Dream Cast: The Luna Brothers’ ‘The Sword’

With comic properties being snatched up by movie studios like lucrative hotcakes, a Luna Brothers film project is clearly inevitable. With their cinematic style, self-contained stories, and strong emotional centers, Joshua and Jonathan Luna’s titles are a perfect fit for the silver screen.

Probably the best thus far, a very original and dark superhero tale called simply The Sword could make an amazing, violent, and beautiful modern fantasy film. Of course, the cast would have to be as moving as the source material. Here are my humble suggestions for a movie adaptation of The Luna Brothers’ The Sword.

ZENA GREY as DARA

Besides her girl-next-door good looks and soulful eyes, Zena Grey has the rare mix of fragility and strength necessary to play cripple-turned-crusader Dara Brighton.  At the role-appropriate age of 23, Grey has already shown her range in several movie and TV roles, most recently a recurring stint on House as Taub’s second baby mama.

NAOMI SCOTT as JULIE

She may not look much like the drawing, but Scott’s Indian heritage and American attitude are totally accurate for the part of Dara’s too-cool best friend Julie Seosoudavannavong. Plus, with Terra Nova‘s days numbered, the young actress is likely to be available soon.

SAM HUNTINGTON as JUSTIN

Veteran actor Huntington is a dead ringer for average Joe twentysomething Justin. He has the doe-eyes-in-headlights look down to an art form but can also tap into a wellspring of rage as displayed in his turn as a reluctant werewolf on Syfy’s Americanization of Being Human.

THE SIBLINGS

When casting immortals, one walks a fine line between actors who simply do not have the years behind their eyes to play ancient and those whose aging faces betray their mortality. Of course, it helps that some movie stars actually don’t age. That said, finding three actors who could pull off the single-mindedness, confidence, and brutality of the siblings wasn’t easy- not to mention that they should look like a family. Although it is most important that each individual sibling is perfectly cast, the players must also share some resemblance. The following performers are multi-talented, charismatic, and of course, ludicrously gorgeous:

BRANDON ROUTH as KNOSSOS

TAYLOR KITSCH as ZAKROS

ELIZA DUSHKU as MALIA

As always, that’s just one fan’s opinion. Leave a comment and let me know who would be in your dream cast!
