New Android Commercial Reminds You That Your Data Has Always Been In the Cloud

When you think of companies who innovate and come out with compelling new features ahead of the competition, Apple may spring to mind as a leader in that area. However, as this new commercial from Android seeks to remind you, Apple isn’t always first with new, innovative concepts and products.

In fact, where the “cloud” is concerned at least, it would seem Apple is well behind another upstart tech company: Google. Today’s newly released Galaxy Nexus/Android commercial highlights that idea. In a nutshell, the commercial reminds users (and potential users) that you don’t need a separate “cloud” service add-on to take advantage of those features in an Android/Google world, you just need an account. An account you probably already have.

To take advantage of this service, simply sign-in to your Google account on your Android phone and you have access to it all: email, contacts, calendars, browser info, and more. It’s really that simple.

Let’s face it, Apple is a great company that does a lot of things well. Sadly, they haven’t ever really gotten the whole “cloud” thing right. Not with .mac, not with Mobile Me and not really with iCloud either. Google, on the other hand, has done a great job and was pretty much there from the beginning before the “cloud” was even a thing. Let’s give credit where credit is due. Google does it right.

Check out the new commercial after the break.

Check It Out: Bonus Scenes from Last Night’s ‘Eureka’ and ‘Lost Girl’ Plus Previews of Next Week

We probably don’t give enough attention to shows like Eureka and Lost Girl. With Eureka, you’ve got a show that’s been on for several seasons yet still manages to deliver great characters and compelling episodes as it leads up to it’s series finale.

Then, there’s Lost Girl. A fairly new show on Syfy that even from the beginning looked to be an interesting mix of genres and features interesting characters and situations. Plus, the lead character is a succubus who feeds off of people’s sexual energy, so there’s that.

Anyway, both shows had brand new episodes last night on Syfy and we’ve got bonus scenes from both of them to share with you today. In addition, we’ve also got previews for next week’s all new episodes of both shows too.

No, no need to thank us. We do it because we love you. Check out all the videos after the jump and look for Eureka and Lost Girl next Monday starting at 9/8C on Syfy.

‘Angry Birds Space’ Tops 50 Million Downloads

Say what you will about the Angry Birds franchise of games and its relative merits, it looks like it’s here to stay. How do we know?

Well, the company that produces the series of games, Rovio, announced on Monday that the company’s latest Angry Birds installment, Angry Birds Space, has been downloaded 50 Million times in just 35 days, making it the fastest growing mobile game of all time. In the same announcement the company also hinted that “something even bigger is on its way.” What that is, we can’t imagine. The Pigs strike back perhaps? We’ll see.

If you haven’t had a chance to play Angry Birds Space yet, you should. It was released on March 22 for iOS, Android, Mac OS X and Windows so you should have no trouble finding a platform to enjoy it on. Besides, it’s quite fun to play.

In fact, we would go so far to say it’s probably the most fun of the Angry Birds franchise since the original. For more on the game, check out the video after the break.

Full Trailer for ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Hits The Web

Though we know you aren’t dragging your heels to see Marvel’s The Avengers this weekend, one thing you don’t have to wait till then to enjoy is the brand new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s “final” film in his Batman trilogy, Dark Knight Rises.

The trailer is set to hit at the beginning of Marvel’s superhero mashup flick this weekend, but the marketing gurus at WB thought it wouldn’t hurt much if the trailer was released a few days early.

Up until now, we haven’t gotten much of the film’s plot, outside of the fact that we know Bane, Catwoman, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were all in the film. Now, we’re getting a bit more of the substance, as to what happens to Bale’s Bruce Wayne, what Catwoman’s role is like, and why Gordon-Levitt is always looking so surprised.

Check out the trailer right after the jump, and be sure to catch Dark Knight Rises in theaters just after Comic-Con, on July 20th.

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Will Feature a Number of Well Known Video Game Character Cameos

One of the most endearing parts of Who Framed Roger Rabbit was the imagined world where Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse were denizens of the same  world. It was a real thrill to see classic animated characters from multiple companies come together for one film.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Disney is at it again with their new film Wreck-It Ralph:

The movie features other spoofs of real-life games: Glee‘s Jane Lynch is a Sarge-like figure (Halo) in a sci-fi first-person shooter called Hero’s Duty, and comedian Sarah Silverman voices cutie-pie Vanellope Von Schweetz in a dessert-themed Mario Kart-style racing game called Sugar Rush.

But before Ralph ventures into those worlds, we find him confessing his woes in a support group for fellow videogame villains, and that’s where the first big cameos begin.

So on top of spoofs, the movie will also see actual cameos for famous video game characters. The EW article goes on to name a who’s who of classic villains, including Dr. Robotnik and Bowser. Does this foreshadow an appearance by two of the most famous video game mascots ever, Mario and Sonic?

What is also interesting is that it appears that a zombie, potentially from the Resident Evil universe, also appears. The truth of the video game industry is that there are a lot of mature titles and franchises that kids are drawn too, would a Disney animated feature call reference to them? You can find out when Wreck-It Ralph hits cinemas this winter.

Microsoft Invests $300 Million in Barnes & Noble and the Nook

In what will most likely amount to very little when competing with the dominance of the iPad and Kindle, Microsoft and Barnes & Noble today announced the formation of a new partnership. Said partnership will combine B&N’s Nook and College business into an as yet unmamed subsidiary with Microsoft investing $300 Million to help get it up and running.

“The formation of [this new subsidiary] and our relationship with Microsoft are important parts of our strategy to capitalize on the rapid growth of the NOOK business, and to solidify our position as a leader in the exploding market for digital content in the consumer and education segments,” said William Lynch, CEO of Barnes & Noble. “Microsoft’s investment in Newco, and our exciting collaboration to bring world-class digital reading technologies and content to the Windows platform and its hundreds of millions of users, will allow us to significantly expand the business.”

That sounds good. Snarky comment at the top of this post aside, as much as we like Apple and its products around here, a little competition is good for everyone — especially consumers. So, we wish Microsoft and B&N luck with their new Nook adventure.

For me details, check out Barnes & Noble’s full press release after the break.

We’re In: New Trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s ‘The Newsroom’ Makes Us Believe

We’ve been following Aaron Sorkin’s career since the days of A Few Good Men and Sport Night. Loved that show. Then, of course, he went on to create The West Wing and later win the Academy Award for writing The Social Network.

Now he’s back on TV, at HBO this time around, and preparing to launch a new show called The Newsroom. We brought you the first trailer for the show recently and now, there’s a brand new one we want to share with you today.

In it we get to know the band of optimists and crusaders that will make up the new show and see a bit more of the ironic humor Sorkin is famous for. Sure, some of you may think this looks an awful lot like Sorkin’s Sports Night.

Even if it does have quite a few similarities, that isn’t a bad thing because, as we said above, Sports Night was a pretty great show that we loved. So, let’s just think of this one as Sports Night 2.0 with swearing and the potential for nudity and sex.

Not a bad threesome. Not at all. Check out the trailer after the break. The Newsroom premieres on HBO in June.
