Movies: Here’s the New Trailer for ‘White House Down’

Tatum-Foxx-White-House-Down-1

In truth, I kinda like the fact that we live in a world that can have two separate movies in the same year where the White House gets taken over by bad guys. It worked when we had competing asteroid/comet movies, so why not with this?

Obviously, Hollywood agrees with me as in addition to Olympus Has Fallen, which came out a couple months ago, we’ve now got White House Down. This one stars Channing Tatum as a Capitol cop at the White House with his daughter who gets caught up in an paramilitary invasion.

Roland Emmerich directs James Vanderbilt’s script and the movie also stars Jamie Foxx, Jason Clarke and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Look for it in theaters on June 28.

Meantime, check out the trailer for White House Down after the break.

‘Google Now’ Reportedly Killing Battery Life For iOS Users

google-now-ios

It isn’t that often that iOS users don’t get the latest and greatest aps first, before their Android-using pals. However, when the app in question happens to come from Android-maker Google, iOS users tend to take a back seat.

Most apps from Google do eventually arrive for iOS (thank you Google for Maps) and when they do, iOS users are usually very happy. However, when the app in question causes a problem, that happiness can turn to anger pretty fast.

Sadly, that seems to be the case with the newly-released Google Now feature update to Google’s iOS search app. The shot story is the updated app, which just went live earlier this week, seems to be draining users batteries at an alarming rate.

Fortunately, the folks at Cult of Mac have got you covered. Over at their site they detail just how to make sure Google Now doesn’t kill your battery in short order. You simply turn off location reporting from the privacy setting in the app.

It’s really pretty simple and we’ve included the pic (courtesy of LifeHacker) of where to look for the setting after the break.

If you’re an iOS user who has installed this app are you having any issues with battery life? Let us know in the comments.

Apple Releases iOS 6.1.4 Update for iPhone 5

iphone5-hero-1

Even though they don’t release updates quite as often as a company like Microsoft, Apple does tend to update its products pretty often. In fact, they just issued an update today.

Today’s update is for iOS and the iPhone 5 and brings the software on that device to version 6.1.4. In typical Apple fashion the notes for this up;date don’t really tell a whole lot what the update actually contains.

In fact, ion this particular case, they only contain one sentence: Updated Audio Profile for Speakerphone.” Heck, maybe that’s all it does? Although, it’s kinda hard to believe Apple would got to the trouble to release this update for only one issue.

Still, you never know. iOS 6.1.4 is available from Apple immediately as an over the air (OTA) update. It should also be available for download through iTunes soon.

TV RECAP: ‘Grimm’ Episode 219 – ‘Endangered’

grimm endangered

Wesen of the Week: The Gluhenvolk

Two ranchers are driving through the fields, and one of them sees something and stops. He discovers some mutilated cattle, as well as a blue, glowing, alien man. The rancher goes for his gun, but is shoved into some fencing, impaling himself and killing him. The blue man runs away as the second rancher is coming towards them.

Nick is investigated the key his aunt gave him. He shows it to Monroe, who is able to determine that it is part of a map of Germany that he has from his ancestors. The key is supposedly from a set of 7 that were used by Grimms to hide something they found in Constantinople in the 13th century during the Crusades.

Nick asks Captain Renard about the keys. The Royal families have 4 of the keys, Nick has one, and the other two are unaccounted for. There are many rumors as to what is buried in the spot: the secret of alchemy, everlasting life, Mohammed’s sword, or even the nails used to put Christ on the cross (and some pieces of the cross as well). Whatever is there, it is thought to have great power, and the Royal families would do anything to get it.
