Eye-Brawl and Thumpback Giants Coming to Skylanders Giants

Skylanders Giants_Eyebrawl 3

As much as we have enjoyed some of the new Skylanders introduced in Skylanders Giants, there is nothing cooler than adding one of the eight new Giants to your shelf. Up until now, only five of them have become available. That changes with the release of the Undead and Water Giants, Eye-Brawl and Thumpback.

Not only have the Giants been the focus of the latest Skylanders game between the title and the focus on putting the lightcore technology in all of the Giants figures, they have also been given some of the coolest concept design and detailed crafting towards the actual toys.

Eye-Brawl touts itself as being one of the most powerful Skylander in addition to being one of the most visually impressive. Thumpback looks to be a huge powerhouse and will likely become a favorite for players with a preference for Water Skylanders as well.

Check out the full character bios, trailers, screen shots and toy gallery for both Eye-Brawl and Thumpback after the jump.

‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ and the ‘Revolution’ DLC Pack Call for ‘The Replacer’

The Replacer

Call of Duty: Black Ops II is addicting. Between the standard competitive multiplayer and the Zombie mode, thousands of lifetimes of game hours have already been played online. Now while the game doesn’t exactly go into a slump over time after its release, there is definitely a renewed spike in gameplay with the release of new maps.

Things may have been a little different last year with the early access that Elite members received in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 but with Call of Duty: Black Ops II Season Pass holders and the general public gaining access to the new maps at the same time, expect servers to fill up and social lives to diminish. But how do you help salvage social relationships with friends, family, work and significant others? Activision says it’s time to call in a Replacer.

In the video below, you’ll check out the real benefit of taking on a Replacer. For those moments that you don’t really need to be there for like putting together furniture or the first few annoying hours of labor, a Replacer is the ideal substitute.

Twitter Launches Vine Video Sharing App for iOS

twitter-vine

Today, Twitter released it’s new iOS app called Vine, which allows users to shoot video clips and then share them by embedding them in tweets.

Vine videos are limited to a maximum of six seconds, and play in a continuous loop. They are shot using the Vine app, which you can get right here.

In a post, Vine co-founder and general manager Dom Hofmann wrote: “Posts on Vine are about abbreviation — the shortened form of something larger. They’re little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life. They’re quirky, and we think that’s part of what makes them so special.”

According to many, this is supposed to be “the Instagram of Twitter”, but it reamins to be seen if people will take to it in such rabid fashion as they have to Instagram. With many users already signing on to try the service, one complaint we’ve already heard is that the videos playing in a continuous loop, much like GIFs, is kinda annoying.

Yeah, we can see that. Get the new Vine app for free over at Apple’s App Store. Let us know what you think.

Check This Out: Redband Trailer for Indie Zombie Horror Movie ‘Mimesis’

MIMESIS-Poster-Crop

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If that’s true, George Romero must feel pretty damn flattered most of the time — especially if he ever sees the upcoming zombie horror flick Mimesis.

Yeah, we were curious too. Here’s some scoop on Mimesis, directly from the official press release.

“A group of horror fans find themselves unwilling participants in a living nightmare that pays homage to a classic horror film. Seven complete strangers whose only common link is a love for classic era horror films are invited to attend an exclusive “horror fan” party at a remote farm. But as the sun sets, these strangers soon find themselves within a real life version of the 1968 George Romero cult horror classic Night of the Living Dead.”

There’s a new redband trailer for Mimesis and we’ve got it for you right now. After the break, of course. We think it looks pretty interesting, especially for an indie effort. What say you?

TV Recap: ‘The Following’ Season 1 Episode 1 – ‘Pilot’

following_nevermore

An intriguing set of promos that I saw mostly during football games led me to try this new Fox Drama series. While I have been burned in the past with partial seasons (Drive) or one season only series (Alcatraz), I decided to give The Following a try. The show is centered on former FBI agent Ryan Hardy, who is called in to consult on the escape of serial killer Joe Carroll, whom he helped catch originally. Since Hardy knows him better than anyone else, they need his help to find Carroll.

Carroll is obsessed with Edgar Allan Poe, and believes that the death of a beautiful woman is the purest form of art. He removes the eyes of his victims, as they are the window to a person’s soul.

Through a series of clues, Hardy and the FBI begin to believe that Carroll was contacting people via the internet to build a group of followers to carry out his wishes. As further proof, a woman waiting to be questioned at the police station (the naked woman with the words written all over her body seen in the promos) stabs herself in the eye with an ice pick. She appears to be the first of Carroll’s followers.

Sony CEO Hints PlayStation 4 Coming AFTER Next XBox

PlayStation 4

“Why go first when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?”

When asked about the launch of the PlayStation 4 by UK publication The Times, President and CEO of Sony Corporation Kaz Hirai gave that as his response. This can lead us to believe that the PlayStation 4’s official announcement and possibly release as well will follow those of the upcoming next XBox console.

While last week there were leaks indicating that the PlayStation 4 may launch before the next XBox including predictions from Robert W Baird analyst Colin Sebastian, this statement from Kaz seemingly contradicts it. But there is a problem with this statement that you might miss at first glance.

First ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ Trailer With Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman Drops

gerard-butler-olympus-has-fallen

Even with the outcry over violence in movies, games and other forms of entertainment, that hasn’t stopped Hollywood from cranking out violent movies. And it probably won’t for the foreseeable future, if it ever will.

So, as they will keep making ’em, it will keep being our job to bring you information, trailers, and more, about them. Case in point this time is the upcoming action movie Olympus Has Fallen.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman (sadly, not as The President), Olympus Has Fallen is a “Die Hard-in-the-White House” movie where the President’s pad is overtaken by terrorists and it’s up to a Secret Service agent to save the President. Um, yeah. Wasn’t this the plot of a 24 episode from a few years ago?

Oh well, we like badly-in-need-of-a-hit Gerard Butler, so there you go. Check out the trailer after the break. Olympus Has Fallen arrives on March 22nd.

Op-Ed: The NRA, the Media and Violence in Games

Violent Games Cover Image

Since the events of Sandy Hook in Newtown, CT, the argument about violence in games and the effect it has on children has been reignited. Recently, Vice President Joe Biden spoke to everyone from gun owners to experts in the entertainment and gaming industries to try and find ways to prevent another tragedy like Sandy Hook from happening. And when a call came for a ban on assault weapons, the NRA responded by trying to shift the blame solely to the media, including the gaming industry, since the offender was reported to have played “violent video games.”

Obviously, there are many issues that contributed to the tragedy at Sandy Hook and the events that led to it. I cannot even begin to fully explain them all and to try would be socially irresponsible on my part. However, there there are some aspects of it, and the resulting controversy, I feel I need to address.
