New Images of Sam Worthington In ‘Clash of the Titans’

clash-of-the-titans-worthington-1-smallI’ve been pretty excited about this film since I first heard about it a few months ago. The original Clash of the Titans was epic cinematic camp and featured Harry Hamlin, Ursula Andress and Laurence Olivier as Zeus. Now, they’re remaking it under the direction of Louis Leterrier, the man who brought Hulk back from the cinematic brink last year — and we’ve got some pictures to prove it.

Warner Brothers, the kind and generous people that they are, have released some nice images for Clash of the Titans which are better than the ones which originally appeared in Empire and Entertainment Weekly. The new pics (Taken by Jay Maidment) show Sam Worthington as Perseus, who goes on a quest to save Andromeda and defeat Hades, the god of the underworld.

Liam Neeson follows in the footsteps of Olivier and plays Zeus, the wise yet often angry and spiteful king of the gods who’s also Perseus’ father. Ralph Fiennes plays Hades, ruler of the underworld, who plans to destroy Zeus and rule over everything and everyone. Yes, these pictures are pretty cool and it looks like Worthington has got the sword-wielding thing down pretty well. But no shots of Medusa? Come on, that’s got to be in the movie or it just isn’t Clash of the Titans.

I’m sure they’re probably saving that for later. At least I hope so. The new Clash of the Titans opens on March 26, 2010. Check out the pics in bigger sizes after the jump.

‘Blackest Night’ Leads to a Father and Son Reunion?

blackest-night-superman1With anticipation building for DC’s next big crossover “Blackest Night”, the biggest question seems to be “Who are the Black Lanterns?” Judging from tag line such as “The Dead Will Rise”, upcoming comic solicits and various toy line announcements, a few characters have been basically confirmed to be wearers of the black rings. Some of the most notable characters expected to be Black Lanterns are Martian Manhunter, Aquaman and Earth-2 Superman.

For those who don’t know, Earth-2’s Superman is a older version of Superman from an alternate dimension who was killed by Super-Boy Prime in the “Infinite Crisis” crossover event. In the upcoming mini-series Blackest Night: Superman, Earth-2 Superman is seen standing over the grave of the recently deceased Jonathan Kent, the father of the Superman we all know and love (Well, maybe not all love but at least all know).

Could this mean that Pa Kent is destined to become one of the Black Lanterns? With Earth-2 Superman being one, it has already set the stage for Superman to become involved in the crossover. But if his own father were to become one, how could Clark Kent fight the man who adopted and raised him like his own son?

E3 2009: Microsoft’s ‘Project Natal’ First Look Video

Sure, E3 ended yesterday, but there’s still a few things left to show from the show. One of those, as we told you about previously in our Microsoft announcements article, was the announcement of “Project Natal”, a new controller-less technology developed by Microsoft.

What it does is allow you to play games and control the XBox 360 without the use of a controller, a mouse, a keyboard or any kind of physical interface. You just use your hands and body.

This may sound like science fiction but after seeing the demo of the technology at E3, it looks much more like a reality. Still not convinced? I don’t blame you, I was skeptical at first too, but seeing it in action made the difference. Check out this demo video below and see for yourself.

The New ‘Final Destination 4’ Trailer

final-destination4-posterOver at UGO they’ve got the trailer for Final Destination 4 (aka The Final Destination), which is supposedly the last installment in the FD franchise. In the trailer, and in the movie, we’re treated to the usual gang of people who’ve temporarily escaped death only to be confronted with their demise later once death realizes its mistake and comes to collect.

Oh, and there’s one other twist this time around: its in 3D. I’m not sure if that will help or hinder the proceedings but even if its a dismal failure, rest assured others will still try to make and release movies in 3D because they think that’s what the audience wants. Didn’t Hollywood try this stunt a couple times before in the early 50’s and mid 80’s and it failed miserably?

