Michael Trucco Goes From Cylon to Resistance Leader In ‘V’

Battlestar Galactica veteran Michael Trucco is going from playing Starbuck’s husband and one of the “Final Five” Cylons on that show to playing a lizard alien on ABC’s V. He will be taking on the role of “mysterious resistance leader” John May for at least one episode when the show returns next month.

As you may know if you watch the show, May is the founder and leader of the Fifth Column, a group of Vs who are fighting against their race’s plans for the domination of Earth and humanity. Ryan (Morris Chestnut), a sleeper V who has been on Earth since before the Visitors arrived, once was involved in the resistance and worked with May.

Now he and humans Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell) and Father Jack (Joel Gretsch) are attempting to resurrect the Fifth Column, with the help of May, and hopefully bring an end to the V’s plans for world domination. Sounds like a plan. Let’s hope they succeed.

V will return to ABC on March 30 with eight new episodes. Hopefully, it won’t go away again for three months after that, which is a pretty odd strategy if you’re trying to build an audience for a show.

So far, Trucco is set to appear as John May in an episode airing on April 13, but I’m sure if he does well and audiences respond, you can expect to see a lot more of him.

Summit Hires ‘The Crazies’ Writer For Dracula Remake

One would think that the overwhelming success of Summit Entertainment’s Twilight series would spark a resurgence of the classic Universal monsters, but in the end it took Universal itself to get things back into the public eye, with this weekend’s release of The Wolfman.

First, news comes that a new Frankenstein project is in the works. Now Summit has decided to drop their their hat into the vampire ring again with a new Dracula project.

The studio has been planning this remake of the Dracula story for some time, but they’ve now made things serious by hiring The Machinist writer Scott Kosar to clean up the script. The original screenplay comes from Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam, who had never written a feature script until now.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story takes an “action-oriented look at Dracula, or Vlad the Impaler, as a young prince.” With music video director Anthony Mandler signed on to direct, Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B producing, and Summit taking the helm, expect to see this film make plenty of waves when the time comes.

‘Defendor’ Gets An Official Trailer and DVD Release

Back in September, we brought you word of an indie superhero flick out of Canada making some waves at the Toronto Film Festival. It looks like the film has now grown in popularity and moved South, as it’s getting an official DVD release with Sony Pictures, and a limited theatrical run as well.

The film stars Woody Harrelson as a mentally disturbed man named Arthur Poppington who decides to take justice back in his city and fight crime as the masked avenger, The Defendor. The film also stars Kat Dennings, Sandra Oh, and Elias Koteas, which rounds out the cast to a pretty decent level.

Either way, Harrelson’s performance has gotten rave reviews, and will be hitting New York and Los Angeles in a few months to coincide with it’s April 13th release date on DVD.

The studio amped up the marketing with a new trailer, which you can check out after the jump, thanks to our pals at Trailer Addict.

Dean Koontz’s ‘Frankenstein’ Coming To The Silver Screen

With Universal’s The Wolfman bringing in over $30 Million in its first weekend, it’s only expected that other studios will be giving the green light to some interesting scripts involving some of Hollywood’s other classic monsters. The first news of that is that Dean Koontz’s best-selling Frankenstein book series, a 21st century spin on the classic tale, is getting an adaptation to the big screen.

According to Variety, the film may just put the good doctor and his creation into the passenger seat for a bigger murder plot.

Project places the doctor — a socially prominent and successful businessman — and his super-human original creation Deucalion in modern-day New Orleans. Winter and Botwick are aiming to launch a franchise. “These books have enough twists and turns to keep the public coming back to the theaters for many years to come,” the duo said.

The story centers on a pair of street-smart detectives who encounter Deucalion while investigating a murder, leading them to a bizarre array of “engineered” humans.

“I’m an Avenger.”, “So What? I’m a Secret Avenger!”

Captain America (Bucky)

Note: This article may contain spoilers. If you dont care about that, read on.

Norman Osborn is going down. There’s no doubt about it. The “Dark Reign” looks to be collapsing and as casualties on both sides pile up in Seige, the dawn of the Heroic Age is just around the corner.

With the Heroic Age coming, some Marvel books will be coming to an end, most notably New Avengers. In the aptly named New Avengers: Finale, scribe Brian Michael Bendis and artist Bryan Hitch will tie up the loose ends of every New Avengers tale that has led to this point. With no cover image even leaking on to the internet yet, no one knows exactly what’s to come from this book.

This will all come to a head in April, giving perfect timing for Marvel’s latest set of promotional art entitled, “I’m an Avenger” and “I’m a Secret Avenger”. With a “May 2010” tag, these pieces feature work from John Romita Jr. and show some of the current stars expected to be present in the Avengers team post-Siege. The most shocking has Hawkeye, not Ronin, pictured which could mean that Clint Barton may finally be returning to the good old purple and blue.

The five “secret” pieces show simple silhouettes of various members of the new Secret Avengers along with different quotes they’d use to describe themselves. Of the Secret Avengers thus far there are many theories going on about who might be on the team.

Take a look for yourself at them all below and let us know who you think may be screaming for their team to “Assemble!” come May.

The January 2010 NPD Numbers

Numbers of console and games sales were released by the NPD group for the month of January 2010 today with some not so surprising results. The Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS (including the DSi SKU’s) lead the console war as they continue to dominate this generation in terms of sales. Even after their record setting Wii sales in December, the little white box with waggle controls still is flying off shelves. With that comes five of the top games being Wii titles.

The griefer’s paradise New Super Mario Bros Wii tops their charts, follwed by evergreen favorite Wii titles like Wii Fitt Plus, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Sports Resort. The only surprise on the Wii comes from the critically panned Just Dance from Ubisoft (averaging a score of 47 from Metacritic).

XBox 360 surged back in front of the PlayStation 3, no doubt with some help of their over half a million selling release of Mass Effect 2. The XBox 360’s version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 also outsold the PS3 version by a firm 65,000 units. Co-op shooter Army of Two: The 40th Day debutted on the charts in the number 8 spot, followed by the apocalyptic release of Darksiders, both the games being the XBox 360 versions.
