First Ten Episodes of Tom Hanks’ Series ‘Electric City’ Available Online

Yahoo! has released the first ten episodes of Tom Hanks’ new animated, sci-fi series, Electric City. Created by Hanks, the series is accompanied by digital, social, mobile, and gaming media opportunities meant to help immerse and engage viewers. What does that mean exactly? Well, it means games on the site and apps available for mobile devices tie into the series, a 3D map of Electric City is provided, behind-the-scenes videos are available, and much more.

The plot is as follows:

The world as we know it has ended and out of the rubble, the Electric City stands as a symbol of peace and security. Yet under the veneer of order lies a world full of secrets and violence.  Secret police, back-alley dealings, daring chases, and murder all find a home in the “Electric City.” Through the lens of a functioning, yet dystopian metropolis, “Electric City” touches upon relevant global issues and themes including energy consumption, freedom of information, crime and punishment and more.

Lending their voices to this dystopian world are Hanks,  Jeanne Tripplehorn , Holland Taylor , Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Antoon, and more.  The first ten episodes, premiered on July 17, with the remaining episodes being released on July 18 and July 19.  Experience Electric City for yourself at the official website.

SDCC12 XTRA: Hands On with Capcom

At Comic Con, Capcom took the time to let us check out some of their newest titles coming out over the next year. During our time at the Capcom booth we got hands on with Resident Evil 6, the rebooted DMC and the next installment to the Lost Planet franchise.

For Resident Evil 6, we were treated to extended versions of the demo currently available to those who purchased Dragon’s Dogma. In the campaigns we got to play, the action was fast and furious but there was also that intensity often found in Resident Evil games where every bullet needs to count. In addition to deranged people with firearms of their own there were creatures that would assault us with a blast of spikes that would knock you off your feet, leaving you open to further attack.

Also, check out the newest Resident Evil 6 trailer after the jump. Don’t forget that Resident Evil 6 hits the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 2nd, 2012.

Johnny Depp joins Forces With Wes Anderson For The Quirkiest Movie Ever

Wes Anderson is a fantastic filmmaker. He has a such a flare for visuals, and a knack for beautiful symmetry that is unparalleled among working directors today. However, since his style has a very distinct look and feel, he is usually on the fringes of the mainstream.

That was until the master of indy quirk joined forces with the master of main stream quirk for his next film. Deadline is reporting that Anderson just landed a very notable new star:

Johnny Depp will star in The Grand Budapest Hotel, the next film that Wes Anderson wrote and will direct. Anderson is going right back into business with his collaborators on Moonrise Kingdom, which is heading toward a $40 million gross to be among this summer’s art house hits.

It seems a rather obvious choice really, and one that is sure to excite hipsters and Depp-ites the world over. As for the rest of us it is exciting to see Anderson get some possible main stream traction, and for Depp to fall back from the blockbusters into a more interesting role.

It is not often Hollywood provides you with a win-win scenario for the filmmakers and the audience, but that seems to be what we have here.

Stay tuned to The Flickcast for the inevitable announcement of four more Pirates films to offset this arty choice for Depp.

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Adds A Nice Set Of Wings To It’s Cast

While Bucky was and will always be considered the quintessential Captain America sidekick, for the better part of the last half century Cap fought crime with another. Falcon often joined forces with Cap since his return to Marvel comics in the ’60s, and now he is joining him on the big screen.

The Hollywood Reporter has found out that The Falcon likely has been cast for the next Captain America film:

Anthony Mackie is in negotiations to star alongside Chris Evans in the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger… While Marvel would not comment nor divulge character details, it is believed that Mackie will portray the Falcon, one of mainstream comics’ first black superheroes and perhaps its first American one.

Mackie is a great choice for the role, and could likely bring a great new presence to the Captain America sequel that is seemingly going down a rather dark past.

The Winter Solider story line goes in some kind of darker places, especially compared to the last two films we have seen Cap in, so an actor like Mackie in a strong supporting role could really help balance the mood.

Of course this only leads to yet another side hero, like War Machine, who is clamoring in the wings to get in on the Avengers action. Stay tuned to The Flickcast for more Cap 2 details as the film gears up its pre-production for an April, 2014 release.

PIXAR To Move Forward On Another Sequel That Isn’t ‘Incredibles 2’

John Lasseter once said that no sequel would ever be made at PIXAR with out the original director’s involvement or explicit permission. It is that mandate that has caused the biggest no brainer at PIXAR, Incredibles 2, to not happen… yet.

I say yet because it almost seems as if PIXAR is now dead set on returning to all of its former glorys. Deadline is reporting that Finding Nemo Director Andrew Stanton might be returning to the ocean for another Nemo based adventure:

[Deadline has] been hearing for months that he would come aboard to direct the sequel to Disney-based Pixar‘s Finding Nemo, with the idea that Disney would give him another shot behind the camera on a live-action film.

Finding Nemo is my favorite of the PIXAR catalog and often ranks among my top five favorite films of all time. So I like to think I can speak with some authority on the film, and a sequel is kind of baffling to me.

I have immense trust in Andrew Stanton, and I don’t hate the concept of a return to the sea, it is just hard for me to see the scenario for a return. Nemo ends in kind of a perfect place, and given the character growth in the film, another adventure to find Nemo would seem rather cheap.

It is said that Stanton has a concept that Disney loves, so perhaps he cracked that code. Or maybe he is just returning to the Nemo ‘universe’ and has a whole different type of story to tell. We can only wait and see.

But no, we’re not giving you any more pics of Alison Brie and Gillian Jacobs like we did yesterday. Sorry, that was a one time thing. . . Well, we’ll see. We kinda like ’em too.

Check out the vids after the break.

SDCC12: The Flickcast’s Comic Con Photo Gallery

Comic-Con is the Mecca of pop culture. People from every facet of the entertainment industry are there and for good reason. If a movie is going to be huge in 2012, it started at Comic Con 2011 (or even sooner). Even television shows that have nothing to do with “geek culture” can be found at the Con.

But of course at Comic-Con, everyone is able to let out their inner geek. Whether it’s a t-shirt that proudly proclaims “Nerd” to the world or a twenty-five piece, thousand dollar Iron Man costume with light-up chest piece, everyone is able to let their geek flag fly.

The hardest part of Comic-Con is it is impossible to see everything, whether or not you are on the show floor or trying to follow it from home. We hope that this photo gallery can help fill in some of those spots of the Con that you missed out on. Check it out and share it with your friends and hopefully see you there next year.