I seem to recall a little movie called Jaws 3: 3D that came and went pretty quickly. That wasn’t that long ago. Plus, does anyone remember Spacehunter: Adventures in The Forbidden Zone starring Peter Strauss and a young Molly Ringwald or Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn featuring Jeffrey Byron and Kelly Preston? Didn’t think so.

I guess its time to try it again what with this movie and James Cameron’s Avatar coming out. Maybe they’ll get 3D right this time? it could happen.

Final Destination 4, starring Krista Allen, Nick Zano and Mykelti Williamson, hits theaters August 28th. Check out the trailer after the jump.

‘Archie’ Comics Now Available on Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch

archie-iphoneSince getting my iPhone a year ago, I have been greedily downloading various applications and wasting a fair amount of time in the process. Do I really need an app that taps out a Morse Code translation for any message that I input? Can I exist without the random rock/paper/scissors generator? Maybe. But here’s the thing though, I found an application that I really don’t think I can live without: Archie Comics on the iPhone and iPod Touch!

Since 1979 I have been an avid Archie reader. I spent many an afternoon reading Archie’s TV Laugh Out, Betty and Veronica, and the coveted Double Digests. I still have my threadbare Archie nightshirt from Mervyns, circa 1985, and an old VHS somewhere of the Archie TV movie. In recent years, however, I’ve read fewer and fewer copies of the “Red Headed Rapscallion.” I simply don’t have the time to go hunting at a comic book store and most grocery stores no longer carry comics.

Now, thanks to the folks at iVerse Media, I have the Riverdale High crew at my fingertips, 24/7. With the launch of the new Archie app, we can read about the months prior to our friends starting their first year at Riverdale High. “The Summer Before Freshman Year” is a five part series that chronicles the gang’s transition, apprehension and preparation for high school. Here’s the best thing: Part 1 is Free!

‘Battlestar Galactica’, the UN and ‘The Plan’

Thursday night in Los Angeles at the famous Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd., producers and cast members from Sci-Fi Channel‘s groundbreaking series Battlestar Galactica got together with officials for the United Nations to discuss issues ranging from human rights to accountability to peace and justice throughout the world — and The Flickcast was there to bring you all the details.

Although these global issues are very important and worthy of discussion, because this is Hollywood, the panel also managed to talk a bit about Battlestar Galactica, the DVD release of the series and the upcoming movie The Plan.

Previously, this group had gotten together at the actual United Nations in New York, which we told you about, and this time around the topics of discussion for the first part of the evening were similar. First up was Sci-Fi Channel President Dave Howe who announced, among other things, that Battlestar Galactica had been nominated for “Program of the Year” by the Television Critics Association.

Then, after a round of thunderous applause at that statement, to which he responded “Well, we haven’t won yet,” he introduced the moderator for the evening: Geoff Boucher of the Los Angels Times’ Hero Complex Blog. Once Boucher took the stage, he introduced the representatives from the UN and the cast and producers of Batlestar Galactica, and then went right into some clips from the four seasons of BSG, including scenes with all your favorite cast members relevant to the topics at hand. Next, Boucher jumped in with questions for the panel.

As this event was billed as a discussion about “TV’s role in making global issues relevant” the questions for the panel started off with very serious topics. Some of these included human rights, a discussion of justice versus revenge, how accountability is important when punishing people who perpetrate crimes against humanity, that BSG addressed issues that people in the UN address each and every day and how the UN doesn’t use the term “Air Locking” like they do on BSG, but, joked one UN rep, perhaps they should.

Fan Film Friday: Will Ferrell in ‘Bat Fight’

With both Land of the Lost and The Hangover opening, it looks to be a side-splitting weekend in the world of film. So, what better way to start it off than by watching an old Funny-or-Die classic in Will Ferrell’s Bat Fight.

If you’re wondering what’s up with Ferrell’s long platinum hair, the short was shot on the set of a The Flickcast favorite, Eastbound & Down while Ferrell was filming a cameo from last season. This parody short is about a game of both honor and diplomacy…oh, and killing your opponent with a baseball bat.

The short also stars The Office’s Craig Robinson. Check it out after the jump.
