Amazon Releases Full Best Sellers of 2010 Lists

Amazon released its “Best of 2010″ lists late last week which highlight the online shopping powerhouse’s best-selling, most wished-for and most gifted products of the year. In the best-selling category, Amazon’s own Kindle topped the electronics category.

Kindle is now the best-selling product of all time on Amazon.com. Which, if you think about it, makes sense. It’s a great product and it has tight integration with the rest of Amazon. That’s what they call in the trade a “win win.” AT&T’s Samsung Captivate was Amazon’s best-selling device in the Wireless & Accessories category, reaffirming Android’s continued success in that market. Just sorry it had to be on AT&T’s network.

Call of Duty: Black Ops was Amazon’s best-selling video game, Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro topped the computer category and Sherlock Holmes was the company’s most streamed movie of 2010. So, kudos to Activision, Apple and Robert Downey, Jr.

More Previews for NBC’s ‘The Cape’ Arrive

The more we see of NBC’s upcoming new superhero show The Cape the more we hope it ends up being as good as it looks. The show seems to have a great deal of potential so let’s hope it lives up to it.

Plus, any show with Keith David, Vinnie Jones and Summer Glau at least deserves a chance. That’s a pretty cool cast. Not only that, but the main good guy (aka “The Cape” played by David Lyons) doesn’t seem so bad either. So, to help kicks things off and keep people interested, we’ve got some more video from the show to share with you today.

This time it’s three scenes from the premiere episode itself. In them we see Vince’s training in how to use his cape, the first time The Cape meets Summer Glau’s Orwell and the moment where the superhero first reveals his name. Oh, and did I mention Summer Glau is in this show? Yeah, we’re happy about that too.

Check out all three scenes after the break. The Cape arrives this Sunday night on NBC.

Game Review: ‘Kirby’s Epic Yarn’ for Wii

Everyone’s favorite pink puffball, Kirby, has made his debut to the Wii in the form of Kirby’s Epic Yarn, a colorful, adorable platformer that has rolled itself around my heart and refused to untangle. Throughout the entirety of playing this game, I have never ceased to stop laughing, smiling, and feeling like a 4 year old girl, as I romp, roll, and raced through the levels, making it one of my favorite games of 2010.

The most striking part of this game is the graphics. While the Wii’s graphics cannot begin to compete with the Xbox 360 or the Playstation 3, Kirby’s Epic Yarn takes the limitations of the Wii system and uses that to its advantage. The result is a gorgeous game world, which is all animated to look like fabric, as Kirby’s body gets transformed into yarn at the beginning of the game.

While the gimmic of former Kirbys was the ability to swallow your enemies and turn into various different versions of Kirby, Kirby’s Epic Yarn is quite different. In this game, Kirby has been turned into yarn and must travel through the fabric worlds and collect all the magic yarn, and players must use Kirby’s new state in a different way.

Sam Jackson & Luke Wilson Join ‘Meeting Evil’

Who says the first major casting news out of 2011 has to be boring? Not fans of either Sam Jackson, Luke Wilson, or films with the word Evil in them, as both have just been announced to star in the upcoming noir thriller Meeting Evil based on the book by Thomas Berger.

According to Louisiana’s Scene Magazine, this is one of a handful of new films being shot in New Orleans, thanks to the extra helpful tax breaks that the state of Louisiana offers. Here’s the scoop on the film.

Luke Wilson plays John Felton, a real estate salesman mired in depression resulting from the economic collapse. After being fired, he ends up going on a joy ride with a stranger named Richie (Samuel L. Jackson) that brings them down a path towards violence. Leslie Bibb stars as Felton’s wife. The script’s tone is described as moody with elements of dark comedy, a definite departure from Wilson’s usual light comedic fair.

As long as this film derives from both actors’ previous unfortunate frolics in the world of dark comedy like Jackson’s The Spirit or Wilson’s Death at a Funeral. This will also mark one of the films you can count on one hand that Jackson has signed on to that doesn’t include a Marvel character.

Meeting Evil is set to start shooting in New Orleans later this week.

Box Office: Those ‘Little Fockers’ Pick Off ‘True Grit’

True Grit and Little Fockers dropped off little from their opening weekend attendance, but in the end those Fockers reigned supreme. The movie managed to make about $26.3 Million in its second week of release. That’s a 15% drop, which sounds impressive, but its cumulative ($103 Million) can’t touch its predecessors (Meet the Fockers) total of $162 Millon in the same time frame.

A bit more impressive was the 1% drop of True Grit, which came in at number two with $24.5 Million. If you are a Coen Brothers fan (or even a staunch indie supporter) you should find this quite exciting.  After two short weeks, True Grit has grossed over $86 million, officially making it the highest grossing movie for the directing duo.

Box Office Mojo reports that True Grit is the best attended Western since 1993, when Tombstone graced the screen.

No Country for Old Men (2007) made just upward of $74 Million during its entire theatrical run, and that included an Oscar “bump” at the box office.  True Grit seems a lock to surpass $100 Million during its run.  The film had a (relatively) modest budget of about $38 Million, so it will be a success story.

Review: ‘Goldeneye 007’ for Wii

James Bond returns to familiar territory in Goldeneye 007 for Wii, which is a remake of the much-loved classic Goldeneye 007 for Nintendo 64. However, there’s a lot of changes in this new Wii version, and all of them are wise ones.

Daniel Craig’s Bond is now our star, and the gameplay is familiar yet foreign, allowing for a sense of nostalgia while still bringing a unique and new game to the Wii in the form of Goldeneye 007.

In Goldeneye 007 for Wii, the plot and gameplay of the Nintendo 64 game is maintained, but tailored to the Wii in a way that really works. Graphics are updated, and the story is tailored to fit Daniel Craig’s portrayal of Bond, details that make Craig’s appearance in this game make sense and bring a fresh experience to both newcomers to 007 and die-hard fans.

Transitions between gameplay and cut-scenes are seamless in this game, making it really enjoyable to experience the story of Goldeneye, whether you’re a fan of Bond or just a lover of a good ol’ fashioned shooter. Because we haven’t gotten a James Bond movie in quite some time, the top-notch cinematics and voice acting from Daniel Craig and Judie Dench almost make up for that.

The Flickcast Presents: Best of 2010 – Video Games Part 2

Earlier this week, we brought you some of our favorite and best video games of the year. We’ve got a bit more to get to, including Glitch of the Year, Most Addictive, and even the penultimate Game of the year. Here we go!

Glitch of the Year – Fallout: New Vegas – The Spinning Head

Games will have glitches. It is expected. With millions upon millions of lines of code, it is impossible to hammer out every minute detail. Thankfully with internet connectivity, these can often be fixed even the first day of a game’s release with a patch. One of the most surprising glitches to make it to retail however is the spinning head from Fallout: New Vegas. What makes this glitch most shocking is how early in the game it takes place. It is a sad mistake on the part of the normally expert team of Obsidian Entertainment who normally puts forth such high quality games. While some glitches add some humor to a title, this one is just plain weird and completely unnecessary.
