TV: Check Out Previews for Fox’s New Fall 2013 Shows

Almost-Human-Urban-1

We often make fun of TV networks and question the wisdom of their decisions. However, deep down we know it must actually be a very difficult job deciding what shows to give the green light to and which to send back to the proverbial drawing board.

So, it is with the utmost respect that we present a bunch of previews for Fox’s new Fall shows coming to your TV later this year. We’ve also included the new schedule so you can get an idea of what shows are coming back, when they’re going to air and what new shows you may want to se your DVR for.

For our money, most of these look like a lot of other shows we’ve already seen before. Again, we know it’s difficult and we know networks are losing audience to the Internet, but maybe more of the same isn’t the answer?

Anyway, we do like the looks of Almost Human, but the rest don’t really do it for us. It’s a good thing Fox has decided to bring back Jack Bauer for more 24. They may need to fill some space in the schedule pretty soon.

Check out the previews, and the entire Fall schedule, after the break.

Comics: Check Out Dark Horse’s Upcoming ‘Conan and the People of the Black Circle’

CONANTPBC #1 FC FNL-Crop

Among fans of sword and sorcery epics and legendary characters, Robert E. Howard’s Conan is a big favorite. His exploits in comics, movies and more have entertained and enthralled millions around the world for many years.

And now, Conan is back again and Dark Horse has him in a new four-part miniseries from Fred Van Lente and Ariel Olivetti. The miniseries is alled Conan and the People of the Black Circle and it takes place a decade later than the current Conan ongoing series.

“I’m thrilled to be working from one of the best Conan stories Howard ever wrote, with the most interesting female lead and one of the Cimmerian’s most compelling adversaries,” stated Van Lente. “But what I’m most excited about is seeing what Ariel Olivetti does with my scripts—he was born to draw Conan, and his painted artwork should attract anyone who doesn’t know anything about Conan or Robert E. Howard but just loves things that are awesome.”

Check out the full cover after the break. Look for Conan and the People of the Black Circle #1 in stores October 16.

TV RECAP: ‘Once Upon a Time’ Episode 222 – ‘And Straight on ‘Til Morning’

JOSH DALLAS, COLIN O'DONOGHUE

It’s the second season home stretch Oncers! Let’s dive in. We begin with our dear Captain Hook asking about the boy they fished out of the water. Smee says he’s fine and also smartly surmises that he was probably dropped by the Shadow. Smee recommends tossing the boy back ASAP. Below decks Hook and Bae have a heart to heart where within a minute the boy has told the Captain that his mother was killed by a pirate and his father abandoned him. Also, he hates magic.

Hook, proving to be more than a pretty face, puts two and two together and asks the boy his name. To my eternal disappointment he truthfully answers “Baelfire” instead of lying by saying “Peter Pan.” Hook is surprised by his good fortune and more than a bit pleased. He even hides the son of his dead lover from the creepy bounty hunters known as the Lost Ones (but really the Lost Boys) who come looking for him, presumably at the Shadow’s bidding. Hook hardly bats an eye when Head Lost Boy tells him the punishment for lying/disobedience is having your shadow riiiiiiipppped from your body. The band of not-so-merry ones departs and Hook’s impressed with Bae’s ability to stay hidden.

Kickstarter Watch: Dog Saucer

Dog Saucer Kickstarter Watch

Usually, our Kickstarter watch has a geeky slant to it. Comics, video games, table top games and even film projects around the geek lifestyle have made their way onto the Kickstarter Watch. But this one is just plain awesomeness.

I am throwing it on the table that if this Kickstarter succeeds, it will make its way right onto the Dude, I Want That website. Everyone travels with their pets in the car with them but there has never been a safe way to have your Doberman sit on your lap while cruising down the highway on your Harley Davidson. That of course is being changed by Greg Hudome at Dog Saucer.

As you see in the cover image and video below, Dog Saucer provides a way for motorcycle owners to transport their dog around in style hooking to the back of their hog. From the looks of it, this is only going to be an option for dogs of a certain size as smaller Chihuahua sized pups can pop right out the back with the way it is currently designed.

There is enough room for a larger dog to turn around and have its head come out of the front or rear of the pod. How safe this is at high speeds is probably debatable but it can’t be much more dangerous than the people who have their little dogs running across their lap, on the wheel or under their feet on the high way.

First Look: ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Coming to ABC

Agents of SHIELD Cover Image Coming Soon

So if there was ever a reason to watch Once Upon a Time last night, we found it with the premiere trailer for the coming series, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. And look who is back… Coulson! The man who started out as an unknown supporting role and quickly drew his own cult following to the point where he became the spark that brought the Avengers together against Loki is headlining this upcoming series. While there are theories about how Coulson beat death (and sorry but this late in the game, you aren’t allowed to call spoiler on me for it), he will be heading up the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

From the look of it, this isn’t going to strictly be a super hero story as Coulson and his team aren’t powered up heroes. They are going to need to rely on their varied skill sets to take on the emerging metahuman threats in their world. From the trailer, you may spy a certain African American character with super strength (who speculation is already pointing to be the Marvel movie continuity first appearance of Luke Cage).

One great aspect to the show can be the introduction of such characters to the movie continuity without forcing too much of the film to revolve around their origin and instead focusing on the team dynamic or maybe even provide Easter eggs for characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy before their theatrical debut.
