Brand New Trailer For ‘Priest’ May Just Blow Your Mind

This year’s summer blockbuster season is over, which means only one thing…it’s time to start getting excited for next year’s Summer Blockbuster season! We’ve already seen the first trailer for Thor and some cool set pics from Captain America: The First Avenger, and now we’re getting the very first full theatrical trailer for the sci-fi explosion Priest, starring Paul Bettany and Karl Urban.

The film may look a bit like other movies in the genre such as Constantine or I Am Legend, but with the amount of star power and visual effects that have been poured into this film, you can expect to see something completely different.

With that comes the newest trailer for the flick, which gives us plenty of new action shots of both protagonist Paul Bettany, antagonist Karl Urban, love interest Maggie Q and even True Blood’s Stephen Moyer in his first major film role since becoming the character of Bill Compton.

Redbox Reaches One Billion Rental Milestone

Just six years after making its debut, redbox has rented its one billionth movie.  On Sunday, September 5th, a kiosk in Tampa, Florida dispensed Clash of the Titans, which officially became the company’s billionth rental.

To celebrate the milestone, redbox is having a “Thanks a Billion” celebration. Redbox renters will receive a free rental, and can enter a contest for prizes. Here are the details:

“Throughout the month of September, eligible redbox renters can enter the unique DVD code found on their redbox rental at redbox.com/thanks to receive a promotional code good for a free, one-night rental. Renters also will be entered to win the “Thanks a Billion” grand prize – a choice between a trip to the People’s Choice Awards®or a Sony® Home Entertainment Theatre System. The nationwide “Thanks a Billion” celebration runs from Sept. 1 to Sept. 30, 2010. Log on to redbox.com/thanks for complete rules and details*, as well as complete odds of winning and prize descriptions.”

Redbox started out with a locations in Denver, Colorado, and have now expanded to over 24,000 locataions nationwide.  The company rents over 9.5 million DVDs and Blu-rays a week, and recently added an iPhone app so renters can reserve a movie online.

Fox Searchlight Acquires Terrence Malick’s ‘Tree of Life’

There has been a lot of talk about Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life film of late, and Fox Searchlight has announced that it has acquired the U.S. rights to the highly anticipated film. Tree of Life is written and directed by Malick, who’s past credits include Badlands with Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek back in 1973.

That film went on to become a respected and iconic film about the true life Starkweather-Fugate killing spree in the 1950’s. More recently, Malick directed such films as The Thin Red Line (1998) and The New World (2005.)

Tree of Life stars Brad Pitt and Sean Penn and has been finished for a while (it was first announced back in 2005.) It was originally supposed to appear at the Cannes film festival earlier this year, but was not ready.  Some people were hoping it would debut at Telluride last week since Brad Pitt attended the festival, but it did not.

Now there are some hopes/rumors (unsubstantiated) that it could sneak into Fantastic Fest. Guess we’ll find out in a few weeks.

Check Out a New Behind the Scenes Clip From the ‘Iron Man 2′ Blu-ray

Even though Iron Man 2 wasn’t quite as good as its predecessor, it still managed to entertain and excite enough fans to bring in over $300 Million at the domestic box office. And what follows a terrific box office performance like that (besides a sequel of course)? Why it’s a feature packed Blu-ray DVD release.

To commemorate the pending debut of the three-disc Iron Man 2 on Blu-ray, we’ve got a new behind the scenes video from the release to share with you today. In it you’ll see director Jon Favreau and stars Robert Downey, Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson discuss their characters and the film with screenwriter Justin Theroux. Interesting insight indeed.

Fantastic Fest Adds More Films To Lineup

This month will be a good one for fans of cool and unusual genre films as fantastic Fest kicks off on September 23 in Austin, TX. To enhance their already great lineup the Fest announced more films that will be screening. Here’s all the scoop from the Fest’s official press release:

FANTASTIC FEST 2010 ADDS NEW FILMS TO ITS IMPRESSIVE LINEUP

Fantastic Fest, the largest genre festival in the U.S., is excited to announce additional films to its mind-blowing roster of features & shorts. Highlights of this announcement are the US premiere of the hyper-stylized action film Bunraku, a sneak preview of Darren Bousman’s terrifying new horror-thriller film, Mother’s Day (featuring a bravura performance by Rebecca DeMornay), and the world premiere of Agnosia, the latest film from Fantastic Fest 2005 Alumnus Eugenio Mira.

Additionally, Fantastic Fest will play host to a sneak preview of the highly anticipated action-comedy RED, starring pretty much the best cast assembled for a comic book adaptation…ever. And if you’re not excited to see Helen Mirren at the helm of a .50 caliber machine gun, we don’t want to know you.

