The Flickcast – Page 442 of 1030 – Stuff Nerds Love

Happy Memorial Day 2011

It’s a holiday here in the United States and a day we remember all the men and women of our armed forces who’ve paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Because of this and because we like to let the writers have some time off occasionally, we’ll have a reduced posting schedule today and will resume our normal schedule tomorrow.

To our readers in the U.S., have a great holiday. For the rest of you from other countries, thanks for reading and we’ll see you tomorrow when everything is back to normal around here. Well, as normal as it gets anyway.

Family Guy’s Emmy Plea, Inception/Tron Mashup, & A Wolverine Fan Film are all On The Radar

Welcome to another edition of On the Radar where we delve into all corners of the entertainment, tech and geek Internets for news, views and whatnot that may have escaped our regular coverage during the week. Let is know if we missed something interesting.

Let’s get started!

• Supercut of the week: Every time Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet call out “Jack!” and “Kate!” in 1994’s Titanic. Hint: it’s more than you think.

• Got a free afternoon or 6? Try to hunt down and watch all 50 of the most insane B-Movies out there. Surprisingly, most of them are already on Instant Netflix.

• If you love reading/writing scripts, then you probably don’t have the money for an iPad. If you did, you’d want the FDX Reader, the first-ever script reader for Apple’s tablet.

• We may have written up something about this in the past, but this fan film about Wolverine Vs. The Hand is pretty spot-on. If only Hugh Jackman wasn’t too busy fighting robots, he could work on a script like this.

• Fox’s Family Guy is tired of being that hot girl who you won’t date. They’re now marketing to fight for an Emmy, of which they currently have none.

Check Out Two New Previews for Sunday’s Episode of ‘Game of Thrones’

As we have for the last few weeks this week we have some more clips for HBO’s Game of Thrones to share with you today. These new clips are from Sunday’s all-new episode entitled “You Win or You Die.”

In them we see a bit of the action and drama that will take place during Sunday’s episode. Here’s some description to get you in the mood:

Explaining that the future of the Lannisters is at stake, Tywin (Charles Dance) presses Jaime to “be the man you were meant to be” as they prepare for battle. Ned confronts Cersei about the secrets that killed Jon Arryn.

With the fate of the missing Benjen (Joseph Mawle) very much on his mind, Jon Snow takes his Night’s Watch vows, though not with the assignment he coveted. After Ser Jorah (Iain Glenn) saves Daenerys from treachery, an enraged Drogo vows to lead the Dothraki where they’ve never gone before. An injured Robert takes pains to ensure an orderly transition at King’s Landing.

Will Ferrell & Zach Galifiniakis Feed Each Other Fruit in a new ‘Between Two Ferns’

While The Hangover Part II is projected to pull in $80 million this weekend, that hasn’t slowed down Zach Galifiniakis in his goal to produce on of the best (and cheapest) internet talk show out there.

On his show, which has been running for over a year now, he’s had guests like Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien, and Michael Cera all join in the awkward hilarity, and now he’s trying to top himself with his newest guest, Will Ferrell.

Straight from the set of The Office as Steve Carell’s temporary replacement, Ferrell stops by Two Ferns to compliment the atmosphere, show some new clips of monkeys, and feed the host fruit from his own mouth. There’s even a surprise appearance by a former guest.

Check out the episode after the jump, and see Galifiniakis in his Bangkok antics this weekend in The Hangover Part II.

Amazon Launches Mac Software Downloads Store

In direct competition with Apple’s own App Store Amazon announced late yesterday the launch of its online store for Mac OS X applications. The store, which features downloads of over 200 different software titles and 51 different games, will go head to head with Apple’s own offering.

Programs such as Microsoft Office, Intuit’s QuickBooks and games such as Dragon Age: Origins and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare are currently available. Customers can quickly purchase and download applications using their Amazon accounts, download the software and get to work. No need to wait for a box to arrive at your doorstep.

In addition, purchases are automatically backed-up in case customers need to reinstall the apps at a later date. This is a nice feature and saves customers from having to hassle with downloading again and also with backing up lots of software installers.

According to the online sales giant the “Mac Download store features an install-less download process where the customer gets just the product without any unwanted extras, making for faster and easier purchases. Plus, downloads are conveniently backed up in your Games and Software Library where you can download an unlimited number of times for personal use.”

Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel Join Colon Farrell In ‘Total Recall’ Reboot

Not that we are in any way endorsing the reboot/remake of Total Recall but with two hot actresses now joining the cast, we have to at least mention it. So, here it is. With Colin Farrell already taking over the role originated by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the film and Bryan Cranston onboard as the evil nemesis, the next question has always been who would be playing the female leads?

Well, now we know. Kate Beckinsale has officially been cast as Lori, the bitchy wife of Douglas Quaid (Farrell) in the “real” world, while Jessica Biel will play sleazy and demure Melina, the woman he meets in his “other” life as a spy. The roles were played by Sharon Stone and Rachel Ticotin in the 1990 original.

In addition to the women, Heat Vision says Bill Nighy has landed the part of Quatto, the leader of the resistance movement. So, with Beckensale and Nighy in place that’s quite an Underworld reunion director Len Wiseman’s got going on. Oh well, he is in charge and if my wife was that hot I would probably cast her in my movies too.

I do have a question about Quatto though. Will he be a mutant and will he lead a resistance? According to reports, the new version of the story will not take place on Mars like Philip K. Dick’s original or the 1990 film.
