Holiday Gift Ideas: What To Grab on Black Friday

by Matt Raub, Nov 26 2009 // 11:00 AM

Screen shot 2009-11-26 at 3.10.38 AMWhile most folks like to sleep in after consuming mass quantities of tryptophan and sweet potatoes on Thanksgiving day, some crazies (myself included) are up at the crack of dawn the next day, waiting in line at the local electronics and DVD store to fight the masses and get the best deals.

Luckily, with the invention of the Internet comes some sly dogs who have posted most of the great Black Friday deals online, mere days before the epic sales. Thanks to sites like BlackFriday.info and GottaDeal.com, we can now sit back in the luxury of our homes to check out some of the great deals we plan on taking advantage of this Friday.

Of the many, many deals going on that day, we’ve decided to break down a few of our favorite picks for the holiday sale, just for you, our loyal readers. One of the best picks, by far, is Best Buy’s Samsung Blu-Ray Player with Netflix and Pandora support for $149.99. If you’re looking to finally upgrade to Blu-ray, that would be the machine to start with.

Once you’ve got the Blu-ray player out of the way, why not grab some good Blu-ray discs? If you don’t want to leave the house, Amazon has got some great deals including Chuck: The Complete First Season for $20.99, the Batman Anthology for $51.99, and even Ocean’s Eleven and Twelve for $9.99.

Switching over to video games, Best Buy seems to have some of the better deals (even the “best”), but only if you’re able to get to the store before noon on Friday. You can pick up Brutal Legend, Left 4 Dead 2, and Dragon Age for the Next Gen systems for only $34.99.

These are just some of the great deals going on Friday, and we hope you’re able to get out to the stores (or not) and take advantage of some of these great sales. Happy Thanksgiving!

New ‘Brutal Legend’ Story Trailer

by Chris Ullrich, Sep 11 2009 // 1:30 PM

brutal-legend-jack-blackHere at the site you may have realized that, among other things, we’re really fond of video games. In fact, we try to feature as much gaming coverage as we can because we like it so much. So, with that in mind, we’ve got the first of today’s two new trailers for upcoming games to share with you.

This one is for the brand new Electronic Arts and Double Fine title Brutal Legend and features a look at the story of the game and gives you a lot of insight into just how fun this game is going to be. Plus, it features the game’s main character Eddie Riggs (voiced by Jack Black) “rocking out on his heavy metal revolution.”

In the game, Riggs “sets on an epic quest to build an army of rockers with only a broad axe, a big block V8 and his faithful guitar in hand. When an oppressed people request Eddie’s knowledge of modern warfare, he pulls from his own experience in the only occupation he’s ever had, a roadie for a Heavy Metal band. From this springs the most hellacious army man has ever seen, and thus brings this ancient world into the Age of Metal.” Awesome.

Brutal Legend hits store shelves on October 13th. In the meantime, click through to check out the brand new story trailer.

E3 2009: Activision Sues to Keep Jack Black Video Game Off Shelves

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 4 2009 // 12:30 PM

brutal_legendIt wouldn’t be America without lawsuits so here’s another one to bring you today. According to The Hollywood Reporter, video game giant Activision is suing to stop the release of the Jack Black video game Brutal Legend.

THR got the news from The AP, which says: “Activision Entertainment Holdings sued game developer Double Fine Productions in Santa Monica, Calif., on Wednesday. The lawsuit claims that Double Fine transferred rights owned by Activision to Electronic Arts, which plans to release the game later this year. Activision claims it still has a valid contract to release the game and has invested roughly $15 million in it.”

Brutal Legend features Black as a heavy-metal roadie transported to a mythical world to fight evil. The game looks pretty cool and seeing footage of it at E3 made me want to check it out more when it finally gets released. Although, with this lawsuit, that may never happen now so perhaps I should have played it a bit more when I had the chance. Can’t we all just get along? I guess not when there’s $15 Million involved.

To see more about the game, watch the trailer from E3 after the jump. Enjoy it because if this lawsuit goes very far, It may be all you ever get to see.
