Go Behind The Scenes Of The ‘Futurama’ Season Premiere

Good news, everyone! Yes…I have to start off every Futurama story with that exclamation. Why? Because we’re only hours away from season premiere of Futurama on Comedy Central. It’s been a tough battle since the days of Fox, but the show creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen fought hard, made a few DVD movies, and are now back on the air with a full season.

There are plenty of questions that we fans expect to get answered in upcoming episodes, like what happened to the Fry and Leela love story, or Bender’s foree in the League of Robots. Luckily, Comedy Central has put together a special Q&A with Cohen and Groening to answer a few of these questions before the one-hour premiere.

Take a look at the interview after the jump, as the two discuss topics like Fry’s middle name, and what ever happened to Kiff and Amy’s babies. Be sure to catch the hour-long season premiere of Futurama on Comedy Central this Thursday at 10pm/9pm Central.

This week we’ll be updating you a bit more in that department while previewing some of the more interesting pre-con announcements to cross our desk. Let’s get started, shall we?

SDCC has notified us that additional hotel rooms are now available in the Mission Valley area. Click here to view the specific hotels along with valuable shuttle route information you’ll need to know if you’re staying in this area. After 8:00 pm this shuttle route will originate from the Convention Center front driveway.

Checking your bag will run $2, however remember that bags cannot be left overnight.

If you’re interested in taking a load off, stop by the official location near Hall A and underneath the escalator in the lobby of  Hall E, on the ground floor level of the Convention Center. DC Comics Launches Digital Publishing

With several comic book publishers, including Marvel, already heavily invested in the digital comics space, it seems DC has now decided to get into the world of digital publishing as well. Today the company and its parent Warner Bros. announced it would partner with digital comics platform comiXology, and in a separate deal PlayStation Network, to begin offering comics in digital form to consumers.

In addition, the company will offer a free an application to read comics on iPhone, iPod and iPad devices. This application will launch today and be available in Apple’s iTunes Store.

Some of the comics that will be available digitally include classic DC, Vertigo and Wildstorm titles such as Batman: Hush, Green Lantern: Rebirth, Fables: Legends and Exiles, Planetary: Legends, Exiles: All Over the World and more. In addition, The Justice League: Generation Lost mini-series will be available via both platforms day and date with each issue’s printed release.

Pricing for the digital titles will be tiered from $.99 to $2.99 an issue. Check out the full press release for the announcement after the jump.

So, now that DC has entered the digital space along with Marvel and other publishers, what will this mean for comics retailers? Will we soon see the end of comic book stores?

E3 XTRA: ‘Lucha Libre AAA: Héroes del Ring’ E3 Trailer

In the US, there are only two major names in professional wrestling. WWE and TNA. And while Ring of Honor is working its way to become a closer third, it just can’t match the major production budgets that WWE and TNA produce. But wrestling doesn’t revolve just around America. Japan and Mexico each have their own wrestling companies with fans maybe even more intense and fanatical than their American counterparts. And in Mexico, there is nothing bigger than Lucha Libre AAA.

Lucha Libre AAA: Héroes del Ring brings together some of the biggest names in Lucha Libre for a six sided action packed wrestling experience. The game sets itself apart from WWE and TNA games by focusing more on the intensity and athleticism of Lucha Libre instead of the story focus of WWE and TNA.

For those not familiar with AAA, there is a surprisingly large number of recognizable faces there for American pro wrestling fans. Most fans of WWE and WCW will remember the names and faces of men like La Parka, Konnan, Psicosis, Vampiro, Juventud Guerrera and current TNA wrestler X-Pac. In addition, AAA has built itself a stable of well known wrestlers that are Mexican equivalents to John Cena and Triple H. Some of these include Electroshock, Cibernético, Dr. Wagner, Jr. And Teddy Hart (nephew of wrestling legend, Bret Hart).

Lucha Libre AAA: Héroes del Ring is being published by Konami and will be released on August 9th on the XBox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and Nintendo DSi platforms. After the jump, check out the E3 trailer and let us know what you think!

Review: ‘Knight and Day’

I enjoyed Knight and Day quite a bit more than I expected to. Mind you, the bar was scraping the ground when I entered the theater. I thought the movie would be a complete disaster. Tom Cruise wore out his welcome with me long before the infamous couch jumping antics,  and while I generally enjoy Diaz, I just wasn’t sure about her playing opposite Cruise.

Cruise stars as CIA agent Roy Miller, who is on the run from his handlers.  He is feverishly  casing an airport when he spies June (played by Cameron Diaz.) Shortly thereafter, he  deliberately bumps into her, staging a “chance” encounter.

A few moments later, the two run into one another again, and you can practically see the gears going in June’s head.  Cute guy+fate = romantic opportunity. Her daydreaming is derailed when she is denied entrance onto the plane that her new friend is boarding.  He assures her, “Everything happens for a reason.”

First Trailer For Comic Convention Documentary ‘The Con’ Hits The Web

Over the past few decades, the concept of the “comic convention” has gone from the dank basements without air conditioning where sweaty fanboys gather to pick through old comics back issues that they can’t find anywhere else, to multi-million dollar franchise and major media show which has become the San Diego Comic-Con.

Documentarian John P. McGarr has taken that evolution down on film, and brought to us The Con. The synopsis at least explains it better.

THE CON is a documentary about conventions over six years in the making, covering over twenty shows. Horror, comic, sci-fi, adult conventions and more! From OJ Simpson’s infamous appearance at the NecroComicon horror convention to San Diego Comic Con, fans, celebrities, promoters and vendors (even the bootleggers!) share their experiences and explain why they’re part of THE CON!

Stan Lee may be apart of this film as a talking head, but this isn’t actually the Morgan Spurlock/Stan Lee comic convention documentary that’s also in production. Check out the full trailer after the jump, keep your eyes peeled for copies of The Con surfacing around local convention DVD booths, ironically enough.

E3 2010 XTRA: ‘Magic: The Gathering – Tactics’ Trailer

17 years and over fifty expansions to the card game, Magic: The Gathering is still with us. In addition, the franchise has spawned eight video game releases as well, all with variations of the popular card game’s rules. Some have been direct ports while others take the game in completely new directions. With this year’s E3, Sony Online Entertainment has chosen to step up with one of these new playstyles for the Magic series and introduced Magic: The GatheringTactics.

Taking a page from Final Fantasy: Tactics, players play out their monsters and spells on a board and swap back and forth until all of their opponents creatures are dead. It’s somewhat surprising this is the first time Magic has been fought in such a manner.

One would think with the huge variety of characters available to it, this combination would have been a no-brainer. Sony has already confirmed famed characters such as the Lord of the Pit, Raya Dawnbringer and Serra Angel to appear in the game alongside classic spells like Fireball, Ancestral Recall and Lightning Bolt

Sony Online Entertainment will be bringing this title exclusively to the PlayStation 3 and PC. No XBox 360 plans have been made for the title. Take a look below at the E3 Trailer for Magic: The Gathering – Tactics and some screen shots of the upcoming title.
