Five More Clips from NBC’s ‘Community’

community-nbc-castCommunity, a new Fall sitcom offering from NBC, seems to be shaping up as a very interesting show and one defiantly worth checking out. We’ve brought you quite a bit of news and promos for it in the past, but that won’t stop us from bringing you even more promo videos right now highlighting all that’s good about the new show. Courtesy of the fine folks at NBC, these new clips, some of which are scenes from the show and some interviews, give even more insight into the characters and situations encountered by the eclectic ensemble that have gathered to bring this show to life.

To refresh your memory, Community, which comes from Emmy Award-winning directors Joe and Anthony Russo (Arrested Development), is a smart comedy about higher education and lower expectations. It focuses on a band of misfits, at the center of which is a fast-talkin’ lawyer whose degree has been revoked (Joel McHale of The Soup). They form a study group and, in Breakfast Club fashion, end up learning a lot more about themselves than they do about their course work. Besides McHale, the show also features Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Ken Jeong and Chevy Chase. Yes, that’s the Chevy Chase.

In addition to all these promos and the other info we’ve brought you before, tonight we’re going to be at a special preview of the pilot episode of the show and will also get to ask the cast some questions. So, look for a review of the pilot and the Q/A with the cast right here at The Flickcast. Until then, watch these new videos after the jump and be sure to tune in when Community hits the airwaves on Thursday, September 17th at 9:30/8:30C.

‘Shadow Complex’ Sets XBLA Sales Record

shadow-complex-box-360As many of you probably read with our review of Shadow Complex two weeks ago,  the Super Metroid-inspired title is a fun action platformer with a few minor flaws. But according to the XBox Live Arcade community, these flaws didn’t keep Shadow Complex from becoming the top selling game of not only XBox’s Summer of Arcade but the highest first week sales figures and single week sales figures ever on the platform. Reaching over 200,000 downloads in its first week, Shadow Complex has set a new target for all aspiring downloadable games creators.

Scott Austin, director of digitally distributed games at Microsoft was quoted, “Congratulations to Chair Entertainment and Epic Games for creating an outstanding game… As the capstone title of the second annual Summer of Arcade program, Shadow Complex has raised the bar for downloadable games. We’re proud to offer such high-quality content on Xbox LIVE Arcade.”

With great new releases coming out this summer like Battlefield 1943, ‘Splosion Man and Shadow Complex for XBox Live Arcade and Fat Princess for the Playstation Network, downloadable games continue to prove their viability in the gaming marketplace. Hats off to Chair Entertainment for setting this new milestone.

‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot In the Works

the-fantastic-four-comicIt should come as no surprise that in addition to the big announcements yesterday, especially the Disney Marvel deal, there was other news. One such piece that may please many Marvel fans out there who were less than thrilled with the way the first two movies turned out is the late breaking revelation that Fox is rebooting The Fantastic Four franchise. But wait, don’t get too excited because Akiva Goldsman, the man who wrote the two worst Batman films in history (Batman and Robin and Batman Forever) and the feature film version of Lost In Space featuring Matt Leblanc is in charge of the reboot for the studio.

Fortunately, he’s not actually writing the script and is just a producer. Michael Green, co-executive producer of Heroes, co-writer of the new Green Lantern and creator of the short-lived series Kings is the one tapped to write the new script. So, that may mean good things for the new Fantastic Four franchise. In case you don’t recall, 2005’s Fantastic Four and the 2007 sequel Rise of the Silver Surfer were directed by Tim Story and starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis. Since the details of the reboot are still being worked out, it is unclear if any of them will return. Or, if they should.

To be honest, I wouldn’t mind if nobody from the first films returned. I wasn’t a big fan of Tim Story’s direction nor most of the performances except for Gruffudd and Chiklis. Starting over fresh is not a bad idea and now that Iron Man and The Dark Knight have clearly shown the way to make really great comic book movies, maybe Michael Green can turn The Fantastic Four into something great also. Let’s hope so because these characters deserve a better cinematic treatment then they’ve gotten so far.
