imagery goes over the top when possible. Blocks explode when Mario smashes his head into them and the fires burn realistically once Mario grabs his favorite power up. And there is even an awesome ending to cap off the infamous world 1-1, probably the most played stage in all of gaming history.

Take a peek after the jump and stick to The Flickcast for all your gaming related news.

The First Image of Angelina Jolie As The Titular Evil Witch From ‘Maleficent’

Fairy Tales are all the rage these days, and it seems like Hollywood finally realized that these very old tales are built on the fact that they can be told in different ways. Recently we saw two different takes on Snow White, each that stretched the concept of the character to new places, both of which were fun in their own right.

Disney is the brand name when it comes to modern storytelling, but even they have gotten into the re-telling game, most notably the excellent TV show Once Upon a Time and the upcoming film Maleficent. The latter started shooting recently, and Disney decided it was time to show off their lead in costume.

Maleficent, for those not still familiar with their fairy tale mythos, is the villain from Sleeping Beauty who has the rather awesome ability to turn into a dragon. This upcoming film swaps the traditional perspective of the Sleeping Beauty tale and lets us see things from the evil side of the story.

Angelina Jolie plays Maleficent and if you didn’t think she was perfect for the role on paper, this new picture has to cement it for you. Jolie has a chance to really dig deep into the role and deliver something akin to what Charlize Theron did in Snow White and the Huntsman, a pitch perfect, bug-nutter crazy bitch with a cold, calculating evil streak. AKA, Cinema gold!

Leaked Document Supposedly Detailing Microsoft’s XBox 720 Roadmap Removed from Website

Towards the end of last week, a document found its way to the site Scribd, which acts as a host to tons of online files such as press releases, manuals, books or pretty much any other text based file. This 56 page document detailed a supposed 5 year plan of Microsoft’s for the end of the XBox 360’s lifecycle and beginning of a new console generation in 2013. Since being leaked, this still unconfirmed document has been removed.

When you attempt to go to any links to the document, it says it has been removed by the request of Covington & Burling LLP, a business and corporate law firm. The removal of this document could be a sign about some of the validity to items within it.

In the document, some important things of note were both a date and price for the upcoming console. The document talks about a new console launching in 2013 (presumably in the fall since there was no mention of a console at this year’s E3 from Microsoft) at a $299 price point with an updated version of Kinect. This Kinect will supposedly have improved functionality and support up to four players if plans pan out.

Microsoft Announces Surface Tablet

Today at an event held in Los Angeles, Microsoft announced a new series of devices designed to take on Apple’s tablet dominance with the iPad. The new tablet, called Surface, is an Xbox-focused slate that merges entertainment, gaming and high-definition output into a 7-inch tablet complete with optional, extremely thin, keyboard cover.

“Surface fulfills the dream of working anywhere,” Microsoft said of the 9.3-millimeter thick tablet, which includes a magnesium case that weighs less than 1.5 pounds. It also features an integrated stand to prop the device up while watching videos or typing on a Bluetooth keyboard and is powered by an Intel Ivy Bridge i5 processor for the Windows 8 Pro version and an Nvidia ARM processor for the Windows RT version.

Both Surface models feature a Gorilla Glass 2 screen and include a magnetic connector to hold a case, like the one with the keyboard. It will ship with several popular Microsoft apps, including Xbox live, and will also include a Netflix app as well. In addition, the Surface has USB 2.0 and HDMI-out as well as rear and front-facing cameras.

First ‘Taken 2’ Poster Sheds A Little Light On The Sequel’s Plot

Taken is one of those films that just works in every way. From concept, to casting, all the way to the score and even the title, it just all works so very well. Good movies do not go unsequelized in this day and age so of course Taken 2 is coming, and the first UK poster has just hit the web.

The first film revolved around Liam Neeson’s character going after his kidnapped daughter, there was some concern that the sequel might just be some sort of re-hash on the original concept. Based on the poster’s tagline we might be seeing a far more interesting take on the idea:

First they took his daughter. Now they’re coming for him.

It would have been really easy, and lazy, for the writers to have the baddies from the first film exact their revenge by taking more members of Neeson’s family. It makes much more sense to see those baddies go directly after Neeson himself.

As the film is called Taken 2, I’m sure there will be some layer of kidnapping somewhere in the story, but if the focus is less on Neeson using his skills to retrieve another loved one and more on him being the target we could be a in for a quality action sequel on the way.

Take a look at the full UK poster after the jump.
