With 2009 and the ‘aughts’ portion of the new millennium coming to a close, Chris and Matt decided to forgo the usual news and commentary for this special episode of The Flickcast and instead, focus on some of the great movies, tv, comics, games and all things geek that were the best of 2009. In addition, the boys also made some picks of one or two of the highlights of the entire ‘aughts’ decade.
Some of the topics discussed include Chris and Matt’s favorite movies of 2009 such as Star Trek, Inglourious Basterds, Zombieland and Drag Me to Hell as well as some of their favorite 2009 tv shows including Community, Cougar Town and continuing series such as Fringe and The Big Bang Theory. The boys also made some picks of their favorite comics and games of the year including Blackest Night, Old Man Logan, Modern Warfare 2 and Ultimate Alliance 2.

Previously, we brought you the first of our two new video game trailers for today. That one was for the upcoming Electronic Arts and Double Fine game Brutal Legend, featuring the voice and likeness of Jack Black. This time we’ve got the brand new launch trailer for the highly anticipated sequel Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 from Activision.
In this trailer, you get the most complete look at the game ever released and can see just how cool its going to be. I’m particularly excited for this game because of all the great Marvel characters you get to play as. Plus, after having played it a bit during Comic-Con in San Diego, I can say for sure that its pretty damn fun.
The game is “the greatest Super Hero action/RPG of all time is back with the world’s largest army of heroes and villains in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2. Incorporating elements of the acclaimed Marvel Civil War storyline, players must choose their side and team up to battle or interact with returning favorites and all-new characters, including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Hulk, Iron Man, Deadpool, Venom, Green Goblin, Iron Fist and Captain America, whose powers can be combined to unleash astonishing new attacks.” Once again, awesome is the word of the day.
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 ships to stores on September 15th for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP and DS. Until then, click through to watch the awesome (See what I did there?) new launch trailer.
With all the movies, TV and comics news that came out of Comic-Con in San Diego, let’s not forget that the video game industry was also at the Con in a big, big way. One of the many game companies with a presence at the show was Activision, who debuet clips and new gameplay from their upcoming games Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and Singularity.
Previously, we brought you some cool video for both of these games and now, after attending an exclusive Activision event on Wednesday night during the Con, we can now bring you the brand new trailer for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 seen only by those in attendance. This new trailer brings you firmly into the world of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and demonstrates just how many characters, action, bad guys and just plain fun this game is going to be.
Plus, who doesn’t like to pretend to be Deadpool and spin around, guns blazing, spraying lead in all directions? Sounds like fun to me. The game itself debuts in September, but in the meantime, this new trailer is just-plain kick-ass. Be sure to check out the full trailer after the jump.
With all the movies, TV and comics news this week at Comic-Con in San Diego, let’s not forget that the video game industry has also descended on the Con with a vengeance this year. One of the many game companies with a presence at the show is Activision, who are debuting clips and new gameplay from their upcoming games Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and Singularity.
Previously, we brought you some cool video for both of these games and now, after attending an exclusive Activision event on Wednesday night, we can bring you these brand new videos of Gambit and Jean Grey, who figure prominently in the game. The game itself debuts in September, but in the meantime, these videos are pretty kick-ass.
Here in Los Angeles at the E3 show, we managed to get into a few cool game demos at the Activision booth to see some footage and experience games including Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, Wolfenstein and Raven’s new, secret title Singularity. We also managed to snag some great trailers for these games as well and can bring them to you now.
These trailers highlight a lot of the games’ action and many of the things we think make video games as fun as they are: interesting and engaging stories, beautiful graphics, intense situations and of course, explosions and shooting bad guys in the head. Of course, these are previously rendered scenes, not actual gameplay footage, so they look really nice.
Although, during the live demos we saw at E3 today, the games all looked pretty darn good during actual gameplay as well. I guess that just shows you how good the XBox 360 gaming platform is. Its pretty powerful.
Plus, those programmers and artists at the game’s publishers really seem to know what they’re doing, which helps. Check out all three trailers after the break.
In addition to all the other things we love including movies, tv, comics and other geeky goodness, we also love video games around here. Fortunately, the video game business is booming and there’s always some great games coming down the pipeline for us to see, experience and, most importantly, play. One of those cool games hitting stores soon is the sequel to one of my personal favorite games Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.
This time around, Activision and Vicarious Visions have teemed up to produce Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 which follows the same basic tenents of the first game and follows Marvel’s Civil War story arc. In the game, players will choose who they want to be and take up their cause, fighting all along the way.
To demonstrate just how cool this game is going to be, Activision has released another video from the game featuring the character Deadpool. And yes, it looks pretty awesome. The game drops in the Fall. Meantime, check out the video because, well, it rocks.
