It’s been a busy week folks, as you can see by the delay in this recap. Because of that, there will be no Arrow recap this week. Everything should be back to normal next week.
A Navy wedding is destroyed by spiked champagne. The victims look like they’ve been attacked by the obelisk. The men involved tell Bakshi that there were 8 deaths, but the others survived. Bakshi tells them Whitehall will not be pleased with these results.
Skye is becoming more combative with Coulson, trying to figure out what is wrong with him. He threatens her job and she reluctantly backs down.
Raina goes to Skye’s father, begging him to give her the obelisk. He is surprised that she is so scared of Whitehall, and urges her to beg Whitehall for mercy instead. He won’t give up the obelisk until he has Skye.
Simmons and her boss have been added to a team trying to reverse engineer the obelisk. The formula is not right yet, and Simmons suggests that they need some of the metal from the obelisk itself in order to get it right.
Back on the plane, Fitz off-handedly tells “Simmons” that she is not real. She feels this is real progress, and now that Fitz has some real friends, he doesn’t need her anymore.
Skye is still trying to figure out the alien writing. She goes down to talk to Ward, but all he wants is to talk about her father. He tells Skye that Raina knows her father, and that he is looking for her. Skye feigns disinterest and asks about the alien writing again.
He tells her that Garrett was carving alien script too, and couldn’t stop. He thinks that whatever took Garrett’s place was not meant to survive. It started right after he received the GH injection
Raina is following Simmons, and sees her leaving a secret note for Shield. Meanwhile Skye confronts Coulson again about his condition. He finally tells her what is going on, noting that Skye received the GH injection as well, and she doesn’t have the same symptoms. But he doesn’t know if that’s good or bad.
He waited to tell her so he could see what her unbiased reaction to the GH was. She didn’t have the reaction, maybe because the DNA was already in her. Skye asks “Like, I’m an alien?”, to which Coulson replies “It’s a theory”.
Raina calls Coulson and wants to meet with him regarding an urgent matter. Back at Hydra headquarters, a red alert has been sounded. There is a mole in Hydra that is sending S.H.I.E.L.D. messages, and no one leaves until they are found. Looks like Simmons’ goose is cooked.
Hydra agent Bobbi Morse interrogates Simmons, but she pledges her allegiance to Hydra. They find evidence in her boss’ desk. Did Simmons set him up? Morse confronts Simmons later and tells her she still thinks she’s involved somehow. She warns Simmons that Hydra is everywhere.
Raina meets with Coulson at a fancy restaurant, and Hunter, Skye, and May are hiding out as backup. Raina tells Coulson that she needs Skye. Skye needs to meet her dad, she was taken from him against her will. When Coulson refuses, Raina tries to blackmail Coulson with a photo of Simmons sending a message to S.H.I.E.L.D.
She sets a timer so the photo will be emailed to everyone at Hydra in two minutes. Coulson knows he has Raina where he wants her, so he just lets the timer expire. Raina begs Coulson for help, but he refuses.
Now that everyone at Hydra has seen the photo of Simmons, Morse and other security chase after her. In a shocking turn of events, Morse beats up the security guards, revealing that she is actually a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. They head up to the roof and jump off, right onto the cloaked plane.
Before Coulson lets Raina go, they get the address where Skye’s dad is staying. They also tag her so she will eventually lead them right to Whitehall. Skye has disappeared, as she is going to the address to look for her dad.
She gets to the building, but he is gone. Coulson arrives a short time later, and tells her that they’ll find him. It turns out her dad is in a car outside the building watching security footage of Skye inside. Skye and Coulson find the bodies of two men that Skye’s dad killed.
Both the precision of a scalpel and violent rage were used to commit the murders. This is a call back to earlier in the episode when Raina was telling him to keep calm. He must have a Hulk like rage on the inside.
Skye can’t believe that her father is a monster. He hears this on the security footage and smashes his iPad and drives away. He later meets with Whitehall and Bakshi, presenting them with the obelisk. They have a common enemy in Director Coulson, and he wants to teach them how to survive the obelisk. On his plant they call the obelisk a diviner. He wants to team up to kill Coulson, “along with, you know, everyone else”.
Bobbi is joining the team, and it turns out she is the oft talked about ex-wife of Hunter. So this should be fun? Simmons and Fitz reunite, and Fitz asks her if it’s really her. It’s really quite awkward.
All Skye cares about is stopping her dad, but Coulson has to be completely honest with her going forward. Coulson agrees, and shows her the carvings on the wall. She thinks the carvings are a map.
