McG Wants To Direct ‘R.I.P.D.’ Starring Ryan Reynolds

For years we have been teased with the possibility of the Dark Horse comic R.I.P.D. coming to the big screen. Now it looks like it will finally happen.

Super producer Neal Moritz (The Fast and Furious, Green Hornet, Luke Cage, Every other upcoming movie you can think of) has been successful in his talks with the man who is becoming a comic book movie regular, Ryan Reynolds (X-men Origins: Wolverine, Green Lantern, Deadpool) and has gotten him to star in the film. In addition, it appears Moritz has scored again, as now rumored to be joining the project is none other than McG (Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation).

McG is currently working on the troubled  This Means War. Unfortunately, This Means War has been a passion project for McG and now that Fox is backing the film it will be his first priority.

With McG’s history of directing big budget blockbuster movies, the expectation is that Universal is looking to take a risk, with them betting that R.I.P.D. will become a summer blockbuster.

R.I.P.D. (Rest in Peace Department) follows the adventures of two dead cops, one recently deceased and the other who died centuries ago, who police the dead. In addition to Reynolds, rumored for the co-starring role opposite is Zach Galifiniakis.

Do you think McG is the right fit to direct? Who do you think would be better? Sound off and let us know!

Check Out An Exclusive Clip From ‘Evil Dead’ On Blu-ray

There are tons of cult horror films for fans to look back on and cringe, but there are very few that can still be considered solid pieces of cinema. Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead films are easily on the top of that list, and the first of the trilogy is finally getting the Blu-ray treatment, all thanks to Anchor Bay Films.

For the first time, Raimi’s Evil Dead is making it’s high definition debut, with two astounding 1080p anamorphic transfers (1.85 and 1.33 aspect ratio, for you who know what that means). Not only will you get the film with both audio and visual restoration, but the disc also comes with a brand new commentary by Raimi, long-time producer Rob Tapert, and the man himself, Bruce Campbell.

The release also comes with a second disc full of extra features, including:

•    One By One We Will Take You: The Untold Saga of The Evil Dead
•    The Evil Dead: Treasures from the Cutting Room Floor
•    The Ladies Of The Evil Dead Meet Bruce Campbell
•    Book of The Dead: The Other Pages
•    Discovering The Evil Dead
•    Unconventional
•    At The Drive-In

Check out an exclusive clip from the commentary after the jump, in which Bruce Campbell discusses his Viet Nam-like flashbacks he had after finishing the first film. Catch The Evil Dead Blu-ray in stores on August 30th.

New Trailer for ‘Jackass 3D’ Now Online

I know what you’re thinking. What are we, a fairly well respected website that deals with the finest in entertainment news doing bringing you a new trailer for the next Jackass movie? Please bear with me for a moment.

Even though I don’t find all of this necessarily very funny, I know many people do. So, presented without much comment is the latest trailer for the new adventures of a bunch of white guys who like to get hit in the nuts and eat weird shit.

In this one the boys get even crazier, do more dangerous stunts and generally increase the bottom line for various insurance companies. However, I do like the water stunt where someone flips high in the air and people shoot at him with paintball guns. That’s pretty funny.

Check out the new trailer after the break. Look for Jackass 3D to hit you in the balls on October 15th.

SDCC10 Extra: Kinect Hands-On with ‘Kinect Sports’ and ‘Dance Central’

One of the most exciting aspects of working in the industry is the chance to try out new games before the general public does. With those new games sometimes comes the new emerging technologies as well. This year at San Diego Comic Con, Kinect (formerly Project Natal) was available for the press to try out in Microsoft’s private press lounge. While there, I got the chance to try out two of the upcoming Kinect titles, Kinect Sports and Dance Central.

At first glance, many people would look at Kinect Sports and say it is a rip off of Wii Sports. To an extent, their claim is warranted. Kinect Sports is a collection of minigames using the Kinect motion controls centered around various sports. One can’t fault Microsoft for creating this title. It is no secret that Wii Sports helped drive sales of the Wii above the 25 million unit mark to non-traditional video game players. Sony is also producing Sports Champions for the PlayStation Move. It’d be leaving money on the table if Microsoft didn’t capitalize on this trend as well.

