Latest Trailer for ‘Tony Hawk: RIDE’

To me, riding a skateboard is up there with other sports like surfing. I’ve tried it but I am in no way ever going to be as good at it as someone like Tony Hawk. He has the tools, the talent and the drive to become one of the greatest skateboarders the world has ever known. He’s also become a pretty huge gaming mogul in his spare time with a whole slew of games bearing his name.

His latest, called Tony Hawk: RIDE, is another in a series of what looks to be hugely successful games bearing the Hawk moniker. In this one, you actually ride the game controller version of a skateboard and try your best to shred like Mr. Hawk. The game also has a story to it as well and in this new trailer, graciously provided by our good friends at Activision, that part is showcased. Well, sorta.

To understand, just click through and watch the trailer for yourself. Its funny and it has a heart. . . in the right place. Tony Hawk: RIDE, from Activision and Robomodo, hits store shelves for XBox 360 and PS3 on November 17th.

First Trailer for Broken Lizard’s ‘The Slammin Salmon’

The comedic team of Broken Lizard has made it’s way into the hearts of many moviegoers over the past 8 years since their wide release Super Troopers in 2001. Since then, they have had some hits, such as Beerfest, and some flops, such as Club Dread. After seeing this newest trailer for The Slammin’ Salmon, it may be safe to say that we’re looking at the troupe’s next hit.

The film is about a retired boxer-turned restaurant owner who is indebted to the mob and issues a contest to his staff to see who can make the most money in an evening. Of course, his staff is made up of the Broken Lizard regulars, and hilarity ensues from there.

The film stars the regular cast of characters, with Kevin Heffernan taking the director’s chair this time. Also joining in the fun time is Michael Clarke Duncan, Jim Gaffigan, Olivia Munn, and How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders.

Three New Clips From Tonight’s ‘House’

For the most part, medical dramas tend to come and go pretty regularly on network TV. Some stick around and have a pretty successful run, such as E.R. or Chicago Hope, and some are long gone before you can even remember the show’s name, like Heartland starring Treat Williams. Thankfully, FOX’s House falls under the former category.

Now in it’s sixth season, House is picking up steam like never before, and we’ve got some brand new clips from tonight’s episode, “Known Unknowns.” In the episode, House must deal with the perils of the office while away at a medical conference, while Foreman (Omar Epps) treats a returning patient.

In the first clip, the sardonic Hugh Laurie as House discusses his distaste for the returning trend of the 1980s. In the second, Foreman checks out a former patient who goes through some hallucinations that could prove deadly. In the final clip, Dr Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) confesses her problems with Dr. House.

Marvel’s ‘Super Hero Squad’ Heads for Primetime

marvel-super-hero-squad For many people, comics are thought of as something for kids. Although I know many adults who read comics and titles seem to be geared more towards adults these days, its nice to see that a company hasn’t forgotten that kids do make up a portion of their audience.

Case in point is Marvel’s Super Hero Squad TV program, which is now moving to a primitime gig on Cartoon Network. Here’s all the latest info from the official press release.

On Saturday morning, September 19th, The Super Hero Squad Show burst onto television screens across the nation on Cartoon Network to rave reviews and a huge audience. It instantly became the Network’s #1 show for Boys 6-8 and has continued its heroic growth in that demographic, increasing that audience by nearly 30%.

Thanks to the tremendous success the show has seen on Saturday mornings, the greatest Super Heroes in the Marvel Universe are ready to make the leap to primetime! Starting this past Saturday, November 7th, The Super Hero Squad Show made its heroic debut on Saturday nights at 7:30PM as part of Cartoon Network’s incredible prime time line-up.

Verizon Sends iPhone to ‘The Island of Misfit Toys’ In New Ad

verizon-island-of-misfit-toys Things are starting to get a bit heated between everyone’s favorite fruit-flavored technology company, Apple, and what is pretty much acknowledged as the best wireless network, Verizon. Recently, Apple filed a lawsuit against rival Verizon for, among other things, its use of the “There’s an app for that” slogan during its commercials.

In response, Verizon dropped a few new holiday-themed ads poking fun at Apple’s iPhone and sending it to the classic “Island of Misfit Toys” where unwanted presents go do die. With all the back-and-forth, I certainly hope this doesn’t stop the iPhone from coming to Verizon’s network sometime while I’m still young enough to read the screen.

With rumors circulating that this blessed event may happen sometime in 2010, I guess there’s still a bit of time for Apple and Verizon to get all this snark out of their systems. At least I hope so. Check out the very amusing commercial after the break.

Michael Trucco Will Be ‘Facing Kate’

Michael-Trucco Among its many virtues (and believe me, there were many) Battlestar Galactica had a terrific bunch of actors in it. Because of their high quality, its should really be no surprise that many of them, including Katee Sackhoff and Tricia Helfer to name a few, have gone on to do more work in TV and look to have long careers ahead of them. To that list we can add one more name: Michael Trucco.

Trucco, along with How I Met Your Mother co-star Virginia Williams, are set to star opposite Sarah Shahi (last seen on of one of my favorite recent shows Life) in the upcoming USA drama pilot Facing Kate. The show, in case you’re not familiar, concerns a divorced San Francisco woman (Shahi) who leaves her job as a lawyer to become a mediator following the death of her father, who headed a law firm.

Trucco will play Kate’s ex-husband, who’s also an attorney, a charmer, and who, surprise surprise, still has feelings for her. Williams will play Kate’s “obsessive and controlling younger stepmother who is determined to keep her husband’s firm.” Could be interesting. And really, who doesn’t want to see Anders in more shows? I know I do. He’s cool.

Box Office: An Indie Racks Up Some ‘Precious’ Per Screen Totals

Sure, technically Jim Carrey and company won the weekend with the 3D animated adventure A Christmas Carol, but the real reason everyone’s talking about this weekend’s box office is because of another movie’s totals.

Remember a few weeks ago when I was talking about how unbelievable it was that Paranormal Activity had a per screen average of $44,000? Well a little indie called Precious came in and mopped the floor with those totals. Precious played in just 18 theaters and grossed $1.8 million. Folks, that’s a $100,000 per screen average. To put that in perspective, if A Christmas Carol had the same per screen average, it would have grossed over $360 million (instead of $31 million).

This indicates a high degree of interest in the movie, and this weekend’s total will only add to that. Additionally, some people have been throwing around the “O” word, as in Oscar. It received a standing ovation at Cannes, and an audience award at Sundance. It will slowly be rolling out over the next few weeks, and is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Review: ‘The Box’

About a week ago a colleague of mine asked why in the world I wanted to go see The Box. I explained that I found the premise fascinating. What if you were told that if you pushed a certain button, you would get a million dollars, but there is a catch. When you push the button, somebody you do not know will die. What would you do?

Therein lies the premise of The Box. This is the third film by Richard Kelly, who garnered cult-like status with Donnie Darko (2001), then wide ridicule for his follow up Southland Tales (2006). Lots of movie types were looking toward this movie to determine whether Kelly is a gifted director, or a one hit wonder. I’m sorry to tell you after viewing this convoluted mess, it seems like a case of the director having no clothes. It’s one thing to be a little avant-garde with your vision, another entirely to just throw weird crap in your movie and hope that it sticks.
