NBC Pulls ‘Glee’ Cast from Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade

gleeIt started innocently enough on TMZ, then gained speed through Entertainment Weekly’s Hollywood Insider, and is now all over the Internet: a source close to the people behind Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day Parade has confirmed that NBC instructed the parade organizers to rescind an offer made to the cast of Fox’s Glee to perform.

Orlando Veras, a spokesperson for Macy’s, released a statement saying, “As with any live event, the talent booking process is a fluid one subject to frequent updates or changes. Due to this fact, we don’t confirm talent appearances for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade until early November when the final line-up is determined.”

The parade has showcased numerous talent from various competing networks in the past, but sources feel that spotlighting the entire cast of the hit television show might lead to outright promotion of a rival network. Surely this is not the last we’ve heard of this…

umbrella-academy-iphone

Own an iPhone? Check. Love comics like Hellboy and Umbrella Academy? Check. Wish you could read them on your iPhone instead of having to lug around a bunch of paper comics? Check. But how? Fortunately, as of this week, you’re in luck because Dark Horse is making that last one possible and has released both Hellboy and Umbrella Academy for the iPhone and iPod Touch, much as they did recently with Star Wars. Can’t believe what you’re reading? Well, believe the following, from the official Dark Horse press release.

HELLBOY and UMBRELLA ACADEMY NOW AVAILABLE ON THE iPHONE

Dark Horse is proud to announce that Mike Mignola’s Hellboy and Gerard Way’s The Umbrella Academy are now available on the iPhone.

At the time of their publication, both Seed of Destruction and Apocalypse Suite were immediately renowned by critics as unique and talented debuts by independent creators.
Soon, industry heavyweights joined the chorus. Hellboy: Seed of Destruction is the beginning of the now legendary series Alan Moore calls, “a passport to a corner of funnybook heaven you may never want to leave.”
Similarly, Grant Morrison calls The Umbrella Academy “one of the great new comic books of this decade,” while Newsarama says the first volume of the series, Apocalypse Suite, is “flawless.”

Trailer for Stallone’s ‘The Expendables’ Goes Online

expendables_posterWe here at The Flickcast have all been pretty excited at the prospect of Sylvester Stallone writing, directing and starring in basically the quintessential action film with the quintessential “who’s who” of action stars. There was a trailer leak for the film about a month ago, which was almost instantly taken down by the studio. But it looks like the first full trailer is here and here to stay.

The film is about a group of black ops agents who go up against an evil Eric Roberts and a third world country dictator. The premise isn’t really important, considering that the film brings together the LARGEST GROUP OF ACTION STARS EVER.

Starting at the top, the film features Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Randy Couture, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Danny Trejo, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. This cast is enough to make any action film fan salivate.

Check out the very first official trailer of the film after the jump. Be sure to catch Sly and company in the action-packed Expendables in theaters on August 20th, 2010.

Facebook and Twitter on XBox Live Release Date Leaked

untitled d

Since its announcement at E3 earlier this year, the social networking elite of XBox Live have anxiously been awaiting the release of Twitter and Facebook for their 360 consoles. As Felicia Day of “The Guild” and “Legend of Neil” fame announced, Twitter, Facebook and LastFM would all be integrated into the XBox 360 Dashboard. There, players would be able to update statuses, check out friends’ profiles and pictures and listen to music all while on their 360 if they have a Gold XBox Live account.

The wait has been long for some as there has, so far, not been a date announced for this service to begin. Plus, it was left out of the recent August Dashboard Update. But apparently we may have an actual date now, thanks to a leak on the UK XBox official website which listed November 17th as the date the service would go live. This was quickly taken down and replaced with the more open ended Autumn 2009 instead.

Of course, this lead to speculation on if Microsoft was waiting to announce the date at a later time to integrate it in to a larger marketing push, if the service was not fully ready to go live at the November date or if the date the service would go live would be the same in both the US, UK and the rest of the world.

