The Flickcast – Page 422 of 1030 – Stuff Nerds Love

Behold the Ridiculousness of ‘Saints Row: The Third’ In Brand New Gameplay Footage

We’re all pretty big gamers at The Flickcast HQ. Some of us are fans of shooters, adventure games, and even open world crime games. One problem most of us have with the latter is that games like Grand Theft Auto or L.A. Noir are based a little too much in reality for them to be as truly enjoyable as possible.

That’s where the Saints Row franchise comes in. The game is based loosely on the concept of a gang-riddled metropolis, but with the open world setting and the twist that absolutely anything can happen. That rule is getting completely amped in the third installment of the franchise, titled simply Saints Row: The Third.

We thought things were insane in the first two games, but this one has things like a giant purple dildo as a weapon, the ability to fly in a fighter jet through town, call in air strikes against your enemies, or just run around naked while punching people with explosive boxing gloves called the Apocofists.

This game has it all, and allows you to just cause complete chaos in a very cathartic experience for any gamer (preferably over the age of 16).

There’s a brand new gameplay video of the new features, with commentary from the game’s writer Drew Holmes, that we have waiting for you after the jump. Check it out, and be sure to grab Saints Row: The Third on November 15th.

Steven Spielberg’s ‘War Horse’ Adaptation Gets a Trailer

Things seem to be coming up Spielberg lately, as the iconic director/producer has been on a roll with new projects and productions. He recently turned heads everywhere when he teamed up with modern geek god J.J. Abrams for Super 8, then the first trailer for his Tin Tin film hits the web, and then Transformers 3 arrives.

Now his newest adaptation, War Horse, gets a hot new trailer.

Here’s the full scoop for the film from THR:

The World War I-set movie centers on a horse named Joey and his friendship with a farmer’s son named Albert (Jeremy Irvine). When the two are forcefully parted, the movie follows the horse’s journey through war as he changes and inspires the lives of everyone he meets.

Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch, Patrick Kennedy, Emily Watson, Toby Kebbell, David Thewlis, Eddie Marsa and Peter Mullan also star.

The movie is based on a children’s fiction novel by Michael Morpurgo, first published in 1982, and the 2007 stage adaptation of the same name.

The film is set to arrive in theaters on December 28th, just in time to hit what is now called the Avatar rush. But you can check out the very first trailer after the jump.

‘Captain America: Super Solider’ Profiles & Developer Dossier Released

With the Captain America: The First Avenger film racing towards us, we are also quickly approaching the July 19th release of the game Captain America: Super Solider. SEGA, presumably knowing that this game has to be a whole lot better than Thor: God of Thunder, has begun their hype machine releasing tons of new information to help people get ready for this important release.

First, take a look below at some screens and character descriptions for some of the game’s villains Baron von Strucker, Madame Hydra and the numerous snipers that Captain America will encounter.

Baron von Strucker

Baron Wolfgang von Strucker was born into Prussian nobility with familial association to the secret society known as Hydra. Ambitious, arrogant and harboring a particular distaste for the lower-class, Strucker quickly rose through Hydra, becoming proficient in both combat and tactics. Intercepted documents suggest he is pursuing development of advanced weaponry known as the “Satan Claw” for personal use.

First Teaser Trailer for ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ Arrives

Even though Tom Cruise occasionally does some unusual stuff in his personal and public life, that doesn’t mean his movies aren’t often entertaining. Let’s face it, he’s had some pretty good ones over the years from Risky Business and Taps to Top Gun, Jerry Maguire, A Few Good Men and more.

So, when Cruise has another movie coming out soon, we tend to take notice. This time around it’s the fourth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise subtitled Ghost Protocol.

Of course, now that there’s new trailer for the film, courtesy of Yahoo Movies, we’ve got it for you to check out right here. The trailer is also currently playing in front of Transformers: Dark of the Moon but since you probably not dumb enough to go see that flick, we’ll save you the trouble.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is directed by Brad Bird and hits theaters on December 16th. The film co-stars Ving Rhames, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Vladimir Mashkov, Michael Nyqvist, Josh Holloway, Simon Pegg, Lea Seydoux and Anil Kapoor.

Microsoft Launches Office 365 In the Cloud

Early Tuesday, Microsoft officially released Office 365, its new cloud-based Office product designed to compete directly with Google Docs and whatever Apple might decide to put up in conjunction with iCloud and the revamped Mobile Me expected later this year. The Office 365 suite, which has been in public beta for a while, is being mostly targeted at small business and the enterprise with plans for the entire suite costing between $6 and $24 per user per month, depending on features.

The small and medium-sized businesses that choose the more cost effective $6 option will only get Office Web Apps and Microsoft Exchange. Of course, any option you choose with Office 356 is still more expensive than the $50 annual fee Google charges each corporate user for access to its Google Docs suite. The service also included integration with devices such as Windows smartphones and iPhones.

I guess Microsoft must feel that people will be willing to pay a bit more for its suite of products that include Word, Excel and Powerpoint as well as Exchange. In truth, some companies pay quite a bit just for hosted Exchange so this may end up being a bargain for many businesses, especially those who want to stay in the Microsoft world but still try to cut costs.

We’ll see if this one takes off.  For more, check out the full press release from Microsoft after the jump.

Things I Don’t Want to See at San Diego Comic-Con (But Know I Will Anyway)

With E3 over, the next big summer event in the geek world is Comic-Con in San Diego. Every year, more than a hundred thousand people descend upon San Diego, taking over the city and enveloping it in geekdom.

There isn’t a corner you can turn without seeing a Green Lantern T-shirt or a bar you can walk into that doesn’t have a revised comic book inspired martini list. It is nerd paradise.

But, Comic-Con isn’t all Batmobiles and conversations with Jim Lee. There is a darker side to the Con that becomes increasingly apparent (and annoying) once you get there.

As much as we love the Con, there are a few things we wouldn’t mind living without for our week in San Diego.

Twilight

The past few years, Comic-Con has been invaded by screaming teenage girls and even louder overeager cougars in search of their first glimpse of the latest trailers of the Twilight saga. Twilight is not comics. It’s not even geek.

Ask any person on the street to tell you what they imagine a vampire looks like before Twilight came out and not a single one would mention “sparkles.” The vampires that most people love revolve around sex and violence, not good Christian values and celibacy. Real vampires don’t shimmer, they kill people.
