It’s been a busy week folks, as you can see by the delay in this recap. Because of that, there will be no Arrow recap this week. Everything should be back to normal next week.
A Navy wedding is destroyed by spiked champagne. The victims look like they’ve been attacked by the obelisk. The men involved tell Bakshi that there were 8 deaths, but the others survived. Bakshi tells them Whitehall will not be pleased with these results.
Skye is becoming more combative with Coulson, trying to figure out what is wrong with him. He threatens her job and she reluctantly backs down.
Raina goes to Skye’s father, begging him to give her the obelisk. He is surprised that she is so scared of Whitehall, and urges her to beg Whitehall for mercy instead. He won’t give up the obelisk until he has Skye.
Simmons and her boss have been added to a team trying to reverse engineer the obelisk. The formula is not right yet, and Simmons suggests that they need some of the metal from the obelisk itself in order to get it right.

Dr. Whitehall is using a unique method of brainwashing to try and turn “Agent 33” from S.H.I.E.L.D. to Hydra. It is part of a Hydra talent grab, which is very concerning to Coulson, as these are viable S.H.I.E.L.D. options that are being taken away.
Agent Simmons, after leaving S.H.I.E.L.D., is now working for Hydra. Her boss needs her to date work on a project, even though she isn’t finished yet. She sees a photo in his folder, realizing it’s Donnie Gill.
Gill is hiding out in Morocco, and now has the ability to freeze things with his hands (or even just by concentrating hard enough). Gill takes out a waiter, as well as two Hydra agents, finding out that he was to be delivered to Maribel del Mar.
Simmons arrives home to find Coulson in her apartment. Surprise! Simmons was working as a spy within Hydra the whole time. So I guess she didn’t abandon Fitz in his time of need and join the enemy after all. Didn’t take long for them to spoil that for us.
Hydra wants Gill so they can use him as a weapon. Ward tells Skye that Hydra will convince or capture Gill, and if they can’t do either, they will kill him. A gifted that refuses Hydra is seen as a liability.

Back in Austria, in 1945, a group on Nazis are cleaning all of the valuables out of a building. One item in particular, a shiny metal object of some sort, is of specific interest to the Nazi general. Apparently those who touched it have turned to ashy stone and died.
Before it can be packed away, a group called the Strategic Scientific Reserve attacks the Nazis and takes the relic, vowing to keep it hidden forever. They claim that this is the last HYDRA site, and their work is done. Old school S.H.I.E.L.D. agents I guess. They box up the relic (SSR 084).
Back to current times, a rogue S.H.I.E.L.D. agent is trying to sell SSR Relic 084 to the “highest bidder”. All he has is a photo of it, but swears to know the location of it. It is level 10 classified so he know it’s something good.
Before the deal can go down, a man swoops in and steals the information. He kills the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent , and is struck with several bullets, but to no effect. It is revealed that the potential buyers of the 084 are in fact new members of Coulson’s team. May, Skye, and Trip help save the new members. In a meeting with Coulson, May reveals to us that the new team members are just mercenaries motivated by money. But Coulson is fine with that so long as May can trust them.

For the first time in the series, we get a chance to see inside the mysterious “Academy”, where S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are trained. A device that contains technology that both Fitz and Simmons helped develop has been used to turn the swimming pool into ice. Two students were almost trapped.
Fitz and Simmons are brought in to help investigate, as well as to speak to the student body. Apparently Fitz and Simmons are the brightest, most popular students ever to graduate from the science department of the academy. Ward (who attended the operations campus) and Skye will help with the investigation as well.
During Fitz and Simmons’ speech, Donny Gill is almost turned to ice by the same device that was found in the pool. He also happened to be at the pool when the first attack happened. Agent Weaver (of the academy) is going to interview the top 10% of the student body, as they are the only ones smart enough to develop such a weapon. Ward wants Fitz to hang out with Donny, thinking perhaps that Donny is attacking himself to get kicked out of the academy.
One name that came up during their investigation is Allie Hannigan (not the band camp girl), a student looking to be assigned to the sandbox. Apparently she is number two on the list behind Donny. Ward questions her, only to find that Donny and Seth (one of the pool attack victims) had been talking about Fitz’ visit for weeks, even though S.H.I.E.L.D. only found out about the attack a few days earlier.