So far, there’s no answer to these questions, but we’ll keep you posted on this as well as all other major video game news. And, hit us up on Twitter if you want to find out our XBox Gamertags.

Bryan Singer Going Back to ‘X-Men’?

Picture 2At the Pusan International Film Festival held in South Korea, director Bryan Singer had most fanboys’ ears perking up when he mentioned: “I’m still looking to possibly returning to the X-Men franchise. I’ve been talking to Fox about it.” Singer was the director for both X-Men and X2: X-Men United, but decided to pass on what would eventually be X-Men: The Last Stand so that he could helm Superman Returns instead.

Rush Hour director Brett Ratner handled the third mutant installment while Rendition director Gavin Hood oversaw the spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine in Singer’s absence; the latter of which will birth another spin-off revolving around Ryan Reynolds’ character, Deadpool. Box office success was never a problem with these comic-themed movies, but both X3 and the Superman reboot didn’t stand up critically to some other feature films from the same genre.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Singer likes to “trick audiences into thinking they’re seeing fireworks, but they’re learning about themselves and listening to what I have to say.” He further stated: “The excitement about working in science fiction and fantasy is – the stories, if they are good, are about human condition.” This, combined with how the first two X-Men chapters were received, would seem to indicate that Singer has a good grasp of what the backbone of Marvel’s mutant population is all about, but at this time there has been no announcement or confirmation of Singer telling Wolverine what to do.

Want ‘World of Goo’? Name Your Price!

goo1I like to consider myself a gamer and about six months ago, I downloaded the World of Goo demo moment of boredom. This quirky little computer game had come super recommended to me from many different sources and needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed. This game is amazing. But, being a poor college student, I couldn’t afford to pick up the full version of the game against other games about to be released or playing my monthly World of Warcraft subscription.

However, Kotaku recently pointed out  that from now until October 19th, 2D Boy will be offering World of Goo for whatever you’re willing to pay. The game usually retails for $20, so you could chip in more than that in your appreciation for this awesome little game, or pay as little as a penny.

World of Goo was released one year ago today, and is available for PC, Mac, and Linux.

A Frightening Tale About Horror Movies In Distribution Hell

paranormal-activity

It takes a lot to be a horror fan. We suffer indignities that other film fans wouldn’t dream of. Genre films are seldom screened for press, leading to frantic scrambling to get a seat at a midnight showing so that we can have that review up and ready for you, dear readers, on opening day. Regular critics scoff at our genre, and often can’t be bothered with it at all. So it rests upon those of us who are true lovers of the genre to keep you abreast of the happenings in horror-land.

Adding to my general frustration with the powers that be is the mishandling of three recent films in particular.  All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Trick ‘r Treat, and Paranormal Activity have all gotten a rotten distribution deal in one way or another. I  asked Scott Weinberg, Managing Editor of Cinematical and Editor of Horror Squad if he was surprised that all three of these got shelved after they received good festival buzz. “Annoyed, yes. Surprised, no. Every distributor seems to want a ‘break-out’ horror flick, but few know what to do with it once they get one,” he said

So here is the rundown on these three films.

New ‘DJ Hero’ Game Intro Cinematic

djhero-gmfWe’ve got a new intro cinematic video to share with you today showcasing the cool upcoming DJ Hero game from our friends at Activision. I’m going to go out on a limb right now and say this game, based on all the stuff we’ve seen so far and the caliber of artists involved, could end up being as big as Guitar Hero.

I know, that may sound crazy, but this game seems to have what it takes to succeed with its innovative design and new turntable controller. Plus, its got some great music from artists like Jay-Z, Eminem, Daft Punk, The Scratch Peverts, Grand Master Flash and DJ AM which only enhances its potential awesomeness.

I guess the jury is still out but I, for one, can’t wait to get my hands on the game. DJ Hero and DJ Hero Renegade Edition ship to North America on October 27th for Xbox 360, Wii, PS3 and PS2. Until then, be sure to check out the video of this cool into cinematic after the jump.
