TV RECAP: ‘The Walking Dead’ Episode 409 : ‘After’

Walking Dead 409 Pic

One (and maybe the only) complaint I hear a lot about The Walking Dead is that it’s too boring and nothing ever happens. For the most part, I disagree with those assessments. Not this time though. This was a whole hour of nothing.

I was very tempted to just write a two or three sentence recap and just leave it at that, but I doubt that would drive readership. I’ll throw it in at the end for fun. The episode starts by showing the aftermath of the war between The Governor’s team and Rick’s. Basically only zombies remain, and the jail is on fire.

Michonne emerges from the woods and kills some zombies, before she turns two into slaves, much the same as she had when we first met her. She also finds Herschel’s decapitated head, which has turned. She stabs it, and is visibly upset.

She finds some footprints in the mud, but does not follow them. She chooses to go back into the woods. A flashback (as I thought, though it turned out to be a dream) is shown of Michonne in happier times. She is a sophisticated, wine drinking, museum going woman. She has a lover and a son. Slowly her dream changes, and her lover becomes a zombie, and her son disappears. Michonne awakes suddenly in the car she had fallen asleep in.

Back on the move, Michonne has integrated herself in a group of walker, using her zombie slaves as camouflage. She keeps looking at one (maybe a few) of the walkers as though she may know them. Michonne snaps and kills the walker she may have known, and ends up killing every walker around her, including her slaves. She goes back to the main road, and decides to now follow the footprints she ignored the first time.

‘Flappy Bird’ is Gone

Flappy_Bird_Get_Ready_Game_Over_610x356

I know. I can’t believe it. As quickly as Flappy Bird came to us, it has now left us. But in the process, it has left an eternal stamp on the gaming world that not many would have expected from a simple mobile game. Filling YouTube with rage quit videos and costing thousands of dollars in damage, Flappy Bird has clipped its own wings.

For those who don’t know, Flappy Bird was a game that came out and quickly became a viral hit much in the way that Angry Birds and Tiny Wings did (and it is completely ridiculous how popular birds are on mobile gaming). Unlike its avian cousins though, Flappy Bird was not easily accessible to all players.

Our parents and grandparents can’t just pickup and play and have a good time. Even seasoned gamers are terrible at Flappy Bird. After maxing out my high score at 6, I had to put down my iPhone or risk throwing it across the room.

Amazing Moments In the History of D&D On TV

dungeons-dragons-art-1

You may know Dungeons & Dragons, the venerable role playing game, turned 40 recently. Our own Chris Ullrich even did a post about it over at his personal site.

Turns out, D&D is still pretty much as popular as it ever was and people from all walks of life enjoy it. But that wasn’t always the case. Back in the day it wasn’t as well regarded and the depiction of it on popular media, like TV, was often inaccurate, to say the least.

Moving forward on that topic, the folks over at Geed Dad have put together some of their favorite clips showcasing D&D’s appearance on TV. From Freaks & Geeks to 60 Minutes to Community, D&D has been pervasive in popular culture for a long time and shows no signs of slowing down.

Check out most of the clips after the break.

Get the First Look at Warren Ellis’ ‘Moon Knight’ #1

Moon_Knight_1_Cover-crop

It should come as no surprise we’re big fans of writer Warren Ellis around here. His work is inspired and he brings a different sensibility to anything he takes on. In a great way.

So yes, we’re pretty excited (to say the least) he’s writing the upcoming Moon Knight comic series from Marvel. Want to know more? Of course you do.

“The touchtone for this book, for me, has been ‘Weird Crime.’ Both ground-level action and high strangeness,” says Ellis in an interview with Marvel.com. “This is a take on Moon Knight that unifies all the previous takes, making the character whole and taking him forward into a new kind of crime fiction.”

As a mercenary turned super hero, Marc Spector has faced down everything from werewolves, super villains to his own fractured psyche. Fearsome foes and gruesome threats permeate the darkest corners of New York City. Is Moon Knight ready for NYC? Better yet, is NYC ready for him?

Check out the preview pages after the break. Look for Moon Knight to arrive in stores on March 5.

Arnold Is Back (Again) In the Redband Trailer for ‘Sabotage’

TEN RZ PRINTS Arnold fires from atop truck Nov 19 2012 xl CH__0519.tif

Arnold is back again and this time it’s personal. Well, really, isn’t it pretty much always? Even when he’s a cyborg assassin from the future, it still ends up being personal. “Come with me if you want to live” and all that.

Anyway, his next action extravaganza is called Sabotage and there’s a new Redband trailer for it out now. Gotta say, this looks pretty darn good.

In the movie Arnold “leads an elite DEA task force that takes on the world’s deadliest drug cartels. When the team successfully executes a high-stakes raid on a cartel safe house, they think their work is done – until, one-by-one, the team members mysteriously start to be eliminated. As the body count rises, everyone is a suspect.”

We hate when that happens. Don’t you?

Check out the trailer after the break. Sabotage, which in addition to Arnold stars Sam Worthington, Terrence Howard, Joe Manganiello and Josh Holloway, hits theaters on March 28.

What the iPhone 6 Might Look Like

iphone-6vsiPhone-5

We don’t listen to the rumors surrounding the upcoming release of a new Apple product. Well, not very often anyway. Still, it is sometimes fun to speculate a little as to that the company may end up bringing to the table.

This time around our subject of speculation is the iPhone 6. We know there’s going to be one and we know it will likely come out in June or July. We also know it will probably have a larger screen.

But what will it really look like? This video, made by YouTube user Concepts iPhone, may just be able to tell us.

We won’t go into too much about the video itself because really, if this is your thing, you should just watch. After the break, of course.