The first thing you notice about the Kinect is the lack of tangible feedback. During Kinect Sports, my first instinct was to grasp the bowling ball as my avatar’s hand went over it. The game responds by automatically grabbing the ball, regardless of whether you actually close your hand around it. For a moment, it catches you off guard that you aren’t really holding anything.

Review: ‘The Disappearance of Alice Creed’

The Disappearance of Alice Creed is a twisty, provocative British thriller featuring a breakout performance from Gemma Arterton. You may have caught her in the recent popcorn flicks Prince of Persia or Clash of the Titans, two movies in which she is largely relegated to arm candy for the leading men.

It is refreshing to see the sultry actress show us the  range of her acting prowess. As Alice Creed, she gives a gritty, brave performance  that you won’t soon forget.

The film begins with two men meticulously preparing a room to serve as a temporary housing for a kidnapping victim.  It seems that every tiny detail has been addressed.  The room is soundproofed and padded, the bed is bolted to the floor, and the room has been stripped bare of anything that could be used as weaponry.

The two men don masks and drive an outfitted van to their victim, a one Alice Creed.  Soon, she is shackled to the bed and stripped naked.  It’s a difficult scene to watch, and horribly degrading.

It would be very easy to write off the movie at this early juncture as being yet another torture-porn genre film, but don’t be so quick to judge.  That graphic and frightening scene sets up some interesting plot points for later, and makes better sense after you have the context  of the whole movie behind it.

Fortunately, it is quickly apparent that the men have no interest in Alice sexually.  They cloth her in a jogging suit they provide, and don’t seem to have much interest in actually harming her.  Instead, they want to extort some money from her wealthy father, by making him pay a kidnap ransom.

Exclusive Interview: Jim Lee Talks ‘DC Universe Online’, ‘Suicide Squad’ Video Game

At Comic Con, we got the chance to talk to DC Comics Editor-In-Chief and the Executive Creator Director of DC Universe Online, Jim Lee about the game that everyone around the offices has been clamoring to get a hold of. As you’ll see in the’s interview after the jump, Jim explains what it takes to create such an expansive MMO game. Jim also discusses the newly announced two vs. two simulator mode which allows players the chance to step out of the boots of their own created character and instead play as the iconic heroes of the DC Universe such as Batman or Martian Manhunter.

Lee also discusses the Geoff Johns announcement from the Con for a Suicide Squad video game. Lee describes it was a Dirty Dozen style grittier than your average super hero game. For those who aren’t aware, the Suicide Squad is a team of villains who were put together on a mission where they knew everyone wouldn’t be coming back. It is definitely a darker take on the super hero genre which, if Batman: Arkham Asylum has shown us anything, looks like it is coming out at the right time in this industry.

What you don’t get to see on camera was when Jim mentions to us just how the trailer for the game comes into play. For those who have seen it, the trailer sets up the back-story of why a Luthor from the future comes back and talks to DC’s Trinity pleading for their help. The shockwave he sends on the planet sets forth an explosion of new powers, explaining logically why all these new heroes and villains are created. This ties in directly with the upcoming comics miniseries which will show how these new found powers affect the lives of average citizens who have now been transformed into powered beings.

Check out our interview in its entirety after the jump and stick with us for all things DC Universe Online as the Beta kicks into gear this month.

Things Get Exciting With A New Trailer For ‘Venture Bros.’ Season 4.5

One of the big hits at this year’s Comic-Con was, and has been for the past few years, Adult Swim’s Venture Bros. This year, creators Jackson Publick and James Urbaniak treated us to a few hints about the upcoming season. First, it won’t have a traditional season number. Think of it more like “Season 4.5”. Also, the finale will be a full hour, and won’t air until mid December. It’s title? “A Very Special Venture Bros. Season Finale Hour-Long Extravaganza.”

With that said, the very first trailer for the upcoming season has just hit the web, and it looks to be as promising as the two claimed it to be. From what we can see, we get some awesome parodies to fan favorites like M.A.S.K., Spider-Man, and yes, even genital formalwear.

Check out the full trailer after the jump, and be sure to join team Venture when season 4.5 starts up Sunday, September 12 at 11:30p ET/PT.
