Peter Sarsgaard Cast As Villain In ‘Green Lantern’?

Opening+Night+Seagull+Curtain+Call+After+Party+5Af83v_6N0AlWhile he may still be technically in “negotiations” with Warner about the role, many sources are citing that Peter Sarsgaard has signed on to Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern to play opposite Ryan Reynolds. The role in question is that of Dr. Hector Hammond, the would-be main villain of the film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision, who originally broke the story, this villain doesn’t seem to be one many remember.

Sarsgaard will play Dr. Hector Hammond, the pathologist son of a senator who is seen as a disappointment in his father’s eyes. He becomes infused with psychic powers when he discovers a meteor. The character was created by John Broome and Gil Kane in the early 1960s.

This puts an end to the rumor that the villain of the film would be Sinestro, which is the Green Lantern’s most obvious villain. An interesting route to take, but it looks like Campbell is casting young for the film. Between Reynolds, Blake Lively (Gossip Girl) as Carol Ferris, and now Sarsgaard, it seems that the cast will be aimed at a younger demographic.

Green Lantern is set to shoot this March in New Orleans.

NES Style ‘Left 4 Dead’ Available for Free Download

Pixel Force Left 4 Dead Title ScreenAnyone who comes to this site knows we love to pass along anything that touches the bottom of our geek hearts. Many times, these come in the way of fan films.

But today it’s a special treat with a free PC game. Through his website Eric Ruth Games,  a developer has posted his portfolio of 8-Bit style games which includes, you guessed it, a classic NES style version of 2008’s megahit, Left 4 Dead.

Entitled Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead, players step in to an 8-bit version of the four original campaigns of L4D. Either single or two player from one keyboard (sorry, no XBox Live or Steam connectivity here), gamers get to take a peek at what this genre defining game would have looked like had it come out twenty years ago in the days before graphics accelerators and first person shooters.

Twilight Producers Say ‘Breaking Dawn’ May Be Unfilmable

Picture 1While Twilight: New Moon has been sweeping the nation since it’s release last year, and Eclipse already in the can, producers of the franchise realize that they need to look forward to the final book in the series, Breaking Dawn. Unfortunately, nobody seemed to think the films would get this far, as producers are now stumped on how to film some of the outrageous moments of the final book.

For those like myself who have no intention on reading the books, [SPOILERS BE HERE] in the final book Bella becomes pregnant with Edward’s baby, and while pregnant, the baby grows at an accelerated rate. The baby begins to claw it’s way out of the womb, before Edward uses his teeth to perform a makeshift cesarean. They later discover that the baby has psychic powers and werewolf Jacob falls in love with it.

It looks like producers over at Summit finally read Breaking Dawn for the first time and realized that they may be screwed. From the L.A. Times:

Wyck Godfrey, the producer of all the films in the “Twilight” saga, admits that the creative team still doesn’t know how they’ll handle the character in the “Breaking Dawn” movie, but said that the plan is absolutely for the production to go forward — as either one or two installments — with an eye toward beginning to shoot in Vancouver this fall. All three stars are signed for “Breaking Dawn,” he said, meaning that Stewart and Pattinson will be dealing with the joys and woes of interspecies parenting and newly minted heartthrob Taylor Lautner will return as often-shirtless shape-shifter Jacob Black.

Four Clips From This Week’s ‘Community’

NUP_138039_0057Much like the rest of the college youth, Community makes it’s return to school this week, starting up the Spring semester with new stories, new laughs, and even new faces. Kicking off the second half of this season, guest star Jack Black will be stopping by to play. . . Jack Black?

Well, not really. Black is playing Buddy, a fellow classmate of the Spanish study group’s. This character breaks into song at random times, skats, and jumps around impishly, which is the exact opposite of the Jack Black we’ve come to know. In the episode, Buddy tries to join in on the study group, seeing all the fun they have, buy ends up causing more harm than help.

It’s not that outrageous that Black would guest star on an NBC sitcom. Not only did he have a quirky cameo in an episode of The Office, but he’s also good friends with show creator Dan Harmon. Black and Harmon worked on previous projects such as Laser Fart and Heat Vision and Jack, the latter of which being a failed Ben Stiller pilot about a man and his talking motorcycle.

Check out the clips after the jump, and be sure to catch this week’s new Community on NBC this Thursday at 8pm Eastern.

First ‘Blood Bowl’ Announcement Trailer and Screen Shots

Blood Bowl Xbox 360 Box ArtEvery geek has at one point wandered through their local comics or gaming store and come across the miniatures gaming section. Some stores merely carry a few items while others have full sections dedicated to Mechwarrior, Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Fantasy. One game that has made its way back on and off the store shelves over the years has also been Blood Bowl.

A mix of American football, rugby and the Warhammer Fantasy universe, Blood Bowl sets teams of miniature figures against each other to score touchdowns or beat the opposing team in to oblivion. After numerous ups and downs in the game’s development it looks like the over the top fantasy football “simulation” will be coming to video game consoles with SouthPeak Games’ Bloodbowl. Retail Windows PC and XBox 360 versions of the game are set for release this month with a PSP version of the game coming in the spring.

From SouthPeak Games Press Release: “Just in time for the human football season’s end, SouthPeak is here to offer a less than traditional spin on classic football. With a rich heritage of table-top gaming, Blood Bowl is poised to tear your Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PSP system a new end zone.

With turn-based gameplay and each play teetering on the roll of the dice, Blood Bowl will keep you on the edge of your seat from kickoff to final score. Inspired by the infamous Warhammer series, Blood Bowl brings some of the most vicious gameplay, dirty tricks and lest we forget – secret weapons – to the field in an all new way.”

Take a look below at some of the screens and trailer for the upcoming game and stay tuned to The Flickcast for more information as it comes.
