869715-asma36a_superAmazing Spider-Man Annual #36 – Marvel – #3.99
Score: 4.5

What are two things that don’t belong in a Spider-Man comic? One, forced Boston accents from all characters in dialogue boxes. And two, any mention of the Clone Saga. But I’m getting ahead of myself. The extra sized annual issue begins with a man in a house burning down around him as he fights someone who looks to be Peter Parker.

Fast forward to the modern day where Peter Parker sits at a banquet table in Boston for his Aunt May’s impending nuptuals to J. Jonah Jameson Sr. as he sits across from J. Jonah Jameson. Jameson Sr. reveals his engagement present to Aunt May, a photo of her family that she has lost touch with, before opening a door and revealing the entire family that May and Peter didn’t know still existed. And of all people to walk in with the reunited family, the man from the opening pages seen in the burning house with “Peter Parker”.

Moments later after Peter has awkwardly thought inappropriate thoughts about his newfound cousins, Peter is attacked in the restroom by the man now donning a supersuit and calling himself Raptor. What follows are a few pages of rather bland fight scenes and tons of Bah-ston speak and “Jeter sucks” shouts from the on looking crowd. Though some may consider this next part a spoiler, it’s obvious where this story was going right from the first page. Raptor isn’t after Peter Parker, he’s after Ben Reilly. (Insert ominous music here)

Fan Film Friday: New 2012 Trailer

2012_movie_posterWe haven’t posted all that much about Roland Emmerich’s epic disaster movie 2012 here at the site because it doesn’t really look all that good. There was a punchy little trailer about a month back, which we posted for your viewing pleasure, but that didn’t really raise our expectations. Thankfully, the friendly folks at i09 put together this lovely remix of the trailer, to show off it’s true nature, and help us all comprehend how ridiculous the movie really looks.

For those still thinking optimistically, the film is written and directed by Roland Emmerich, who brought us such films as 10,000 BC and The Day After Tomorrow. According to IMDB, the movie is “an epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.”

Those survivors include such names as John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Thandie Newton, Woody Harrelson, Oliver Platt, and Danny Glover. 2012 hits screens November 13 of this year.

Check out the new trailer “remix” after the jump.

‘Marvel vs. Capcom 2’ Comes to Xbox Live

8724header_banner7167182

Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Comics and Video Games together in perfect harmony. We are just one made-for-TV movie starring Hugh Jackman and Jean-Claude Van Dame away from a property that encapsulates everything The Flickcast loves. In early 2000, Capcom released in arcades their fourth and final game in a series of games pitting Marvel’s finest against Capcom’s bravest.

With a total of 56 playable characters, 28 from Marvel’s side (with two versions of Wolverine) and 28 from Capcom’s (including 4 brand new made for this game) and 3 on 3 gameplay, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 quickly became an arcade favorite and is considered by some the best fighting game ever created. Now, 9 years later, it’s re-release has filled both the comic and video game communities with buzz about the game.

Interview: Christos Gage Gives ‘Absolution’

One of the most enjoyable things about writing for The Flickcast is having early access to new products like comics, movies and video games. Along with that, sometimes comes the chance for exclusive access to their creators as well. Recently, I was given the chance to interview Christos Gage.

For those not familiar with him, he has quite an extensive resume both in television and comics, from Law and Order: Special Victims Unit to Avengers: Initiative from Marvel. And of course we can’t forget the Flickcast favorite miniseries he recently was a part of through IDW, G.I.Joe: Cobra. Now, Christos is taking on a new challenge, but one he is most certainly looking forward to.

Coming out in August, Christos will debut Absolution from Avatar Press. The same people who brought us Crossed by Garth Ennis will be giving Christos free reign on his creator owned property. The following is the conversation we were able to have with Christos about this exciting new project.

The Flickcast: Thank you for taking the time to answer some of our questions. For those not aware, you have your first miniseries from Avatar Press coming out in August called Absolution. Would you mind giving a brief idea of what the book is?

