The Flickcast – Page 228 of 1030 – Stuff Nerds Love

Dev. Diary: Behind the Scenes with Bruce Campbell on ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’

A man who’s shown his love for both the geek world and Spider-Man is Bruce Campbell. From cameos during the Sam Raimi trilogy to his narrative roles on previous Spider-Man video games, Bruce is probably the second most logical choice for a voice actor to appear in The Amazing Spider-Man game other than Stan Lee himself.

In the Amazing Spider-Man, Bruce voices the Extreme Reporter. The Extreme Reporter serves two roles in the game. First, it gives Spider-Man a friendly antagonist. Unlike Rhino, Puma or Iguana, the Extreme Reporter isn’t looking to killer the friendly wall crawler. He is however looking to capitalize on the newfound fame of the rookie hero.

Secondly, the Extreme Report gives a somewhat logical reason for the existence of the game’s various challenges. While most events in games are story driven, various super hero games have random and often unexplained time trials, races or various other “gamey” occurrences that players just accept. Now, there is a reason behind these random challenges as well as someone players they feel they can gloat to when they defeat them.

Check out the full behind the scenes interview with Bruce Campbell as he talks about the Extreme Reporter, Spider-Man and Stan Lee. The Amazing Spider-Man hits shelves tomorrow for the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3. Stick to The Flickcast for a review too coming soon!

SDCC12 Preview: The Flickcast vs. ‘The Walking Dead’

The world we know is about to end. An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions will sweep the globe causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. The only way to survive is to buy an Evac Pass, track the virus and get out before it is too late.

In a matter of months society will crumble and San Diego will be first of many cities to fall. Only a few will escape. Some won’t even try.

That’s what will be going down at San Diego Comic-Con at Petco Park. Somehow the dead have started walking and our path is blocked (probably by Con traffic) and it looks like our only way out is to run through an infected zone. How else are we going to get to all the good after parties at the Hard Rock?

Well The Flickcast is up for the challenge. If there was a group of geeks that could survive a Comic Con zombie apocalypse it’s The Flickcast team. Granted Matt might trip me to save himself or even use me as a weapon, we guarantee some member of the team will make it through.

Box Office Report: Just Another Ho-Hum $60+ Million, First Place Finish For PIXAR

Many people have been quick to judge PIXAR to be in a slump. Saying that their last film, Cars 2, was horrible and Brave is just mediocre. I have a feeling that sentiment will erode over time, when people look back and see that Mars Needs Moms received reviews more or less the same as Cars 2, people will realize they might have been too quick declare PIXAR’s creative death.

This, however, is a nuts and bolts box office report, so the most important thing is that Brave has brought in PIXAR’s 13th strait number one opening. A staggering string of success that shows no sign of letting up in the near future. Brave‘s $66+ Million opening weekend is pretty par for the course for a PIXAR film.

Coming in second place is Madagascar 3, cooling off from back to back number one weekends with a cool $20 Million. This good hold comes as a bit of a surprise with the seeming direct completion from the new PIXAR film. The sequel seems to have strong enough word of mouth to potentially make this the most successful Madagascar yet.

SDCC12 Preview: New Rules for Weapons on Site

Costumes are a big part of the Comic-Con experience every year in San Diego. Whether or not you decide to wear one to the show, you are inevitably going to be crossing paths, taking pics of or posing with people doing some kind of cosplay. And since this is the world of comic, anime and gaming cosplay, a lot of those costumes revolve around weapons.

Now while you’d think that Comic-Con would be the safest place to be when the zombie bath salt apocalypse breaks out because it is filled with weapon equipped geeks who have spent more hours training for such an event (i.e. watching Night of the Living Dead, reading the Walking Dead and playing Dead Rising), this might not be the case in 2012.

Comic Con International has sent out an updated set of guidelines for costume weaponry this year. Here is the full release from Comic Con International on the specifics:

Check This Out: First Trailer for ‘Boss’ Season Two with Kelsey Grammer

If you recall, Starz was so excited and confident about their series Boss that they ended up giving it a second season before it even premiered. We’re not exactly sure how well that first season did in the ratings, but we enjoyed the show and Kelsey Grammer’s performance and that of a certain Mayor’s aide.

Now, with a second season just around the corner, Starz has released a trailer for it and we, of course, have it for you today. In it, we get reacquainted with Grammer’s powerful and immensely flawed character Mayor Tom Kane and the rest of the players who will make up season two.

Take a look at the trailer after the break. Boss returns to Starz on August 17.

Flipboard Officially Arrives for Android

One of the apps I use the most often on my iPad has finally come to Android. That’s right, for you Android users jealous of your iOS using friends who get to enjoy Flipboard, your time has come.

The very popular social news reader app is now officially available for all Android phones running Android OS version 2.2 or higher. The new Android version is very similar to the one for the iPhone but will also work on tablets of 7 inches or smaller, just in time for Google to announce a new Nexus 7 inch tablet next week.

The app is available in the Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore, Nook Store and Samsung Apps store. Go get it. It’s a great app.

First Trailer for ‘Dredd’ Almost Makes Us Believe

Thoughts of Stallone and his “I am the law!” still echo in our collective brains, which is why it’s a bit difficult to take any new movie about Judge Dredd seriously. However, the folks making the new, rebooted version keep on slugging away and after seeing this first real trailer, we’re starting to believe.

Many of the familiar elements of the Dredd comic and previous film are here, including the stoic Judge Dredd who takes matters into his own hands. But this time things seem a bit more on the serious side and for some reason we find Karl Urban far more credible in the role than that guy who did it previously.

As is often the case, though, a trailer doesn’t really tell the whole story and the proof is in the actual film. Based on this trailer, though, we’re willing to give this one a chance.

Check out the trailer after the jump and see for yourself. Look for Dredd in theaters on September 21.

Movie Review: ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’

I don’t think anyone expects Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter to be good. Or decent. Or anything more than this summer’s Snakes on a Plane. Which, to some degree, it is. I liked Snakes on a Plane because it delivered precisely what the title promised.

The movie opens with the young Lincoln defending a freed slave from being taken back to the South and otherwise cruel treatment at the hand of vicious Jack Barts (Marton Csokas). That night, Barts sneaks into the Lincoln household and promptly kills his mother.

Some years later, Lincoln (Benjamin Walker)’s working as a clerk for Joshua Speed (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Jimmi Simpson), biding his time until he can kill Barts. After a heavy night at the bar, Lincoln makes his move, shooting Barts in the eye and getting quite the surprise when he discovers that Barts is a vampire.
