TV RECAP: ‘The Following’ Episode 114 – The End Is Near

the-following-end-is-near

Let me first say how surprisingly difficult it was to watch this episode. After what has happened the last week in Boston, to all of a sudden be watching a show about a manhunt for entertainment kind of threw me for a loop. I live about an hour/hour and a half from Boston, and work less than 20 miles away.

It was a horrible, scary week, and I just wanted to mention that this episode has some activity that brought me right back to that week. I in no way want to seem insensitive by reviewing this episode, but if Fox was okay with airing it, I will do my part and review it.

The episode starts with Joe again watching a tape of Hardy and Molly having sex. Joe keeps replaying a snippet of video where Hardy says “Can’t kill me, I’m already dead.”

Has the Earliest Version of Dungeons & Dragons Been Discovered?

Dalluhn_map

If you’re a geek or gamer (or both), chances are you’ve played Dungeons & Dragons, or know someone who has. First introduced in 1974, D&D went on to become an international phenomenon selling over $1 Billion worth of books, 20-sided dice and related materials in over 30 countries.

To this day, many leaders in entertainment, and other industries, hail D&D as a major inspirations for their creativity and imagination. In short, it was quite a game. And to many, it still is. But where did it come from?

The common wisdom is D&D was invented by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, two friends who’s love of gaming led them to create the first rule books, and more, for what would become modern D&D and later, Advanced D&D. But is that the whole story?

Over at Geek Dad they’ve wondered the same thing and a statement about the discovery of a rare manuscript may just hold the key to unlocking the mystery of who really created the game. According to the statement by the Strong National Museum of Play, “A rare manuscript believed by some experts to be the earliest existing version of Dungeons & Dragons” is now on display at their Rochester, NY, museum.

Order From Your Xbox: Pizza Hut Brings App to Xbox 360

2013-04-23 11.45.44

There is no hope for the human race. I am now certain of it. Pizza Hut, purveyor of fine cuisine like the “Crazy Cheese Crust” Pizza and the P’Zone, have taken their internet ordering talents to Xbox Live, allowing users to order from their local restaurant and have it delivered straight to their door.

By eliminating the middleman of using another device like a laptop or tablet or, gosh, even a cell phone, Pizza Hut puts people in control of nearly each aspect of ordering from their menu directly from the new app released today. Orders can be placed for pizzas, wings, pastas, and the always popular sides ‘n more option.

There’s even a tab listed with the special deals being offered at the time of order. Customers can even choose between delivery or pickup, and can offer to pay through the app with a credit card or pay with cash at time of delivery.

The Original ‘Star Wars’ In 60 Seconds

star-wars-speedrun-1

Being the somewhat stubborn sort we are, we refuse to call the original Star Wars anything but Star Wars. None of this Episode IV crap. It’s just Star Wars.

However, we realize some people may not share our feelings. Heck, some of you may have not even seen Star Wars. We don’t exactly understand that, but it doesn’t mean we don’t care.

So, in the interest of helping those of you who haven’t seen Star Wars and don’t have a lot of time, we present the Star Wars speedrun, made by the folks at 1A4 Studio. Everything you need to know in 60 seconds.

In a speedrun, the entire movie is condensed into a 60-second animated black and white short that hits all the major plot points. Sure, we prefer you see the entire movie (in it’s pre-Lucas tampered pristine awesomeness), but if you just can’t (or won’t) take the time, this will due.

Check it out after the break.

NSFW: Michael Shannon Reads the Delta Gamma Sorority Email

michael-shannon-sorority-letter

In case you haven’t heard, there’s an email going around the Internets reportedly written by a young woman in a sorority unhappy with the way her sisters are behaving at various events and around campus. The language in it is, shall we say, colorful.

You could also call it one of the funniest things we’ve read in a long time. So imagine how funny, and awesome, it is when read aloud by actor Michael Shannon.

No need to imagine, folks, because it actually happened. You need to watch this. . . now.

It’s after the break because, let’s face it, it is definitely not safe for work. Enjoy it. We did.

Monday Freeview: ‘Surgeon Simulator 2013’ for PC and Mac

Surgeon Simulator 2013 Cover Image

If you’re a fan of Let’s Plays or Rage Quit videos on YouTube, you’ll probably already be well versed in this game. But if not, boy do we have something in store for you. Developed back in January at the 2013 Golden Game Jam in just 48 hours, Surgeon Simulator 2013 is far from a realistic simulation as its name might suggest.

In it, players are tasked with performing a heart transplant on a patient. There is a slow loss of blood to put players under a time constraint but as they make mistakes, the patient loses blood more rapidly. The original version is currently a free to play browser based game.

What is interesting about Surgeon Simulator 2013 is that the original version isn’t what one would traditionally call a “good game”. In essence, it is actually pretty broken. Not to knock the development on it because it is a pretty epic creation in mechanics and graphics in just two days time, but the controls leave a little something to be desired. But somehow that has become the appeal of the game.
