‘Doctor Who’s’ Steven Moffat on the Creepy Spoonheads and Mysterious Clara

dw tardis 7

Doctor Who is the most exhaustingly planned show on earth.” So says the show’s lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, in an interview today. Moffat admits that he encounters few surprises when putting together the show that encompasses all of time and space but there are plenty of surprises for the audience.

The second part of season 7 begins with The Bells of Saint John, which will kick off Jenna-Louise Coleman’s run as the Eleventh Doctor’s (Matt Smith) newest companion. Speaking about Coleman, Moffat said Clara brings a wit and unimpressed quality to the TARDIS and the Time Lord that makes the Doctor work harder to be impressive. “They have enough in common and yet enough sharp contrast,” said Moffat, referring both to the Doctor and Clara as well as Smith and Coleman.

Adding to the uniqueness of Clara is that the Doctor has already met two other versions of his new companion. Regarding whether Clara will ever remember or learn about those other encounters, Moffat jokingly replied, “I would know the answer to that question and certainly won’t give it to you.”

CBS Renews A Bunch of Shows Including ‘Elementary’, ‘2 Broke Girls’, ‘Person of Interest’ and More

2_broke_girls_super_bowl_ad

You have to like the way CBS takes care of business. They don’t give out info about what series they are renewing in little bits, they just pretty much let it all out at once. That’s good, especially for those of us who don’t like to wait.

So, with that in mind, the network announced renewals for most of its current series for next season, with two big exceptions: Criminal Minds and Vegas. Criminal Minds is in the middle of cast negotiations so nothing on that yet and Vegas hasn’t done that well in the ratings so CBS is going to try it out on Friday nights later this year.

However, lots of other shows got the green light for a new season. Among the list are Elementary, The Good Wife, 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly, NCIS: LA, Person Of Interest, The Mentalist, Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods. The shows join the list of others already renewed including The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS and CSI.

Also picked up for next season are shows we care less about such as The Amazing Race, Survivor and Undercover Boss, 60 Minutes and 48 Hours. So yeah, that’s a lot of shows.

Glad to see Elementary will be back for another season. That show is starting to grow on us, as are guilty pleasures Hawaii Five-0, NCIS and yes, even 2 Broke Girls — but mostly for Kat Dennings. Hey, can you blame us?

Does Microsoft Need to Announce the Next XBox?

xbox-720

Despite Sony rumors running rampant throughout most of February before the PlayStation 4 announcement, the XBox 360 was still the top selling console of the month. Making it now twenty-six months in a row, the XBox 360 topped both the PlayStation 3 and Wii which came out after it in its generation as well as the latest generation’s entrant, the Wii U. With this momentum, does Microsoft really need to announce the next XBox, and if so, when?

Right now, Microsoft has the benefit of learning from Sony’s lessons that were painfully learned from the PlayStation 3 launch which Sony never fully recovered from. When the PS3 launched a full year later at a higher price point than the XBox 360, even the system’s power and free online network weren’t enough to make up the deficit.

t-mobile-i-phone-5

After so many years, people had pretty much written off T-Mobile as a carrier who offered Apple’s iPhone. It seemed, except for those of you inclined to jailbreak, using an iPhone on T-Mobile’s network was just never going to happen.

That is, until now. Well, not until April 12th to be exact. That’s right T-Mobile fans, the iPhone is coming to a network near you.

Today the company announced that it would start selling the iPhone 5 for $99 on April 12th. You won’t have to sign any long-term contract either. You will, however, have to agree to pay T-Mobile an extra $20 a month over a 20-month period to fully pay off the cost of the device.

You also have the option of paying full price for the device up front and then the extra fee is waived. For more, check out the full press release after the break.

Paul Walker Loves Cars In a New Trailer for ‘Vehicle 19’

paul-walker-vehicle-19

Say what you will about the relative merits of a franchise like Fast and the Furious (we have), but one thing it does have going for it is cool car chases and other vehicle-related action. It also features Paul Walker.

There’s also another movie hitting theaters soon featuring Walker and cars, but it isn’t part of the Fast and Furious franchise. It’s called Vehicle 19.

In it Walker plays a recent parolee who picks up the wrong rental car after a long flight. He soon realizes he’s the target of an entire police force after discovering the tied-up female “passenger” in the trunk.

In addition to Walker, the movie stars Naima McLean, Gys de Villiers, Leyla Haidarian, and Tshepo Maseko. And no, Vin Diesel is nowhere in sight.

Check out the trailer for Vehicle 19 after the break. Look for it to arrive later this year.
