It’s ‘Spock vs. Spock’ In This Latest Commercial for Audi

nimoy-quinto-commercial-1

As someone who made one or two commercials in the past, I can’t say all that much about the creative merits of this particular commercial except it didn’t really motivate me to buy an Audi. But that’s not really the purpose of this commercial anyway.

What’s the purpose then? Well, that’s debatable. However, to a Star Trek-loving geek like myself, I also say it’s pretty irrelevant. I just loved it because I get to see two great actors, who’ve played one of the most iconic characters in history, have a bit of fun. Plus, after today’s earlier sad news, I could use a bit of fun.

The two actors in question are Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto who, of course, both played Spock in various incarnations of Star Trek. The commercial in question is “The Challenge” and in it Spock battles Spock to see who can get to the golf course first. The loser buys lunch. Who wins?

Well, I won’t spoil it for you except to say that the solution found by Spock is highly logical, pretty darn funny and a great twist.

Check out the commercial after the break.

R.I.P. Ray Harryhausen

Ray Harryhausen Myths And Legends Exhibition

One of the great special effects pioneers of cinema, Ray Harryhausen, has died. He was 92.

Fortunately, we can remember him through his amazing body of work including The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, One Million Years B.C., The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, Clash of the Titans and my personal favorite, and one of the greatest films of all time, Jason and the Argonauts.

Rest in peace Mr. Harryhausen. You’ve done those of us coming after you, and movie fans, a great service, and we thank you.

Francis, Major Nelson and More Want ‘Plants vs. Zombies 2’ This July

Francis Plants vs Zombies 2

Plants vs. Zombies came out way back in 2009 for the PC and Mac from PopCap games. It would go on to be ported to iOS, XBLA, Nintendo DS, the PSN, DSiWare, Android, Windows Phone, the PlayStation Vita and then finally to the Blackberry in January of this year (also proving that BlackBerry really has no idea what they are doing). Originally titled Lawn of the Dead, Plants vs. Zombies is one of the most widely popular tower defense style games ever with a MetaCritic score of 88 to boot. So what is taking so long to get a sequel? That’s what YouTube stars like Francis and XBox community manager Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb want to know too.

With the teaser trailer below, we finally get official confirmation that Plants vs. Zombies 2 isn’t only real but that it is coming out in July of this year. Hopefully it won’t come out during Comic Con or there are going to be a lot of very confused people trying to figure out the best use of their time. Though no actual footage is shown, it is an awesome teaser that showcases how all of us feel about the wait on this title. The one the Flickcast staff seems to relate to the most is Francis.

Hey, It’s a ‘New’ Trailer for ‘Knights of Badassdom’

knights-of-badassdom-dinlage-kwanten-1

If you recall, we first told you about this movie way back in 2011. Can you remember that far back? Yeah, it’s not easy for us either.

Since 2011, the movie has had a rough road and apparently the director and financier/producer have been fighting over it, which is not really a good sign. However, with this new trailer being released, it looks like the movie may finally see the light of day.

We hope things have been worked out to everyone’s satisfaction as we support the director’s vision around here. We also understand that it takes producers (and money) to make movies happen, so we can’t forget that either.

Anyway, to refresh your memory, Knights of Badassdom concerns a group of people who do a little live-action roll playing. No, it’s not like that. Well, it could be like that.

And with the second season With season about to debut, the folks at HBO have sent us some videos to get things started off and to help get you ready. Check them out after the break.

TV RECAP: ‘Once Upon a Time’ Episode 221 – ‘Second Star on the Right’

ETHAN EMBRY, LANA PARRILLA

We open with young Bae going through the magic bean portal and dropping into a land without magic. He stares in wonder at old timey London. “What is this place?” he says. A whole new wooooorrrrrld! Credits.

Six months later and baby Bae is scrounging for food in the garbage. He uses an unattended ladder to sneak into a manor house through the window. Within a minute of scarfing down some tasty looking bread, he’s caught by a dog (Nana!) and a young girl. Taking in his street rat appearance and the stolen bread in his hands and pockets, she lowers her weapon (a candlestick) and offers Bae as much bread as he wants. We learn her name too: Wendy Darling.

In Storybrooke, grown up Bae awakens to find Tamara is getting ready for to workout. She’s training for a marathon (…of evil!). Neal says, “Come back to bed. I’ll give you a workout.” Ew. She declines, heads out, and meets up with Oweg in the, I’m assuming abandoned, canning factory. They’ve got Regina strapped to a table and at the moment Hook is talking with the subdued Queen. He tells her that Tamara and Oweg want him to kill Rumplestiltskin, which he’s pretty excited about it, but obviously not in any hurry to do. Regina questions why he trusts them and says he has no idea who they really are.

Confirmed: Next XBox Won’t Require Users to Connect to Internet to Play Games

xbox-720

It looks like Microsoft won’t be as dumb as, well, Microsoft seems to be sometimes. That’s right XBox fans, you won’t need to be connected to the Internet to enjoy any games on the next-gen XBox console, currently known as the XBox 720.

Word has come to us today from the fine folks are Ars Technica (who got hold of an internal Microsoft email) that the Redmond giant has decided against this requirement. In the email, from Microsoft to Xbox engineers, the company outlines “a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection” and instructing the engineers to make those functions “‘just work’ regardless of their current connection status.”

The email goes on to say that the new Xbox should be designed for “playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game” without an Internet connection. Well, that makes more sense, doesn’t it?
