SDCC 11: La La Land Records Plans Future ‘Star Trek’ TV Soundtrack Releases

Here at Comic-Con in San Diego La La Land Records just released a brand new limited edition 3-disc set featuring music from Star Trek: The Next Generation. The set looks fantastic, and I for one can’t wait to sit down with it after the show.

But now the masterminds at La La are already thinking about their next Trek TV release.

“We plan on definitely doing at least one more volume of this, we have left overs from this. And Deep Space Nine will probably come next,” says MV Gerhard of La La Land Records.

“Of all the shows, I think that was probably the best of the series, of the new stuff, and also very neglected in previous release”

So provided the sales for the first Star Trek set are good, and so far they are looking that way, we should be looking at a Deep Space Nine set next. This is particularly exciting news for fans of the series who have long clamored for a release of the stellar music composed for Deep Space Nine.

The Trek TV fun might not even stop there, with all of the Trek shows on La La Land’s radar we could be seeing sets like these coming out for a while, and it wont be just Trekkies that benefit from that.

Film Score Friday: Top 10 Comic Book Movie Scores of All Time

It’s Comic-Con! Hurray!

In honor of this geek-stravaganza, today’s Film Score Friday is taking a break from the standard review and instead going through the top ten comic book scores of all time. So without further adieu, I present to you the top ten comic book scores of all time:

10. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

Scott Pilgrim is a melting pot of geekdom. Mixing together video games, movies, TV, comics, music and many more into a singular generational experience. The movie has so much going on in it that the references and structure starts to bleed in on itself, making a seamless cinematic experience. A huge part of that is the music, which flows between songs and score better than almost any film before. The score bit in particular is what makes this list, making use of some great digital sounds that fit the movie like a glove.

SDCC11 Interview: Bruce Campbell Talks ‘The Fall of Sam Axe’, ‘My Name is Bruce 2’, & The Infamous ‘Evil Dead’ Reboot

There are only a few names that pop up every year like clockwork at San Diego Comic-Con. One of the names that has always been on the tips of fanboys’ tongues is Bruce Campbell.

The man’s been on top of his game as the featured sidekick in USA’s Burn Notice and now he’s getting his very own stand-alone film as the same character in The Fall of Sam Axe.

The film stars Campbell as Axe and follows the life of this now wise-cracking, often lazy sidekick. We got the chance to discuss Bruce stepping back into the limelight on TV as well as his problems with the script for My Name is Bruce 2 and exactly what his role is going to be in the upcoming Evil Dead reboot by Raimi and apparently Diablo Cody.

Not only will you be surprised by the role that Campbell has in the upcoming reboot, you’ll hear exactly why we’ll be waiting so long to get that sequel to My Name is Bruce.

Take a look at our exclusive interview after the jump, and catch The Fall of Sam Axe on Blu-Ray and standard DVD now.

SDCC11: The ‘Star Wars’ Saga Deleted Scenes Trailer

With the Blu-Ray release of the Star Wars saga coming this September, 20th Century Fox is titillating fans with a sneak peek at some of the extras, including this trailer of some footage cut from the original trilogy.

The clip shows a handful of glimpses at some deleted scenes, including the “wampas in the Hoth base” sequence. These aren’t from the digitally remastered/Greedo-shoots-first editions released in the late ‘90s; these are from the original original films, right down to the ‘70s film grain—and that’s not to say they look fuzzy. They’re as crisp and good-looking as you could want.

Fox plans to release Blu-Ray editions of both the original trilogy as well as the prequels and, for the fans who need every damn thing, a whopping nine-disc Complete Saga edition that will include over 30 hours of special features from deleted and alternative scenes like these to, well, pretty much anything else George has lying around in the archives.

You can view the trailer after the jump.

Doc Review: ‘Project Nim’

My initial feeling upon leaving Project Nim was something akin to Werner Herzog’s closing monologue in Grizzly Man—I felt nothing for the animal. While others looked into Nim’s eyes and saw flickers of humanity, depth, tenderness, all I could see was its cold instinct. Every hug was punctuated by either a vicious bite or a beg for food.

There was no instance of it sharing or displaying any concern for its companions unless it was for Nim’s own selfish benefit. The best that can be said for it is that the creature’s offenses can be excused because it is, after all, a wild animal.

Nim is Nim Chimpsky, a chimpanzee taken from his mother at birth (and the Oklahoma chimp farm where he was born) and made the subject of Herbert Terrace’s, Columbia professor of Primate Studies, experiment. Terrace wanted to see if a chimp raised as a human child and taught sign language could converse with other humans.
