TV: Find Out What FX’s Series ‘The Bridge’ Is All About In These Previews

the-bridge-kruger-bichir-1

We’ve been watching the FX original series The Americans since it premiered. We love the show and are glad it’s coming back for a second season.

But this post isn’t about The Americans. It’s about another show that’s been teased during episodes of The Americans. That show is the upcoming FX drama The Bridge which, to be honest, has us very intrigued.

We haven’t had much info about the show up til now, but fortunately today FX has sent us four promos for it and we, of course, are bringing them to you.

Not only that, we have a bit more info regarding the shows’s plot as well. Here it is:

Demián Bichir stars in the role of “Marco Ruiz,” a homicide investigator for the state of Chihuahua, Mexico living in Ciudad Juárez. A family man, Marco is one of the last good men in a corrupt and apathetic police force that is outgunned by the powerful drug cartels. He’s sharp, charming, and observant and painfully aware that his city is in a state of chaos. When a body is dumped on the bridge that spans the El Paso-Ciudad Juárez border, Ruiz is forced to work with his American counterpart, Detective Sonya Cross (Diane Kruger).

Check out the new videos after the break. Look for The Bridge to premiere on FX on July 10.

TV: Sean Bean Is Back In TNT’s ‘Legends’

Sean-Bean-Legends-1

Yes, but for how long? Sadly, even though Sean Bean is one of our favorite actors, he does tend to die in many of the movies and TV series in which he appears. Maybe that won’t be the case this time as Bean is clearly the star of this new Howard Gordon-produced series Legends.

The show has been picked up by TNT for a ten episode first season and concerns Martin Odum (Bean), an undercover agent working for the FBI’s Deep Cover Operations division. Martin has the uncanny ability to transform himself into a completely different person for each job.

But, as often happens in these situations, he begins to question his own identity when a mysterious stranger suggests that Martin isn’t the man he believes himself to be. Uh oh, twist!

The series also stars Ali Larter as the hot but unfortunately named Crystal Quest, a fellow operative who has a history with Martin; Rob Mayes as Troy Quinn, a former Special Ops agent with a single-minded mission-first mentality; Tina Majorino as Maggie Harris, the newest member of the DCO team; Steve Harris as Nelson Gates, the director of the DCO Task Force; and Amber Valletta as Sonya Odum, Martin’s ex-wife.

Look for the series to debut in early 2014. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for you Sean.

Movies: It’s Tom Hanks vs. Somali Pirates In the First Trailer for ‘Captain Phillips’

captain-phillips-tom-hanks-1

Let’s just state for the record that Tom Hanks is a national treasure. No, he wasn’t in National Treasure, that was Nic Cage. Tom Hanks is the guy who started out his career with an RPG movie and then a TV series where he wears a dress and is now, after two Academy Awards, one of the finest and most highly regarded actors of our times.

Sure, he doesn’t always make the best movies (Larry Crowne comes to mind) but still, he’s always likable and, more to the point, always interesting. His latest is the biopic Captain Phillips, wherein Hanks plays Captain Richard Phillips who was taken hostage by Somali Pirates during the Maersk Alabama hijacking in 2009.

The movie is directed by Paul Greengrass and also stars Catherine Keener as Andrea Phillips, Max Martini as the Seal Commander, Yul Vazquez as Frank Castellano and Chris Mulkey as John Cronan. It is scheduled to be released on October 11.

Check out the first trailer for Captain Phillips after the break.

Movies: Finally, the First Trailer for ‘The World’s End’ Is Here

The-Worlds-End-Pegg-Frost-Freeman-1

When we need a good laugh around the office, or at home, we often watch one of two movies: Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz. Both of these are highly amusing and also filled with action, great characters, extensive pop-culture references and excellent performances. Did we mention they’re also damn funny? They are.

So, when the team behind those two movies gets together to make a new one, we get very happy. The new one in question is The World’s End, directed by Edgar Wright and starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Rosamund Pike, it’s the the story of childhood friends who come together after 20 years to stage an epic pub crawl.

Of course, things do not go quite as planned. And thank goodness for that.

Check out the trailer after the break. Look for The World’s End to hit the U.S. on August 29th.

Games: Lobo is Now Live on ‘Injustice: Gods Among Us’

injustice-gods-among-us-lobo

Ever wonder what the attraction to Lobo as a character was? Aside from being an amalgam of various comic tropes and stereotypes, something about him ended up resonating to the point that thirty years since his inception, the anti-hero (who is pretty much just such a badass villain that people still like him) finds his way to the roster of Injustice: Gods Among Us as the first of four DLC characters.

For those who purchased the Season Pass, Lobo was announced on launch day for the game as the first member of the DLC roster. From the video below, he looks like a combination of fighting styles of some of the other brute characters like Solomon Grundy or Doomsday with the gunplay of Deathstroke. The trailer also gives a brief history of Lobo and the concept behind him, and how Lobo started out almost as a parody before taking on a life of his own.

Warner Bros. Going Forward With ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Movie

dungeons-dragons-art-1

This should be happy news, but I don’t think it is. Warner Bros. has aquired the movie rights to Dungeons & Dragons and are developing a feature film version.

I’m trying to be optimistic here but this development brings up several important questions, especially this one: what’s the story? If you know anything about D&D, and I would bet most Warner execs don’t, it’s not a game with one, set story. It’s a game where players basically make up the story as they go along.

Sure, there’s some common elements like the various character races, occupations and such, and the Dungeon Master certainly plans out some of what might happen during the game, but the rest unforlds on it’s own as the game progresses. In other words, simply saying “We’re making a D&D movie” doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense.

But that doesn’t really surprise me. Warner Bros. just wants its own Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings and to them D&D is the same thing and a name they can exploit.

To answer the story question (and this doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence either), the studio is apparently going to use an existing script by Wrath Of The Titans and Red Riding Hood writer David Leslie Johnson. That script is called Chainmail and is reportedly based on the game Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson thought up before they created D&D.

Movies: First Trailer for ‘Ender’s Game’ Arrives

enders-game-harrison-ford-asa-butterfield-1

Of all the military sci-fi novels out there yet to be made into movies, I’ve always wanted to see an adaptation of Joe Haldeman’s The Forever War. I would also like to see John Scalzi’s Old Man’s War made into a movie or heck, even another try at taking Robert A. Heinlein’s Starship Troopers to the big screen.

That said, in spite of Orson Scott Card’s ridiculous personal opinions, his Ender’s Game is also a pretty great sci-fi novel it its own right, so a big screen adaptation of it is still a welcome development. That’s just what Summit Entertainment has done and to kick things off they’ve released the first trailer for the movie.

In it we get our first real look at Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, complex and conflicted boy who turns out to be a military genius, and the rest of the supporting cast including Harrison Ford as Colonel Hyrum Graff and Ben Kinsley as Mazer Rackham. Truth be told, this looks pretty good and I look forward to seeing more.

Check out the trailer after the jump. Look for Ender’s Game in theaters on November 1.
