‘Maxx’ Creator Sam Keith Takes on ‘Mars Attacks: First Born’

Mars Attacks First Born

With Sam Keith recently tapped to relaunch a remastered version of his cult hit The Maxx through IDW, it only makes sense that the publisher would try to bring the famed creator in on another one of their franchises. While licensed titles with most companies fall flat, IDW is one of the few to take them and run to success by staying true to the original content but working well within the confines of comics. It ends up seeming like a natural pairing to put the man who created a purple clad giant with perpetual middle fingers that roamed the outback to take on one of the most comically messed up invasion forces ever.

Mars Attacks: First Born takes place in the aftermath of the failed Martian invasion. With the world devastated, people must begin to rebuild but the Martians have left something behind in a secluded neighborhood. Found by a group of kids, there is a Martian infant left amongst the rubble and the aftermath that follows it. The miniseries was written by Chris Ryall and coplotted by Sam Keith and Ryall with Keith taking sole duties on the covers and artwork.

Here’s the New Redband Trailer for ‘A Million Ways to Die In The West’

A_Million_Ways_to_Die_in_the_West-3

We can encapsulate this in a simple way. If you loved Ted as we did, you’ll love Seth MacFarlane’s next movie A Million Ways to Die In the West. It’s pretty much that simple.

Although, as far as we know, there’s no talking bear in this one, it does have plenty of horses and some hotties like Charlize Theron and Amanda Seyfried. So yeah, there’s that.

Also, it’s a Western and features Liam Neeson as the bad guy. Love it. Check out the Redband trailer after the break. And remember, this is NSFW. But still, enjoy. We know we will.

Look for A Million Ways to Die In the West to hit theaters on May 30.

The Fall Begins In Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four’ #1 And We’ve Got Previews

Fantastic_Four_1_Cover-crop

As crime fighting comic book families go, the Fantastic Four ranks as one of the greatest. Their exploits in the pages of comics and on the big screen have entertained millions of fans throughout the world. Now, Marvel is set to relaunch the team in a brand new comic series called, appropriately enough, Fantastic Four.

Here’s more from the Marvel’s mouth:

Cosmic explorers – heroes forever united as family. The world’s greatest comic magazine begins anew as Marvel’s First Family bursts back into the spotlight in FANTASTIC FOUR #1, from Eisner Award winning writer James Robinson and critically acclaimed artist Leonard Kirk.

The brilliant Mr. Fantastic, the compassionate Invisible Woman, hot-headed Human Torch, and the ever-lovin’ Thing return for a new ongoing series fraught with danger, excitement & intrigue. Only they won’t be met with new beginnings – but an untimely end!

“The team will be brought down,” says James Robinson, in an interview with Marvel.com. “Despite the fact these characters are a family and have always stuck together, there are forces that push them into directions you never thought you’d see.”

“Some rifts will be so big the Fantastic Four may never be the same,” added editor Mark Paniccia, “We’re talking about a serious, hardcore attempt at destroying them…not just on a physical level but emotionally as well.”

Check out the previews after the break. Look for Fantastic Four #1 to hit stores on February 19.

TV RECAP: ‘The Following’ Episode 202: ‘For Joe’

Following 202 Pic

In this week’s episode of The Following, Joe is living in Arkansas under an assumed identity.  The only ones who know who he really is are his girlfriend Judy and her daughter Mandy.  Joe’s new name is Daryl, and everyone thinks he is Judy’s brother, which is kind of mind boggling considering she is a prostitute and he just sits outside on a bench while she conducts her business.

Judy questions him about the cult subway murders, but he claims to know nothing about it.  She tells him that they have a good thing going and she doesn’t want it ruined.  They hug, and Joe has a certain “I’m a lying jackhole” look on his face.

Hardy is using his shamelessly promoted tablet and major name search engine to look up Lily Gray, the survivor of the subway attacks.  He finds that she is an art dealer and goes to see her.  He asks her a bunch of questions that the FBI already asked her, and she admits to him that she looked him up online.  I’m surprised they aren’t already in bed together.

So what I totally missed last week was that the girl the twins killed was not a totally random aside.  They had posed her dead body on a bench for the cops to find.  That went way over my head.  This week, Weston and Mendez determine that she was posed to reflect a certain passage in Joe Carroll’s book Gothic Sea.

‘Loudout’ Gets an Expletive Filled Launch Trailer from Rooster Teeth

Loadout Cover image

Tomorrow, a new Free-To-Play FPS takes the field to take on the king of the hill, Team Fortress 2. There are a lot of the same sensibilities and even certain aspects of the art style that can be seen in both Loadout and Team Fortress 2 but Loadout looks to deliver a much more over the top and immaturely “mature” experience. Loadout will be releasing tomorrow on Steam for PC.

As you’ll see in the trailer below (or if you watched any of their Let’s Play footage), the team from Rooster Teeth can’t help but fill the internet with their foul mouths when playing Loadout. The game lends itself to it so naturally.

With over 44,000,000 combinations of weapons that can be created and mashed together, it’s hard not to swear when you see your character survive an explosion that has blown most of their face off or left a hole clear in the center of their chest.

Here’s a Preview for Dark Horse’s ‘King Conan: The Conqueror’

KingConanConq1-crop

Like The Terminator, the character of Conan is also well-known on the big screen. Coincidentally, both characters were played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in movies. But, of course, you knew that.

But this time around we’re not talking about movies. We’re talking about a comic book. The comic in question is the upcoming Dark Horse release King Conan: The Conquerer.

In it “the deposed, fugitive Conan could uncover the key to regaining his throne—or he could get a knife in the back! Conan follows a lead to a lost relic, revisits an old friend, and finds that he’s not alone in his risky hunt for a missing, magical gem.”

Sound good. We’re in. Check out some preview pages for the comic after the break. Look for King Conan: The Conqueror #1 on sale February 26.
