First ‘Star Wars: Episode 7’ Teaser Awakens

star-wars-ep-7-falcon-1

That’s right folks, it’s that time. Time for the brand new teaser for the trailer for the next Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens. And at only about 88 seconds, quite a tease it is.

In it you do get a few glimpses of some of the new faces coming up in the new movie. You also get to revisit some old friends (at least one) in the form of the ever-reliable Millennium Falcon.

You know the ship. It made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs. That is, if you believe a certain scoundrel’s account of past events.

At any rate, it’s here and it’s after the break. And yes, we kinda dig it and yes we’re pretty darn excited for the movie. But really, who isn’t?

Game Review: ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ for PlayStation 4

Call-of-Duty-Advanced-Warfare1

Another year, another COD, right? It is the one thing you can always count on to terrify publishers from releasing on the same date which makes the week’s purchasing decision a pretty easy one. You’re either getting Call of Duty or you’re not. There aren’t other games to even consider. But with this being the umpteenth release of the blockbuster franchise, how does it live up to previous years and even more importantly, how does it compare to the hype?

The Long

With their being three developers in the rotation now for the Call of Duty franchise, Sledgehammer enters the fray with a new IP with the Advanced Warfare story. A drastically different tone than either Black Ops 2 or Ghost, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare follows the world of the privatized military which are effectively government sanctioned mercenaries. As seen by all of the marketing materials, this corporation known as Atlas is headed up by the one and only Kevin Spacey and the role he takes as the player’s surrogate father after his own son is killed in combat.

Without giving too much information about the story, it follows pretty much every one of the expected beats. It’s not that it’s bad, but it is not going to surprise anyone either. It’s like going into a summer blockbuster that has no need for plot twists. It has a ton of polish and explosions that prevent you from having to think too hard.

M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘The Visit’ Acquired by Universal

m-night-shyamalan-the-visit

Director M. Night Shyamalan has partnered with Jason Blum of Bloomhouse Productions in order to produce a self-financed, low budget project he had been keeping under wraps. The film, called The Visit, is intended as a return to his earlier work and to productions outside the ‘traditional’ studio system.

The Visit concerns a brother and sister visiting their grandparents’ isolated Pennsylvania farm. Eventually, the youngsters discover the seniors are keeping a dark secret and it quickly becomes apparent to the children they may not be going home.

The Visit was written, directed and self financed by Shyamalan and shot near the director’s Pennsylvania home. The partnership with Blumhouse Productions allowed for a first-look arrangement with Universal and the company specialized in low budget genre pictures. Blumhouse’s most recent successful production was Ouija.

M. Night Shyamalan produced the film with Blum and Marc Bienstock, with Steven Schneider and Ashwin Rajan executive producing.

Universal Pictures has set September 11, 2015 as the release date.

Starz Moves Forward With ‘Evil Dead’ Series

evil-dead-bruce-campbell-1

Bruce Campbell is set to reprise his role as Ash in an upcoming Evil Dead series, which has received a greenlight from Starz to move forward with production. According to the program description, it does not appear much has changed for the iconic character originally portrayed by Campbell in the 1981 feature film The Evil Dead. The character of Ash appears to have remained an S-Mart employee living a fairly mediocre life; that is until the deadites show up and Ash must once again set aside his cowardly ways in order to save himself.

Sam Raimi is set to executive produce the series, as well as writing and directing the first episode. Robert Tapert will be also be joining the project as executive producer.

The Evil Dead series also marks the second time Starz will be working with Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert; the first partnership was on Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

The original announcement for an Evil Dead series had come during the last Comic-Con in July as Sam Raimi gently teased the posibility of a new show in development
