For the Love of the Game – Issue #4: The Con-Woman

ForTheLoveOfTheGame

For the past few years, I have gone down to Comic Con and there is a girl I have hooked up with the past few years down there. We get along great and keep in touch throughout the year and like clockwork we end up together in San Diego. I could totally see dating her. The problem is I am from Massachusetts and she lives in San Francisco. – LongDistanceTrouble

Long distance is tricky. The end.

How is that for insight and guidance? You’re welcome. Thank me later.

But seriously, there are so many nuances to every long distance romance that it would be tough to find a stock answer that worked for all scenarios.

Movie Review: ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’

gijoe1

I had a soft spot for 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and I have a soft spot for this, even with its flaws. If you remember the end of the last film (and never mind if you didn’t), Zartan is impersonating the President of the United States in one step of Cobra Commander’s grand plan for world domination.

I think this is supposed to take place right after the last film, but no matter. All you need to know is that the President is not the real President, and the Joes are not aware of it. They’re busy raiding a nuclear arms facility in Pakistan — a mission devised by Zartan (Arnold Vosloo/Jonathan Pryce) to wipe out the Joes when they call for transport after the mission.

All of them, save for Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki), Roadblock (The Rock), and Flint (D.J. Cotrona) are killed. Fortunately Snake Eyes (Ray Park) is away on another mission training with Jinx (Elodie Yung) and quite possibly the worst actor in the entire film, RZA as the aptly named Blind Master.

Movie Review: ‘The Host’

the-host-movie-review

Going into The Host I didn’t know what to expect. The trailer looked promising and I had heard that Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s adult book was better than her vampire romance novels. I cannot judge the book, having never read it, but The Host movie was unspectacular and downright weird.

The plot goes like this: Aliens called “Souls” have invaded Earth and taken over nearly every human being (think Invasion of the Body Snatchers). Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) is captured and a Soul called Wanderer is implanted into her body. Instead of fading away, Melanie’s consciousness holds on and the two fight for control of Melanie’s body.

Eventually Wanderer (now Wanda) helps get Melanie to her loved ones but things get (more) complicated when Wanda starts to have feelings for new guy Ian (Jake Abel) but Melanie is still in love with her boyfriend Jared (Max Irons). In the mean time, main antagonist, the Seeker (an awesomely stone faced/borderline psychotic Diane Kruger) is hunting for the last humans and using Melanie/Wanda to find them.

Can’t Wait Until May 1st for a Galaxy S4? AT&T Pre-Orders Start April 16th

samsung-galaxy-s-4-final

Now that the new hotness from Samsung, in the form of the Galaxy S4, is out of the proverbial bag, the waiting has begun in earnest. And as everyone knows, the waiting is, indeed, the hardest part.

Fortunately, those of you who want to order a Galaxy S4 and don’t mind using AT&T’s network, don’t have to wait quite as long as the rest of the population. That’s right, starting on April 16th, AT&T will be taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S4.

No, you can’t actually buy one and have it in your hands on the 16th, you can only pre-order it. The best part? AT&T has not given an actual release date for the device yet. Huh.

Check This Out: Previews for Tomorrow Night’s New Episode of ‘Grimm’

grimm-season2-promo

I don’t think it’s a secret that many of us here at The Flickcast like the show Grimm. For a long time we were looking for something to fill the void left by the departure of Buffy and Angel, and Grimm has fit the bill nicely since it arrived on our small screens.

Sure, it’s not quite as great as Buffy or Angel (what could be?), but it’s close enough that we’re watching every week and will give the show props whenever we can. With that in mind, we’ve got two previews for Friday’s new episode to share with you today.

In the next episode the world of video gaming comes to life and Portland’s latest killer has an affinity for riddles and video games. Yeah, that’s not gonna end well — for the killer at least, and who knows who else?

Check out both previews after the break. Grimm airs Friday night at 9/8C on NBC.

New Screen Shots Reveal the Beauty of ‘Grand Theft Auto V’

GTA V GDC Screen (2)

With the delay of Grand Theft Auto V until September, it only seems reasonable that Rockstar Games would give us some sort of peek as to the progress of their flagship title. After all, if we are going to wait for it so they can polish it, we want to make sure it is worth our while as gamers, especially before the new consoles launch this fall, right? Rockstar has revealed what may be the most beautiful screens of Los Angeles… I mean Los Santos in a game yet. They even captured the distinct hues of the LA skyline at dusk so well.

The team at Rockstar has shown that there are a lot of new things coming to Grand Theft Auto V in the latest screens. While favorites like a minigun make their way back to GTA for the first time in years, players will be able to discover underwater environments for the first time in Grand Theft Auto V.

As you’ll see in one of the screens below, GTA V will have scuba gear for players to use. While this will undoubtedly be tied to a mission at some point to unlock it, it will be interesting to see how detailed the team gets with the underwater environments throughout the world and if you can carry it with you wherever you go and start exploring some of the larger swimming pools in the Los Santos area.
