Monday Freeview: ‘Surgeon Simulator 2013’ for PC and Mac

If you’re a fan of Let’s Plays or Rage Quit videos on YouTube, you’ll probably already be well versed in this game. But if not, boy do we have something in store for you. Developed back in January at the 2013 Golden Game Jam in just 48 hours, Surgeon Simulator 2013 is far from a realistic simulation as its name might suggest.

In it, players are tasked with performing a heart transplant on a patient. There is a slow loss of blood to put players under a time constraint but as they make mistakes, the patient loses blood more rapidly. The original version is currently a free to play browser based game.

What is interesting about Surgeon Simulator 2013 is that the original version isn’t what one would traditionally call a “good game”. In essence, it is actually pretty broken. Not to knock the development on it because it is a pretty epic creation in mechanics and graphics in just two days time, but the controls leave a little something to be desired. But somehow that has become the appeal of the game.

‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’ and ‘Man Of Steel’ Dish Out (Slightly Similar) Viral Ads

star-trek-into-darkness-5

With the release of two completely freaking awesome trailers this week, the J.J. Abrams’ directed Star Trek: Into Darkness and the Zack Snyder directed/Christopher Nolan produced Man of Steel also release one viral advertisement each. Oddly enough, both viral videos have a similar production value to eachother.

First, the viral for Man of Steel launched, with heavily distorted imagery of General Zod warning Earth that “You Are Not Alone” and Zod demands Kal-El to surrender to him or watch Earth suffer the consequences. The video is insanely distorted, something like a scrambled message from an alien world might possibly look like if our primitive video software tried to encode it.

Most of the audio is pretty clear, stating Zod’s message loud and clear to the people of Earth. When I first saw it, I was ecstatic at what it looked like the Nolan/Snyder camp had put together for what could be a nice string of viral promotional ads.

Then, on Friday, the first viral for Star Trek: Into Darkness launched. Slightly more traditional, perhaps, with a viral video, with clips from the actual movie being shown in between distorted shots of lead villain John Harrison (played by Benedict Cumberbatch). This one plays out as more like you, the viewer, are seeing this message displayed on a screen, and Harrison is telling a tale of James Tiberius Kirk, and the misfortune that lies ahead for him and his crew.

Twitter Launches ‘Twitter Music’ Service

twittermusic

Thank goodness for Twitter because now we have yet another way to find music and get recommendations from fiends and anonymous bots. That’s right folks, today Twitter took the wraps off of one of the worst kept secrets of the Internets: Twitter Music.

In case you’re somehow not familiar with the new service, it helps users discover music based on what their friends are listening to, along with recommendations from popular artists.

“It uses Twitter activity, including Tweets and engagement, to detect and surface the most popular tracks and emerging artists,” Twitter said in a post at its blog. “It also brings artists’ music-related Twitter activity front and center: go to their profiles to see which music artists they follow and listen to songs by those artists. And, of course, you can tweet songs right from the app.”

Harrison Ford Vs. The Wookie

harrison-ford-jimmy-kimmel

This video is pretty great. Harrison Ford was a guest on last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live and agreed, reluctantly, to take some questions from the audience.

As expected, a few people in the audience had questions about the next Star Wars movie, which he didn’t really want to answer. What he didn’t expect was a certain Wookie to be in attendance. Things get out of hand from there.

Does he let the Wookie win? Find out for yourself after the break. Enjoy. We did.

First Trailer for ‘R.I.P.D.’ Arrives

RIPD-set-photo-1

We try not to be cynical, but sometimes it isn’t easy. It’s sad, too, because we really like Jeff Bridges and we can usually tolerate Ryan Reynolds.

Unfortunately, this trailer for Universal’s upcoming R.I.P.D. doesn’t do much to fill us with confidence. Sure, it does feature Bridges and Reynolds in a story about “two cops dispatched by the otherworldly Rest In Peace Department to protect and serve the living from souls who refuse to move peacefully to the other side.”

And yes, Bridges looks pretty cool plus we do like the comic this is adapted from. But sorry, no. It just doesn’t do that much for us. At least not yet.

Judge for yourself after the break. Look for R.I.P.D. to arrive on June 28th.