Bill Pullman, one of our all-time favorite Fantastic Fest guests is returning to the festival this year. Pullman will join the hecklers of Master Pancake Theater for a special screening of Independence Day and will make an appearance as Lone Star for the Spaceballs Quote-Along.

In celebration of the upcoming book “DESTROY ALL MOVIES!!! The Complete Guide to Punks on Film”, written by Alamo Drafthouse’s own , Zack Carlson, Fantastic Fest will hold a screening of cult classic Class of 1984. Carlson will introduce the film and will sign copies of the book, a massive A-to-Z guide of punks and new wavers on the big screen, featuring 1100 reviews, hundreds of color stills and countless exclusive interviews with filmmakers and musicians!

Lastly, we are announcing a special encore performance of Jason Neulander’s critically-acclaimed Intergalactic Nemesis.

New Clip From ‘I Spit On Your Grave: Unrated’

The remake of 1978 film I Spit on Your Grave (aka The Day of the Woman) is imminent, and we have a brand new clip to show you. When the original  film was released, it was one of the most audacious films of its time, for many reasons.

The movie was about a woman who was brutally assaulted and raped by a group of men who leave her for dead.  She extracts her revenge on the men by tracking down the men one by one and torturing them in horrific ways.

The violence and brutality of the film was shocking on its own, but this was also considered a feminist film by many.  It was very rare to see women commit such atrocities on film at the time.

In this scene, Jennifer (played by Sarah Butler) encounters her tormentors  for the first time at a gas station.  She was hoping to spend some quiet time in the country to finish a novel, but it looks like her plans get derailed rather quickly.

The film also stars Chad Lindberg, Jeff Branson, Daniel Franzese, Rodney Eastman, and Tracey Walter, and is directed by Steven R. Monroe.

I Spit on Your Grave: Unrated is scheduled to be released on October 8 in limited release, but first it will be making a stop at Fantastic Fest. Since we have some staff members attending the festival in Austin, we’ll be able to give you some early thoughts on the film.  Stay tuned.

First Images of Captain America’s WWII Costume Surface

OK, so this one on the right isn’t an  image from the set of the new Captain America: The First Avenger film, but it looks pretty close. After the jump, check out some actual shots of Captain America from the set of the new film, courtesy of Screen Rant.

The images show off Chris Evans’ stunt double in his classic World War II Captain America garb, and even wearing a fashionable Captain America bike helmet. You know, for safety.

We all hope the costume doesn’t turn out looking like this for the entirety of the film, because let’s face it, it’s pretty terrible, and looks more like the costume from the 1978 Incredible Hulk TV movie, in which Cap basically wore an Evel Knievel outfit.

The cool part of these pics is that we also get a look at some of the H.Y.D.R.A. technology, in the form of their cool steampunk-like motorcycles. We can only imagine what the rest will look like, and we’ll more than likely get a look as the film finishes up principal photography in London.

Captain America: The First Avenger is set to hit theaters  July 22, 2011, and also stars Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Stanley Tucci, Tommy Lee Jones, and Sebastian Stan. Check out the full set pics after the jump, and let us know what you think below!

Review: ‘Legendary’

The latest release from WWE Studios, Legendary stars WWE star and corporate mascot John Cena alongside Patricia Clarkson, Devon Graye and Danny Glover in the most heartfelt film the company has been a part of. Devon plays the role of Cal Chetley, a target for bullies in his small Oklahoma town, who lives with his mother Sharon (Clarkson).

Against his mother’s wishes, Cal decides to join the high school wrestling team despite his small stature as a way to reconnect with the father he barely knew and the brother Mike (Cena) he has rarely seen in the past ten years. Down on his luck and filled with self-loathing, Mike reluctantly begins to train his brother in the ways that made him a championship wrestler which ultimately helps bridge the gap between the two.

It’s hard to hear the premise of Legendary and not begin to see correlations to Rudy. An undersized kid trying to make it in a sport based on physical superiority and muscle mass that only has his heart helping push him forward. Thankfully, WWE Studios pushed past a story just about high school wrestling and added a layer to Cal Chetley and his new obsession.

As a result, there is a lot of emotion behind everything happening that doesn’t feel like a Rudy ripoff. This young man didn’t always dream of being a high school championship wrestler. He just sees it as a way to connect to a past and a family that is so far away from him.

The relationship between older brother Mike and mother Sharon is also incredibly well done. The few times they are on screen together is incredibly uncomfortable as Sharon appears to be in physical pain from being in front of a son that has chosen to stay out of her life for so many years that she never forgave for something that wasn’t even his fault. The deeply conflicted Mike also has some great scenes when he is apart from his family that show just how much his grief has consumed his life.
