SDCC11 Interview: Katee Sackhoff Talks ‘Batman: Year One’, New Riddick Film, More

The term “geek girl” gets thrown around a lot these days. Some of it referrs to those girls who eat, sleep, and breathe all-things geeky, and also to those who’ve developed the geek credibility to earn such a title.

Katee Sackhoff pretty much qualifies for both of those, having played Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica, which is more than enough to put her on the top of any male fan’s “goddess” list at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Well it looks like things are getting even better for Sackhoff, as she’s also voicing Detective Sarah Essen, the tough cop who works with Commissioner Gordon back when he was a young punk. Sure Sackhoff carries her tough demeanor over to this role, but she also shows a bit of a softer side, as well.

Not only has Sackhoff worked in both the DC Universe as well as the BSG universe, but it seems that she’ll also be working in the world of Riddick in the upcoming new sequel to the franchise.

She was a bit tightlipped about the role, but we managed to get some words out of her regarding her new projects. Take a look at the interview below and be sure to grab Batman: Year One on DVD and Blu-ray on October 18th.

SDCC11: Jason Isaacs, Howard Gordon and Kyle Killen Talk ‘Awake’

TV is very popular during Comic-Con in San Diego. So much so that most of the major TV networks represent and bring their shows down to the event to give fans a chance to see and get excited for new and returing programs.

One new show trying to take advantage of the captive audience during the Con is NBC’s Awake. The show, which stars Jason Isaacs, centers on police detective Michael Britten (Isaacs) who regains consciousness following a car accident involving his wife Hannah (Laura Allen) and his son Rex (Dylan Minnette).

Michael moves back and forth between two realities: in one, Rex survived while Hannah is dead; in the other, Hannah survived but Rex did not. Trying to keep both his loved ones alive, Michael starts living a “double life,” moving back and forth between the two realities, dealing with different personal conflicts and police partners.

To help you get ready for the show, we’ve got two videos. One features star Jason Isaacs, who explains what attracted him to the show and concept. The second features Executive Producers Kyle Killen and Howard Gordon who discuss the show and it’s upcoming season.

Click through to check out both the videos. Awake premieres on NBC in the Fall.

SDCC11: Rey Mysterio Talks About the WWE Championship, The Miz & Comic-Con

WWE had an eventful first day at this year’s Comic-Con International. During their panel, WWE Champion CM Punk made a surprise appearance during the Mattel panel where the new head of the WWE, whom CM Punk referred to as a doofus during his already infamous shoot promo on Vince McMahon four weeks ago on Raw, was discussing the latest WWE toy line.

On the show floor, fans were treated to WWE Hall of Famer and legend, the Hitman Bret Hart and San Diego’s own Rey Mysterio doing an autograph signing at the Mattel booth. It has been a busy past week for Rey as on Monday night he defeated two men in order to advance in a championship tournament for the WWE Championship which Vince McMahon said he did not recognize CM Punk as champion as he was no longer a part of the company.

This upcoming Monday, the 619’s own biggest little man plans to take on the Real World alumni turned professional wrestler, the Miz. Both Rey and Miz have held a number of titles in WWE, including world championships, so the match looks to be something fans can really get behind on Monday night.

During our interview, Rey also mentions to us that this is actually his first ever Comic Con despite being a San Diego resident and how he has brought his kids to the show with him.

Take a look below at our interview with WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio below and stick to the Flickcast for more from the floor of San Diego Comic Con where way just might get a word tomorrow with WWE Divas Champion Kelly Kelly.

New Trailer for ‘Assassination Games’ with Jean-Claude Van Damme

From the studio that brought you The Squid and the Whale and There Be Dragons (which you may not have heard of, but which is really fun to say in a pirate voice) comes Assassination Games.

Written by Aaron Rahsaan Thomas (Friday Night Lights) and directed by Ernie Barbarash (Hardwired), the film stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as Brazil, a contract killer whose only loyalty is to his pocketbook. Flint (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) is a former assassin who quit the biz after a drug-dealer put his wife in a coma…the same drug dealer who’s just had a contract put on his head. The two enter the game for their own reasons but must form a partnership when they’re pit against criminals and dirty Interpol agents alike.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen JCVD in a straight-up action flick (he’s only 50, after all), and I’m getting a bit of a Hard-Target vibe from this one (though you could toss in nearly any flick of his). It’s nice to see him take on a slightly villainous role for a change, too.

You can check out the trailer after the jump. Assassination Games opens in limited release July 29th.