Shield captures an alien artifact dealer, Vanchat, thinking he may know where Centipede is holding Coulson, as the type of artifact he was trying to fence is the same used by Centipede. While Director Hand is debriefing the team, an alert comes up about a breach in the system. Skye is trying to find the money trail from Vanchat to Centipede.
Hand wants Skye thrown off the plane, and May agrees that Skye is of no value to them on the plane. Everyone watching (but not Ward and Skye) realize this is a ploy to get her off the plane so she can have free reign to investigate as she pleases. Ward and Fitz/Simmons allow Skye to escape before her debriefing.
Skye still has her scrambler bracelet on, so she is still unable to access any type of internet connection. She reads an article in a magazine about a local billionaire (Lloyd Rathman) who is under investigation and decides she can get him to help her. It made very little sense watching, and makes maybe even less sense now.
She manages to hang out at his office building until he arrives, and steals his car without any of the valets noticing. However, she has the bracelet, so she still can’t even use the GPS in his card. A well-placed advertisement for Onstar gives her the idea to crash the car and tell the Onstar representative to tow the car to “her house.”

On this week’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. three super soldiers break into a prison and help a man escape. S.H.I.E.L.D. identifies him as Edison Poe, a former US military man. Because of the inclusion of these super soldiers, Coulson is bringing in Mike Peterson to help in the case.
Skye is still trying to find the agent that dropped her off at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters as a baby. Coulson tells her that May is looking into some of the more classified documents. This is a lie, as Coulson does not want Skye to know the truth about her parents.
Peterson is happy to help S.H.I.E.L.D. as he is trying to be a better person and do some good. Coulson tells him that everyone deserves a second chance, but he will not get a third chance.
The team is able to identify one of the super soldiers as Brian Heyward. They find that his sister is a teacher in Ohio. Coulson and Ward go to pay her a visit. Ward pretends to be a member of the gaming commission claiming that Brian has won the lottery. His sister is immediately suspicious and calls Brian, allowing S.H.I.E.L.D. to track him to Oakland, California.
While driving, Coulson reveals to Ward that he has a lost love that moved on when everyone thought he was dead. Ward mentions the option of dating within S.H.I.E.L.D. and Coulson says that’s an even worse idea.

The team is called in to investigate a mysterious death of Boy Scout leader on a camping trip in the woods. The man is hovering in mid-air due to some kind of electro magnetic activity. There is also what appears to be an entry wound of some sort on his forehead.
While investigating this case, another man dies in a similar fashion on his farm. He is in the barn, floating, and it looks like he was trying to get away from someone. The team is under the impression that there is a murderer on the loose with some kind of never before seen electro-magnetic super weapon.
The investigation leads to a firehouse, where Coulson take note of a very nervous looking man. When Coulson interviews him, he finds out that the two men who died were part of a fire crew that helped out after the alien invasion. They had taken one of the alien’s helmets as a souvenir, and had recently cleaned it.
Cleaning the helmet released some kind of alien virus, and the three firefighters who cleaned it ended up infected. Two of them are already dead, and the third man, Tony Diaz, is not going to last much longer.
Coulson tells Diaz how he died once, and he knows it was for longer than 8 seconds. He tells Diaz it’s beautiful. Diaz’ electro-magnetic field is rising, and he tells Coulson to leave.

A street corner magician displays his power of creating fire, when a woman (Raina) catches his eye. He invites her back to his place, where two men appear in HAZMAT suits and kidnap him.
The man is named Chan Ho Yin, and is on a S.H.I.E.L.D. watch list due to his moderate pyrokinetic abilities. In researching how Yin was discovered, it appears that a leak from Rising Tide made it’s way into the wrong hands.
Skye is immediately under suspicion, but she offers to track the hacker and prove it wasn’t her. Her tracking leads the team to Miles Landon, an experienced hacker who managed to get access to the Kremlin.
Yin startles awake, to find Raina standing over him. He thinks she works for S.H.I.E.L.D., but she assures him she does not. She wants to help him nurture his gift and turn him into a somebody. S.H.I.E.L.D. wanted him to hide his gift, and be a nobody. She gives him the codename “Scorch”, and insists that they just want to test and grow his ability. He somewhat reluctantly agrees, but is more than intrigued by the idea of being known for something.

This episode should have been titled ‘Treachery Afoot.’ One twist that I should have seen coming from a mile away, and another that was a good little feeder for a secondary storyline.
S.H.I.E.L.D.’s plane suffers an explosion, and Coulson is hanging on for dear life inside the plane. Flashback to 19 hours earlier, when the team is boarding the plane for a mission to Peru. They are responding to a 0-8-4, which is code for an unidentified object.
Skye will be joining the team as a consultant, even though Ward has some reservations about it. Skye asks Coulson what’s so important about an unknown object. Coulson tells her the last one was a giant hammer.
The agents arrive at an Incan Archaeological site, where they find some kind of metallic bomb looking object stuck to the wall. It is emitting energy. Ward and May are confronted outside the site by the Military Police, who happens to be head up by one of Coulson’s former partners, Camilla Reyes.
