Latest ‘Breaking Bad’ Season Five Trailer Is, As Usual, Awesome

If you’ve never watched the FX original series Breaking Bad, you’re really missing out. It’s chock full of great characters, great performances and enough drama to fill up ten regular network shows.

Yes, you can tell we really love it around here. Fortunately, the show is returning to FX soon with all new episodes for season five and just as fortunately (for all of you) FX is letting loose the trailers for the upcoming season.

Of course, we’ve got the latest one for you today. In it you’ll clearly see why we love this show. Bryan Cranston’s Walter White is a bad ass.

New ‘Total Recall’ Trailer Makes Us Recall A Great Film

The original Total Recall is a classic in most senses of the word. Paul Verhoeven’s original film might have taken liberties with the source material, but it exceeded as a sci-fi action extravaganza. The remake hopes to capitalizes on the original film’s name brand, while adapting a story more close to the Philip K. Dick story that inspired both films.

In most of the marketing thus far we have seen hints of familiarity with the 80’s classic, but this new trailer all pretense seems to have been shed. Even though the film is purported to be a more faithful adaptation, the film clearly is taking a lot of its cues from the previous movie.

Even though there are many more parallels exposed in this new trailer, the movie still looks like a slick and handsome sci-fi actioner. The cast is beyond solid, we know the story is a stand out, and the effects work looks to be as competent as you could ask for. Even if Total Recall doesn’t turn into a classic, the trailer suggests it will at least be an adequate summer adventure.

You can check out the full trailer after the jump, and if it sells you, Total Recall hits cinemas later this summer.

Batman and Superman Team Up For The Upcoming LEGO Movie

The LEGO franchise is massive and it goes way beyond the simple building blocks of yesteryear. Between the immensely popular video games, the animated TV Shows and the ancillary merchandise, LEGO as a franchise is as big as any there is. There is only one arena yet to conquer… the cinemas.

So of course a LEGO movie is in the works, and this is not new news. What is new however, is some casting news out of Variety that reveals a pair of do-gooders set to make an appearance in the film:

Casting is currently underway, as Chris Pratt (“Parks and Recreation”) is set to voice the pic’s lead character, while Will Arnett will voice the role of Lego Batman.

Helmers are courting their “21 Jump Street” star Channing Tatum to voice Superman, though he has not committed due to his busy schedule, which includes Sony’s “White House Down,” Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher,” a big-budget sci-fi pic from the Wachowski siblings and a “Jump Street” sequel.

Will Arnett cast as LEGO Batman and Channing Tatum being courted to play LEGO Superman? Yes, please! There is no word on the size of these roles, but even in a cameo capacity this proves the movie has the right sense of humor about itself.

This project has jumped very high on The Flickcast‘s radar, be sure to check back here for any more exciting updates on this project as they break.

Kevin James Steps Into The Octagon In The ‘Here Comes The Boom’ Trailer

There will be a large segment of you that will ignore this movie in its entirety. There are many reasons why you may do that, a dislike of Kevin James, a dislike of inspirational sports movies, or perhaps a dislike of MMA itself. If you fall into any of those categories I plead to you to at least give this trailer a shot.

For those of you who have no idea what Here Comes The Boom even is, here is the synopsis:

Former collegiate wrestler Scott Voss is a 42-year-old apathetic biology teacher in a failing high school. When cutbacks threaten to cancel the music program and lay off its teacher. Scott begins to raise money by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter.

Now, of course, that brief concept isn’t the most convincing argument for the film, but the trailer suggests that there is more to this movie than Kevin James getting beat up in some sub par MMA action. Director Frank Coraci is a mixed bag, but he is able to coax some real emotion from a goofy premise (Click, The Waterboy) so there is hope that Here Comes The Boom can rise above the sum of its parts.

Check out the trailer after the jump, and you can see Here Comes The Boom in October.