Christos Cage: Absolution is about John Dusk-a superhero in a world where superheroes are a sanctioned branch of law enforcement-who starts secretly executing criminals.  There comes a point where he’s seen one too many of them end up beyond the reach of the law, whether because they’ve served their time, or there wasn’t enough evidence to convict, or whatever.  He’s seen them go out and re-offend, which he and everyone else knew would happen.

‘Halloween 2’ Launches Twitter Contest

halloween-2-posterDo you love Twitter? Do you actually know what Twitter is? Are you a fan of movies like Halloween 2 (aka H2)? If you answered “yes” to these questions, then this announcement is for you.

Today, promotion for Rob Zombie’s upcoming Halloween 2 has reached a new level and they’ve started a contest on Twitter. What do you have to do to win? The first 50 people to send in a photo of themselves in front of a Halloween 2 poster or standee at a local theater will win a poster.

Just @ the picture to the official Halloween 2 Twitter account H2_TheMovie and name the theater, city and state where you took the photo. If you win, you not only get the poster but your photo will be uploaded onto the Halloween 2 Facebook fan page as well.

But hurry, they’ve started and people are already winning so don’t delay if you want a cool poster and some free publicity on Facebook. Come on, who doesn’t want that?

Halloween 2 hits theaters everywhere on August 28th.

Justin Timberlake As Green Lantern?

justin-timberlakeA few weeks ago, blog-o-sphere guru Rick Marshall was a guest on The Flickcast, and on the show we discussed how monotonous it can be when a rumor starts and every news site and it’s mother decides to post about it. We’ve decided to feed the bottomless machine here by giving slightly more stock to the rumor that pop star Justin Timberlake screen tested and is being “seriously considered” for the role of the Green Lantern in a big screen adaptation.

The rumor comes from big, red Harry Knowles over at Ain’t it Cool News, who supposedly got the news from Leavesden Studios, the company who will be working on the film. There’s no telling if this information is legit, or just another rumor like Cher as Catwoman and Eddie Murphy as The RIddler. Either way, it seems to be a way better choice than Jack Black, who was rumored to be playing the titular role a few years back.

The actual film, which isn’t a rumor, will be written by Greg Berlanti (Eli Stone) and Michael Green (Heroes), with Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) in the director’s chair. Other names that have been tossed around for the main role range from Bradley Cooper to Common to Ryan Gosling. The next thing Timberlake has on his plate is Shrek Forever After and 46 more appearances on Saturday Night Live.

Disney Announces Comic-Con Agenda in 3D!

johnny-depp-wonderlandSome exciting stuff coming from the mouse at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Among the very cool things we’re particularly excited about are the panels concerning Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and the reboot of Tron called Tron (at least for the moment). Also, Disney plans on having several guests to discuss these films, and the fact that they’re all in 3D, including Robert Zemekis, animation legends John Lasseter and Hayao Miyazaki, Tron reboot producers Sean Bailey and Steve Lisberger, veteran animation directors John Musker and Ron Clements and special guest director/auteur Tim Burton.

With all this, it looks to be a very interesting couple of days around the Disney booth and panels. Check out all the info from Disney’s official release:

WALT DISNEY STUDIOS MOTION PICTURES’ COMIC-CON AGENDA IS FULL OF “FIRSTS”

New ‘Prototype’ Hints and Tips Video Arrives

prototypeIf you’re a fan of excellent games where you get to blow lots of stuff up and mutate into cool shapes and then kill your friends, then the game Prototype is for you. Previously, our own John Carle gave a preview of the game for you to enjoy. And now, with the game in the hands of eager players (and very popular here at The Flickcast fortress), some players may be asking themselves for a bit of help when navigating the game’s obstacles.

Fortunately, the folks at Activision have heard your requests and have put together a very nice “Hints” video that contains lots of tips, hints and “stupid chopper tricks.” They’ve also kindly shared it with us so we can bring it to you. So, if you’re stuck somewhere in the game and unsure what your next move should be, this video might just be the thing you’re looking for.

Prototype is for all next-gen platforms and is available now. Check out the video after the jump. And if you do, seeing as how this is an “M” rated game, by clicking through you certify you are 18 years of age or older.