There Can Be More Than One, Ryan Reynolds Tries His Luck At Another Franchise

When the initial rumors of Ryan Reynolds circling the role of Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod rose, people were skeptical that he could do the part justice. Those people must not remember what Highlander is as a franchise.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a bigger Highlander fan than you normally encounter, and Christopher Lambert’s Connor is an iconic genre character. There just isn’t a ton of hollowed ground in this franchise, which should be obvious to anyone who has seen one of the 13 different versions of Highlander 2.

Now those rumors are becoming reality as The Tracking Board is reporting that Reynolds has finally signed on to the reboot:

After roughly a month of negotiations, Ryan Reynolds has officially been cast in the lead role for Highlander. Reynolds will play Conner MacLeod, a Highlander who discovers he is one of a dwindling group of immortals who wander the earth and kill each other in combat for the final “Prize” – mortality.

Of all the 80’s era properties that are getting reboots today, this is one that makes a ton of sense. Reynolds is a good actor, and has shown some real action chops in three unfortunate comic book movies. Hopefully this franchise will finally be the one that suits his specific talents.

Google Announces Nexus 7 Tablet, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and More!

This morning during the keynote event at Google’s I/O confrence in San Francisco, the company announced what many were expecting and many were looking forward to: a new Nexus 7 tablet, updated version of the Android OS and much more. Of course, the center of attention at the event was the new Asus-built Nexus 7 tablet.

Here’s what we know about the Nexus 7: The 7-inch tablet running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will have a 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor as well as 1280×800 IPS display with a 178-degree viewing angle. It will also have a 1.2-megapixel camera, 1GB of RAM, and a 4,235mAh battery that will get it 8 hours of battery life “during active use” or 9 hours of video playback.

The tablet weighs 340 grams, just shy of 12 ounces, and is 10.45mm thick. Both 8GB and 16GB configurations will be available. Bluetooth, WiFi, and NFC all come standard but there’s currently no version that works with 3G or 4G networks. Bummer that.

The Nexus 7 will cost $199 and will be available for pre-order in the Google Play Store today. It is expected to ship in mid-July.

Check This Out: ‘Video Game Rock Medley’

A few months ago on The Bitcast, WallE talked with me about some of the best and most memorable music in gaming with everything from Donkey Kong Country to Halo to even Ducktales. Many of us have spent years of our lives in front of video games and the most iconic songs are embedded in our heads. If you had to put together a soundtrack of the most iconic all smashed together, could you imagine what it’d sound like?

Swedish YouTube user and musician FreddeGedde (a.k.a. Freddie25) did and pieced together his own medley with some of these amazing pieces all together. Playing the guitar, keyboards, kazoo and tinwhistle all himself, FreddeGedde collaborated with drummer Louis Abramson to put together a piece that rings true to all of the original music highlighted within.

Take a look after the jump of FreddeGedde’s Video Game Rock Medley and his YouTube channel for more of his awesome work.

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Coming to Wii, DS and 3DS

If there was ever a movie to not surprise us with a tie-in video game announcement, Wreck-It Ralph would be it. What is surprising though is that the video game adaptation of Wreck-It Ralph, the Disney animated flick that revolves around a video game villain who wants to become the hero, is being limited to only the Nintendo platforms.

In the film Wreck-It Ralph, characters from all over gaming’s past and present make cameos from those we have seen to what is sure to be a bunch of star studded surprises as well. Whether that happens in the game remains to be seen.

Here’s the official word from Activision:

Get ready for classic arcade video game action with a whole new modern look and feel as Activision Publishing Inc. and Disney Interactive today announced a collaboration to produce and distribute a Wreck-It Ralph video game. As a story extension to the highly anticipated upcoming blockbuster film of the same name from Walt Disney Animation Studios, the Wreck-It Ralph video game is set to inspire a whole new generation of young gamers as a classic, arcade-style side scroller featuring Ralph – the misunderstood villain of his own arcade game who sets out to prove he can be a hero too.
